I was the one who had a problem with the shifter cable. It happened when I was about to leave for a customer visit. When I put it in reverse I felt the shifter becoming loose. So I cancelled my appointment.
So I had it towed and they installed the new cable the following day. Hapon na noong nadala sa signet and they order the cables sa columbia bicutan.
So habang naka down yung carnival pinalinis ko na rin yung intake manifold from "gunk" accumulation. According to kia signet las pinas, first time ang experience nila sa broken shifter cable.
Its a good thing you were close to the Kia dealership in your area, rodski. My unit had to be towed over 25 kilometers, from Carmen to Calasiao.
Anyway, I was already able to talk with Wheels New Manila about my timing belt quandary, and they said they perform the timing belt replacement at the 75,000-km PMS. They don't even do the inspection anymore at 60,000-km. So I guess I'm safe for the next 15,000 kilometers
I can't help but have high mileage on my Sedona, I travel from Urdaneta to Tarlac City almost every day, that's a 60 km trip one way.
Bad trip. Umamin ang kia salesman contact ko the reason why they phased out the 2.9tdi diesel for the sedona is chronic smoke belching issues, that's why they decided to market the v6 gas variant. That was when I brought in my local sedona in for the 4th time complaining of smoke belching. The next hope is to go biodiesel na lang talaga.
Had my rear spoiler of my 03 sedona repainted kasi nag fade ang paint. Claim ko under warranty. Sabi ng Kia, 1 year warranty ang spoiler as it is an attachment. Sabi ko sa kanila, e kasama yan pagbili ko, sila ang nagkabit niyan, and you cant buy the LS without the spoiler! Pinabayad ako na lang ng 900 for labor as a sign of goodwill. Goodwill my ass. Pinapalabas ako pa ang may utang na loob. I paid it na lang coz its not worth fighting them over. I also put biodiesel already and even with the 1st load, maganda ang effect sa smoke belching. Buti na lang di ko tinuloy ang plano ko to buy the Sorrento. Kia is kia. Hintay na lang ako sa Innova.
With summer just around the corner, I am planning to install a DVD player for my Carnival. I am looking at the audiovox 7" (widescreen)dvd player ceiling mount *P35K. It doesn't have a tv tuner and it uses fm modulation for the audio to play in the oem stereo of the van.
Is the 7" display ok for viewing for the 3rd row passengers? The next choice is the 9" (wide screen) dvd player with tv tuner * 65K.
The smoke belching carnival is caused by the accumulation of gunk in the intake manifold. To solve this problem we must attack three areas.
1. Prevent the vaporized oil from entering the intake manifold. The modern turbo charge diesel engine uses PCV to vent the blowby gasses to the intake manifold for reburn. Unfortunately, with the turbo for forced air induction oil gets vaporized and mixes with the pcv gasses. To stop this we must separate the oil from the pcv gasses. There are many ways to do this, an Oil Catch Can (OCC) is the simpliest solution. However, it doesn't do the job well and you have to manually drain the separated oil every now and then. The best solution is to use an oil separator with an auto drain of the separated oil with a return feed to the crankcase.
2. Prevent the soot from accumulating in the intake manifold - The EGR is incorporated in the new generation diesel engine to return a small amount of exhaust gasses to the intake manifold to lower combustion temperature. In so doing soot gets accumulated in the intake manifold. When vaporize oil mixes with this material (soot) you get "gunk". To prevent this one must use a particulate filter. This is currently a standard feature for Euro 4 compliant diesel engine. For our case we can design a dust separator on the egr pipe to capture the soot and thus preventing accumulation.
3. High sulfer diesel fuel - Simply put this type of fuel produces the soot. If we can stop the soot production then we stop smoke belching. Solution use biodiesel.
I am currently designing the oil separator and the dust collector. So for now ang preventive maintenance ko sa smokeless carnival ko ay - regular cleaning of the intake manifold and EGR pipe, use of biodiesel (bioexceed).
Rodski.... since when did you start using bd in your carnival? right now am also planning to use one but still has second thoughts since haven't met pipol who uses bd in their carnival..... mine is 2000 carnival... pahabol pala..... what would be the next immediate action needed after using bd (change that fuel filter ba agad?).... :newbie:
rodski, ceiling mount lang better than in dash. My 03 sedona comes with oem accessory ceiling mount lcd monitor, installed in between 1st and 2nd row seats. 3rd row view is adequate. On the other hand, nakasakay ako sa previa ng brother in law ko, nagpakabit siya ng indash pioneer dvd tuner. I had the opportunity to sit at the 3rd row, ang napakaliiiiiiiiit tingnan from the rear.
e chan, ako on my 3rd load biodiesel na. My mileage is 17K, and have run up around 1K km using 1% biodiesel blend. Noticeable smoke emission reduction. I noticed before biodiesel, hopeless talaga ang engine na ito, even with all those mentioned by rodski on tailpipe washing, tune up, manifold cleaning. Di tumatagal, smoke belcher ulit. And I thought di lang marunong mag maintain yung pinsan ko when he also bought a local carnival, tapos umangal siya na smoke belcher. Yung sa akin, kada smoke belching, I send it to the casa, kasi under warranty pa naman. Wala rin. Until biodiesel was applied. It took around 1 full tank with a 2% initial dose to notice some effect though.
I have been using the bioexceed for the last 5 months. It significantly improve power and lesser smoke.
I suspect that pag bumukas yung egr nahihigop ng engine yung accumulated soot sa EGR pipe. Computer ang nag bubukas ng EGR valve. So sandali lang yung pag-usok.
Na foforce out kasi ng exhaust yung soot. tapos once a month nag out of town so mayroon sustained high speed run to "de carbonize" (160kph hehehe)the engine.
Altec thank you sa tip on the DVD player. Go na ako sa P35K.
tnx
Rodski
Hi guys. Anybody here riding a gas engined sedona? Mine is in a Kia shop. Ang lakas kasi lumaklak ng coolant. Bubuksan daw nila ang engine and replace the engine block liner. I have logged 6,220 km over a period of 5.5 months. . Translation : It looks like this is a known problem sa 2.5 V6 engine nila
I noticed also na may oil ang thread ng spark plugs. Anybody know if this normal? I asked them kasi to replace the spark plug with the bosch 4 tip platinum that I bought. Thats when I noticed na oily yung thread ng old spark plugs ko. What's weird though is yung Khaos na naka-install, tinanong ko kung will not void the warranty, di daw.
BTW, yung 7" overhead LCD monitor, nagrereklamo yung mga matatanda kong pasahero, nahihilo daw sila. Yung mga bata, di naman.
One more question, normal ba sa sedona yung thump ng front suspension?
The V6 2.5 engine ng sedona ay maraming problema. Just check out the www.kia-forums.com.
As for the oil in the spark plug threads masama ang indication nito. Oil is fouling that piston and combustion chamber. So pag baba ng manifold to solve your coolant problem, pa check mo na rin yung mga valve seats at gaskets.
Yung suspension problem noise sa front is solve by tightening the suspension. Ganyan din yung carnival ko nung una. Tapos nung first service ng auto hinigpitan nila. Wala ng thumpping noise. Signet ako nagpapaservice.
Great!. Thanks for the info Rodski. My car should be out by Saturday. Let's see what happens. It's good to be in touch with fellow sedona owners. Thanks again.
rodski, benchph, I checked out the kia forum, and read their thread on the suspension problems under the sedona subforum, sedona front strut thread. I copied the part number 0K52Y34380 rubber strut mounting, and showed it to kia service center casa, kasi nga I also complained of the thumping noise to them a long time ago. In fact, I posted the same complaint here in this thread several pages back (page 8, post#76) but no one here at tsikot replied. Prior to this, Kia only tried to tighten the right front shock/suspension, pero the thumping noise is still there. It's the same thumping noise I heard in my ae92 corolla and the nissan urvan long time ago. I gave the part number to the service technician and told him to look for it in their service manual. When the casa checked it, tru enough, sira na raw, they called it strut bushing. But out of stock. Inorder na nila. BUT its considered wear and tear, so not covered by warranty! I complained to them at around 10K mileage. My sedona is now 18K, but still on the 2nd year of warranty coverage.

ung inorder kong fuel filler door switch, december last year hanggang ngayon wala pa rin...tsk tsk. COLUMBIA MOTORS! HELLO?
