my 2003 Altis G a/t is even more fuel efficient at 9.5km/L.

My 1995 lancer and my 1999 starex had economy and power mode.
I usually set them at economy mode for city driving and seldom set them to power mode(only at expressways and going up to Baguio or Tagaytay).

I wish Carens has the same feature.
I think it is set to POWER Mode all the time.
See if you can review and change the following:
    1. Driving habbits - refrain from racing and jack rabbit stops.
    2. Tire inflation - look at the tire specs and set your tire pressures at just a tad below the mfgs. max tire pressure recommendation.
    3. Replace your air filter when dirty.

For the benefit of newcomers to this thread who is considering buying the Carens, can we ask for the help of our fellow tsikoteers in posting here the various offers that the different Kia dealers are offering right now, be it in the form of cash discounts, freebies, low installment rates, good trade-in deals, etc?

Given the recent price increase of the Carens, these offers may make or break a deal... Paging bro ace8tan and others! :D

Sa akin sa Kia Marikina, wala!! as in wala!!! Pambili lang ng butong-pakwan ang kasama. Yun bang usual na floor mat, tapos mumurahing seat cover, 3 years LTO registration, saka 1 year na comprehensive insurance.

This is normal with any engine, but more pronounced on some engines. What's happening is your oil is still at the bottom and would take between 5-10 seconds to circulate up to the valves. The result is a ticking noise, which will disappear once oil is fully circulated. If the ticking doesn't disappear within a few seconds, but continues to tick then your valves need to be adjusted to the proper specs. Usually this doesn't happen before 30,000KM, but some do!!!

Its not a rumor, it is a fact. Diesel is subsidized in this country that's why its low but it does not reflect the true price of diesel in the world market. Notice last week diesel was raised by P2/L while unleaded rise P1/L. I have been saying this for some time now thats why I am not a believer of diesel as a long term money saver given the price trends and that diesel engines has such a huge price premium over gas engines, and no even if the riots erupt the government can do nothing cause its the world market that dictates the price of diesel. So if you can't pay up for it then you don't get it. Diesel is the fuel of the mass transport, unfortunately as mentioned wala rin silang magagawa since we don't control the prices of diesel. Its either they resort to alternative fuels (like LPG) or take the blow of the prices on their chin. And no government price controls will never work and has never worked. Remember no one sells at a loss, if oil companies are forced to sell at a loss they won't sell at all making the situation even worse... Just a food for thought, maybe a gas Carens is the better deal then convert it into LPG and its still cheaper than the diesel variant. Although not as torqy as the diesel variant, it gets the job done...

    1. Mas malaki at maluwag
    2. Mas matipid ang CRDI 2.0
    4. May kula pula
    5. Mas magandang pakinggan ang "Carens" sa "Livina"...sosyal ang Carens, ang Livina ay parang katulong...he he he...joke joke lang...

Yes napakasayang talaga, Carens din gusto ng friend ko sana but the cheapest model is price beyond P1M was just asking too much for them. He could already get the top end Livina for less than a P1M tapos leather seats na... So ngayong Livina vs Innova na. Just when the Kia was gaining steam then this happens

Any pros and cons sa makina ng carens?

Even if the price of diesel is jacked up to equal that of unleaded or premium, diesel engined cars still enjoy an advantage when it comes to fuel costs. THis is due to the fact that diesel has more energy per volume than unleaded or premium plus the fact that diesel engines are, by design, inherently more efficient than petrol engines.

    From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diesel#cite_note-TEDB-1 :

    Burning effiency

The density of petroleum diesel is about 0.85 kg/l whereas petrol (gasoline) has a density of about 0.72 kg/l, about 15% less. When burnt, diesel typically releases about 38.6 MJ/l (138700 Btu per US gallon), whereas gasoline releases 34.9 MJ/l (125000 Btu per US gallon), about 11% less.[2] Diesel is generally simpler to refine from petroleum than gasoline

Sure sure its more fuel efficient than gas, but ever thought about the price difference of the engine when you buy the car? (its huge for the Carens its like P205,000 for the EX variants) How about maintenance costs? (diesel engine oil is more expensive than gas engine oil, the parts are expensive too compared to gas engines) How about insurance premiums ? (remember the more expensive a vehicle the higher the insurance) If unleaded and diesel is equal in price its so not worth it anymore. Hey don't get me wrong, the CRDi is a very good engine pero for its price difference I just don't buy the logic of getting one, unless of course you have high mileage which I don't...

I treat my Carens the same way I treat my Altis.
From driving habits, to maintanance, to loading.
Everything equal, my Altis 1.6 G a/t is more fuel efficient than my Carens on a km/L basis.
