2007 Kia Carens [ARCHIVE]

Hi guys! I've been a long time lurker in this thread kasi this car is one of my choices, as I am planning to buy in the next two weeks or so. Nagsesearch din ako sa mga ibang forums regarding this car, especially the known issues. The Kia Carens owners from the US and Canada have a problem of "pulling to the right" when they are driving. same here. mine's at 1075 km. No pulling to the right. Although there is an issue with some steering wheel shaking when i reach about 100 km/h and up. I suspect its a tire balance problem as the shop that changed my steel rims to alloys might have incorrectly balanced the wheel and rims.

Most probably Tire balancing nga problem nyan sir... Pag mali talaga ang pag balance, may shaking at certain speeds, usually around 100-120 km/h

Totoo ito sa ibang bansa, katulad ng US at iba pa, pero wala pang nakakapagsabi dito sa Pinas kung ganito nga ang mangyayari. Kung sakaling meron kang reliable source, paki-mention nga (short of compromising someone's position!) para di natin masabing rumor central. Based na rin sa life-experiences ko, alam kong posibleng mangyari ito, o katunayan nangyayari na batay nga doon sa latest price increase!! Sa ngayon ay sa price ng gasolina kinukuha ang subsidy ng Diesel sa Pinas, kaya nga mas mataas ang presyo ng gasolina kaysa sa Diesel. Pero di na nila puwedeng gawin ito dahil sa tataas ng husto ang presyo ng gasolina at ang tendency siyempre ay ang magtakbuhan ang mga tao sa diesel at tataas ang demand ng diesel. Kaya katulad ng sabi mo, ang pinaka common sense approach ay sa diesel din kunin ang subsidy ng "public sector". Kung magko-convert naman sa LPG/CNG ang marami, tataas ang price ng LPG/CNG dahil sa increased demand at later on e mababale-wala ang pagc-convert sa LPG/CNG....Hay buhay...wala kang puntahan ano?

Pero di naman biglaang mangyayari ito dahil sa matatakot din ang gobyerno natin sa "upheaval" ng masa/middle income families"...Pero ngayong taong ito maraming magaganap na maaring di natin inaasahan....let's hope that they're all good...

Just to continue my point that the gas Carens is the better buy overall especially in the long run unless nga you can justify your mileage; gas prices will be slashed by P1/L and take not its only unleaded that will be slashed however diesel prices still remain as is. So ngayon P4-P5 na lang yung difference nila dalawa. Expect that to narrow even more in the coming months

Just to continue my point that the gas Carens is the better buy overall especially in the long run unless nga you can justify your mileage; gas prices will be slashed by P1/L and take not its only unleaded that will be slashed however diesel prices still remain as is. So ngayon P4-P5 na lang yung difference nila dalawa. Expect that to narrow even more in the coming months

Nabasa ko nga sa diyaryo kanina na ang mga oil companies ay meron pang P16 na hahabulin sa presyo ng diesel para maka-break even sila, kaya ang balak nila ay itaas ang presyo ng diesel ng P2 per week for the next 8 weeks. Kaya kung ang presyo ng diesel ngayon ay P54, sa loob ng 8 weeks ay magiging P70, samantalang ang gasolina ay tataas ng P1.50 lang each week for 8 weeks. Ang gasolina ngayon ay P60 per liter at 1.50 X 8 = P12 ang itataas. Eight weeks from now ang possible na prices ng fuel ay P70 sa diesel, at P72 sa gasolina.....P2 na lang ang price advantage o baka equal na, dahil kailangang humanap ang gobyerno nang sasalo sa mga PUB at PUV, taxi at FX..

Oh well, puwede namang gawing kulahan na lang ang mga Carens natin...he he he...

Kumander is always right! Maganda naman ang volcanic red, same sa kulay ng Carens ko. Congrats!

My Carens has already logged 805 kms (more than a week old lang) and Im still not decided whether I will have the 1000 kms PMS or not. Sabi naman ni sir Ace optional naman yon kasi 5k ang normal na PMS. Well, hanap na naman ako ng mapapasyalan this weekend para magamit ko na naman Carens.

Can we update our list to include which oil company you are gassing up? I use Shell Diesoline. Others are saying Petron's diesel is better than Shell's. Using shell, i consume 9-10km/li pure city driving from QC to Makati.

By the way, just had my Carens gassed up last night... my latest FC (for a CRDi A/T) is 10.2km/l, mixed city & highway. Not that bad. I use Shell Diesoline.

Btw, here's what I noticed with my unit (CRDi LX MT 2008):

Conduction sticker is "EB" (for 2008 model)
The footbrake can be released by hand (hand lever) (2007)
No cargo light (2008)
No keyhole light (2008)
Vinyl sunvisor (2008)
Sliding 3 way switch for cabin/ceiling light (2008)
3 ceiling lights - for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd row (2007?)
No chrome exhaust tip (2008)
No black strap in glove box (2008)
Single toolbox (2008)
Control panel/inst panel is black (2008)
Keyless remote is the one used in 2007 (AVT)
Side view mirror color - Black (2007)
central locking engages when you press the break pedal (after engine starts) - 2007
head unit - jvc 2 din kw-xc406, wma/ mp3 capable - 2007

I use Petron Diesel Max (BGH Rotunda Baguio). I initially got 9.11 kms/L on pure Baguio city driving. Not bad but I hope I could still squeeze some more and at least get 10kms/L.

stock tire is already michelin energy

so far ito palang alam kong nag iba.

also my spare tire is a donut type.

Thanks sir magnusthegreat! One more thing that I observed when I drove the Carens for the first time... and I think this was already posted by someone here before... there does seem to be a disparity between your actual speed and the speed that is reflected in the speedometer...

Even if the speedometer already indicated that I was travelling at a speed of, lets say, 100kph, it looked and felt like I was going at a slower speed. Granted, the Carens is bigger with a bigger engine than what I'm used to so faster speeds won't feel as fast as it would in a smaller car, but it still felt slower relative to the speed that cars around me were going...

Any thoughts on this (if I be so bold as to revive this topic again)?

I think I was the one who opened up this topic about the speedometer / odometer being inaccurate. We observed this as I was driving our carens side by side with our pajero in NLEX. I was driving at 100kph (carens speedometer) and our pajero registered only 90kph. At 120kph (carens speedo), the pajero was at around 109kph. Basically, the difference is around around 10%. We also suspect the odometer is off by 10% as well. I e-mailed the kia website and the kia local people called me about the speedometer issue, asked me some details and never called back. I'm assuming they know about this problem and they're just ignoring it. Otherwise, the carens is really a great vehicle.

I noticed that also.. I've been used to travelling at 120 kph with my lynx at NLex (dun din kasi natin mate test yung mga ganung speed). At that speed, medyo nangagantod na tuhod ko. Pero pansin ko kahit nasa 120 na yung needle sa Carens, parang mabagal pa rin feeling ko parang 90 kph lang. Hindi rin kaya for safety measure na rin ito or was it intentionally designed that way? Or is it because in the US rondo version, naka 17" yung wheels nila as standard?

Aba! pareho tayo ng features! Although I got mine last mid- December 2007. My current FC is at 9.5 kms/L, mixed city & highway driving, using Shell Diesel. I recently switched to Petron during my last full-tank and will observe if FC changes drastically.

Im using Shell diesel, i only got 7km/li...purely city driving...40-50kph lang lagi, cant speed up to 80kph.
