mang mario told me that the one of microfilter's functions in the carnival's a/c system is to prolong the life of the evaporator. during the course of normal operation the evaporator accumulates dust which, if particularly heavy, shortens the evaporator's lifespan. it is not advisable to open the pull out the evaporator frequently just to clean it because "mabubugbog lang ang dashboard" according to mang mario.

diesoline, was able to open the cover, press up lang pala yung dalawang plastic strip located at the bottom, below the 3 circular things. When opened, WALANG microfilter, the space was empty. I can see the blower inside pa nga eh. Your unit is the common rail model di ba, so I would assume gray unit. Yung akin, local unit, wala nga talagang filter yung slot na yun.
Mine is a local unit na petrol engine. Meron sya. When I opened it, akala ko nga wala, kasi nga empty yung space. Tapos pinaandar ko ang a/c. Biglang bumaba yung microfilter dahil sa air pressure. Nakataas pala sya. You have to pull it down after removing the cover..

Guys, I found this article while browsing through the Net, just thought you'd like to know. Buti na lang 2002 model yung sa akin

Siguro dapat din natin itanong sa local dealers natin kung apektado yung units natin.

    Kia Motors recalls 37,358 minivans

Detroit News staff, wire and Bloomberg News reports

WASHINGTON -- Kia Motors America, Inc., is recalling more than 37,000 minivans because of potential damage to a rear wheel bearing that could cause a crash, the company said Wednesday. Kia said a defect might exist on 37,358 Kia Sedona minivans from the 2003-2005 model years equipped with alloy wheels. Company engineers found that moisture can accumulate around the small steel cap that seals the rear hub and bearing assembly on alloy wheels, leading to damage to the wheel bearing. The company said the damage can occur without warning and cause a crash. The company is unaware of any accidents caused by the defect.

    e_chen,

experienced that myself. during that time my brake pads were due for replacement. causing the brake fluid level to run low. i don't know the reason behind this, but when i replaced my brake pads the brake fluid level returned to normal and the warning light dissappeared.

    guys,
bat ang bilis maupod ang brake pads ng carnival/sedona? wala pang 2 years ung sakin palit na agad. hindi naman daliy driven ung samin. matagal ng 3 days. pero kung gamitin naman kasi malalayo ang biyahe.

thanks dacotyan/benchph1. will check the brake fluid and i'm also considering changing the brake pad since in the morning, makapit masyado ang pag-stop then maingay din.

mine lasted just six months (around 15000km). in comparison, my nissan patrol's and frontier's brake pads usually last around 40000km. the service advisors at wheels said kia original pads are really soft and tend to wear out fast, especially so if the carnival/sedona is an a/t. i guess it's because the carnival/sedona is a heavy vehicle -- otep posted once that it is as heavy as an expedition -- kaya overworked mga pads na yun. i just bought replacement pads na lang. the casa charges 2400 for original pads, replacement pads about 700 in fronte. i plan to change pads na lang every other oil change.

thanks diesoline. i guess that's a justifiable reason. no complaints on the braking power naman. it even has a reserve vacuum tank to backup those huge twin piston calipers. i have also noticed that the sedona and the carnival have different brake pads. the carnival uses the same pads as the pregio 3.0, while the sedona has a new design.

Hey guys, my Sedona just underwent a smoke emission test, and I passed with an average rating of 0.46 K. Is that high or low? Note that I haven't had a muffler wash in over a year and all I do for maintenance is the regular PMS. Heck, I can't even find a place in the province that sells biodiesel

kia dealers replaced the J3 diesel engine with the 2.5 gasoline v6 because of its perrenial smoke belching problem. it must be something with our dirty diesel fuel. i just comply with the emission tests by cleaning my exhaust pipes and loading biodiesel the day before i register the carnival.

started the car, then the aircon. Looked at the slot, wala talagang microfilter yung akin, a local sedona. Yung sa akin, June renewal. Emission test result only 0.25, passing is 2.5, with 2% biodiesel blend. In contrast, the Kia KC2700 namin na halos same month nabili, after change oil at 60K, scored 2.0. Sabi ng Kia, they did the right procedure. Their excust for the 2.0, baka daw yung makina ng emission center due for calibration. Galing no? (mag excuse)

    altec,

The KC2700 uses the Pregio engine.

my carnival went through emissions testing yesterday. i was pleasantly surprised by the results.

    opacimeter: 0.00k
    carbon monoxide: 0.01%
    hydrocarbons: 30 ppm

last year when the then 6 month old carnival was tested at the same center, i remember being disappointed to learn that it scored higher in the opacimeter (1.45) than my 5 year old frontier (.95). i started using biodiesel when i first bought bioexceed from seaoil on december 2004. i used it intermittently at a liter for every full tank. to solve my biodiesel supply woes in baguio city, i bought a carbouy of senbel from garyq last march. since then the carnival ran on a senbel B2 blend.

sold na talaga ako sa effectiveness ng biodiesel in reducing emissions! i will post this in the biodiesel thread too.

Hey, congratulations diesoline. It looks like biodiesel really helps to lower the emissions in our diesel engines. Sana makahanap tayo ng supplier na mas malapit sa atin --I use up about a full tank of diesel every four days so it wouldn't be economical for me to go all the way to Quezon City for my supply.

OT: one danger of travelling on the highway daily is that there's a greater probability of my vehicle getting hit by small pebbles and other debris from the cars in front of me. Last Monday, I had to get the windshield of my Sedona replaced for the SECOND TIME because it cracked Buti na lang may stock ngayon yung Wheels QC kaya hindi na ako naghintay ng ilang buwan bago mapalitan. They finished the replacement overnight, and I got my tint upgraded from Platinum to 3M thanks to my insurance company.

Here's a pic of the nasty crack...

diesoline, I think nagkamali ang emission center sa iyo. If your unit is diesel, it is the opacimeter that is the basis. The gas analyzer column which states CO and HC levels apply only to gas engines. Your unit is surely a diesel pero ang reading nila under gas engines.

I verified this by getting our company's smoke emission test results, kasi yun ang pagkaalam ko.

Iba ang cutoff score kung naturally aspirated and turbo diesel engines. Iba rin ang score cutoff for areas above 1000M elevation, which is where you are!!

altec: hmmm... my unit is a crdi diesel, i think i'd have to have a retest and inform the technicians at the same emissions center about that possibility. altec, in your diesel vehicles' emission test results are the readings for the gas analysis portion also zero? i'd assume that if the center is only after the opacimeter reading. i know for a fact that emissions results are greater in higher elevations -- baguio is 1400 meters above sea level -- that was why i was really surprised with my carnival's results. anyways, that retest is really in order.

re the microfilter, i think you can get one from fronte and install it in the slot. try mo lang.

mikey_177: it's really hard to get biodiesel in our part of the country. my carbouy of senbel toppled on the twisties in kennon road and some spilled on my carpet. by the time i reached our place and i checked on the spill, the rubber backing of the carpet has already deformed. nakakaasar! two weeks ago, i bought a 5 gallon wedco gasoline carrier from handyman on sale for P278. i decanted the remaining contents of the senbel carbouy to that. i suggest that you get one if you plan to stock on biodiesel too.

sorry to hear about your windshield. i have incurred cracked and broken windshields a total of six times since i started driving regularly on the mc arthur highway 15 years ago. buti na lang my last hit was about four years ago na. i am keeping my fingers crossed.

suki mo rin pala wheels. my visits there were always pleasant. libre pa kape!

diesoline, yup, for diesel engines, only the opacimeter column has values, the gas analyzer column are all zero. For gas, its the other way around naman. Yung values nakalagay sa certificate mo, kulang. For your reference, the complete data for the opacimeter readings are:

    < dec 31, 2002 nat-2.5, turbo-3.5 1000M elevation 4.5
    >=jan 1, 2003 nat 1.2, tur 2.2, 1000M elevation 3.2

Dates are based on registration date. So any cars registered before dec31 2002, uses the 1st row figures. All cars registered 2003 and onwards, uses the 2nd row figures.

For me, stupid ruling. If they really want to provide the Filipinos with clean air via the clean air act, they shouldn't differentiate between old and new cars. Lumalabas, we are tolerating the old cars to smoke belch and pollute our air. If so, these cars don't belong in our roads in the 1st place!

Thanks, diesoline. I'll let you know if I find a biodiesel source closer to home.

And yes, Wheels has always given me good service ...their insurance claims personnel are quite easy on the eyes too
