the carnival and the sedona are the same. only the sedona is a facelifted version of the carnival. but technically they are similar.

performance is adequate for me. never encountered any major problem yet. one poster here, rodski experienced a problem with his a/t shifter cable. me, my fuel filler door switch got fried and took the dealer 3 months to order it from korea..generally the carnival/sedona is a good vehicle. parts are cheap since its korean-made, realiability is also doing good. mine is reaching 40000 kms while another poster, mikey177 has double that mileage. take note he has a newer unit than mine. so far he hasn't reported any major problem in this thread yet.

most of us has the J3 diesel engine model.

benchph1, I think there's one Flying-V here but I'm not sure. Anyway, that's kind of academic now since my A/T is toast and my next decision is wether to rebuild it (kit only at around P25,000+) or buy a surplus (P45,000 found only one). Fronte quotes brand new unit at around P120k+.

Its been a long time since I last posted here so here it goes.

Last holy week, we went to bicol for a vacation. My super carnival performed execellently. From highway to rough roads the car never ceases to amaze me. We were three cars in the convoy pajero field master and ranger 4x4. It took me only only P 2,480.00 to cover the entre trip (back and forth). Wow what a miser. The two other cars needed to fill up UPON Reaching Bicol (legaspi Albay). samantala yung carnival half tank palang. hehehehehe. We were six in the car and with the new Audiovox dvd ceiling mount player oks na oks ang biyahe. Bye the way I loaded two liters of biodiesel from sea oil. One liter going to bicil and the other going back.

Upon reaching manila on Sunday I left for mariveles bataan on monday for a three week contract job in mariveles. So early in the morning sa nlex 140 to 160kph ang tako ni "olive" (my carnivals nick name because of her color). Sisiw ang nlex. Super talaga si "Olive"!!!!!

Going back home to manila yesterday at around noon when I hit NLEX. After san fernando it was a long stretch of open country that tempted me to further test this car. a sustained run of 150kph for 5 mins. hehehehe. I could have gone more faster but the road was hot and Im was not pretty confident on my tires speed rating. So I set the limit to 3200 rpm. Pretty cool hehehehe. For short sprints after a slowing down for traffic I could easily reach 160kph.

Oh I have a manual tranny and the shifter cable broke becasue of a nasty habit of shifting without using the clutch when approaching traffic situation.

Hello peeps. I'm new here and would like to respectfully join in. I bought a Kia Carnival II 2003 model last September and I am very satisfied with it. I have it serviced in Sto. Tomas regularly. I wonder if Kia Las Pinas is a good alternative. I need to have my blower checked as it doesn't blow as much in the front vents.

Also, (sorry if this concern has come out previously), the car has an input for a mobile phone. It also has a button for the speakerphone. I just can't find a cell phone available here that has an "audio out" connector from the phone that connects to the car.

the microfilter in your aircon system might be clogged by now and it needs replacing. have it replaced at any reputable car aircon shop.

i got my aircon microfilter (mobis original) from fronte in banaue last year. forgot how much i got it for basta it is less than 1K. the microfilter slide is located below the passenger's side window a/c vent. you have to dismantle the glove box in order to gain access to it.

Thanks a lot DacoTyan and Diesoline for those valuable inputs. I will look into the Sony Erricson P910 and find out. The casa quoted 12K for checking and cleaning the aircon system. They say it may go up to 23K depending on the parts that need to be replaced. The back vents are OK naman. It's just the new front and center ones that seem clogged. I'll probably try the shop you mentioned. Cheers.

Just bought a microfilter in Good Gear in Pasay (sister shop of Fronte in Banawe).Since they didn't have someone to replace my old one, I had my mekaniko install it and I told him where to look for it, as per your instructions, Diesoline. Lo and behold..A big TX to you, man, the aircon at 2 bars now blows more strongly than it was at 6 bars. The casa quoted p2020 for the part. I got it for P720. and gave my installer p500. Would have spent a lot more money if not for you bro. Thanks again...

i think that the gen1 carnivals might have that microfilter slot too. the sedonas released locally have that slot but i think those wise guys in columbian motors deemed that us pinoys can get by on dirty cabin air! but in fairness to the columbian guys, they might have thought that the microfilter is just another thing to be added to the regular maintenance regimen and a source of complaints about the a/c system. so, they did not include it in the local version.

i just got to read this tread, so how is the performance of the sedona and carnival. The carnival naabutan ko when i was still managing a dealer. 2 different vehicles same problem. timing chain broke or jumped.

I took my Sedona to Wheels E. Rodriguez for its 80,000-km check-up. I opted to have the timing belt replacement done here instead of Kia Dagupan because I have more confidence in the service of Wheels QC. Anyway, the timing belt replacement was completed about two weeks ago and I've been from QC to Pangasinan and back twice since that time without any problems.

Aside from the timing belt, the casa peeps also replaced several suspension-related parts (shock absorber bushings, power steering high pressure hose, etc), which is the first time any of these have been replaced (except for the bushings) since I got the unit in 2002. Ang pangit kasi ng ibang bahagi ng McArthur Highway; eh araw-araw ko pa naman dinadaanan yun going from Urdaneta to Tarlac City and back.

P.S. My Sedona will turn three years old in June

mikey177: how much did the timing belt replacement cost and how long did it take wheels to do it? did you notice any change in the power characteristics of the engine since you got it back? i always have my maintenance done in wheels e. rodriguez and i think that their service is good.

i drop by urdaneta at least to check on my shop there. is your sedona a white rs? i was driving southbound two weeks ago around 5pm and i saw a white rs in the opposite lane. my ride is black/grey two tone carnival ll with no tint.

The timing belt cost P4,300 (less 10% discount) plus P3,575 for the labor charge (less 10% din).It took the casa 4 days to complete all the repairs and replacements.

If anyone is interested in the list of parts that were replaced, here it is:

- rack & pinion kit (P950)
- power steering pump kit (P550)
- stabilizer link kit (P550 x 2)
- strut bar bushing (P50 x 4)
- front crankshaft oil seal (P200)
- idler bearing A (P1,450)
- idler bearing B (P850)
- tensioner bearing (P3,650)
- caliper kit (P550 x 2)

Sorry diesoline, that wasn't me you spotted in urdaneta. My RS is blue with magic tint. I'm going to try to have my service done at Kia Pampanga next time, to see if their service is any better than Kia Dagupan. Ang layo kasi pag luluwas pa ako ng QC palagi para magpa-service

haven't tried kia dagupan's service even though i pass by it often. after your post about it, i don't think i will ever go there unless it is really urgent.

i have tried amianan motors in rosario, la union upon the recommendation of a korean friend. he recommended it to me for tune-ups because, according to him, they have an engine analyzer for the korean makes. had an oil change there once. the service was quick, more informal than wheels, kaya lang mamatay ka sa lungkot sa planta nila.

i think kia pampanga is a good alternative though. at least there are malls in the vicinity. balitaan mo kami after your service there.

regarding microfilters, how will you know it needs replacement without taking out the glove compartment? Di ba yan pwede linisin like our window type room aircon? Wala bang filter for the rear aircon?

If you are not switching to outside air and generally use the a/c with all the windows closed, you get by without the cabin filter.

when you notice that the force of the air coming out of the front vents are not as strong as it used to be, then the microfilter needs to be checked. you can opt to just vacuum it. but from my experience, the filter progressively gets clogged up faster after every cleaning. six months ago, i replaced the filter. the a/c worked fine since then.

btw: there is a note embossed on the side of the microfilter that says it has to be replaced every 12,000km. my mileage has gone past that figure since i had the new one installed, ok pa rin up to now.
