    altec,

I think J3 is the TDIC. Anyway, bumiyahe ka palagi sa highway, mawawala yung smoke belching na yan. Occasionally, I get a little black smoke when I rev the engine up for the first time before the turbo kicks in, but after that there are no noticeable black emissions. Am almost up to 95,000-km on the odometer

Also, my stock Kumho tires also wore out faster in front than at the back, but I also didn't wait for them to wear out too much since I wanted to change them ASAP to something that would give me more peace of mind while driving at highway speeds.

Mikey, I think only diesoline is crdi, yours is the same engine as mine, the 2.9tdic? When you say highway, up to what rpm do you reach and maintain? From what I recall, 100kph is just slightly above 2K rpm, so to really belch out the smoke in my case at 3K rpm, I have to go maybe over 130kph and maintain? Cebu kasi ako Mikey, makitid ang highway dito, mahirap sustain yung ganung speed.

    altec,

Highway cruising speed for me is usually 80-100 kph, which translates to only 2,000 rpm. However, I occasionally reach 3,000 rpm when overtaking slow vehicles in 2nd or 3rd gear. Also, I haven't used biodiesel for over a year owing to the lack of suppliers in Pangasinan. So far, I haven't noticed any degredation in engine performance, and smoke belching is still rare for me even without BD.

I sometimes reach 130 kph on the NLEX, but my heart can't take any higher speeds, so I wouldn't know if my engine would belch smoke if it goes over 130 kph

Anyway, I hope you find a solution to your smoke belching woes.

Does the Sedona CDRi engine have a different designation from the TDIC? I'm sure mine is a TDIC, and my registration papers say the engine is a J3.

You could lock it in 2nd and 3rd gear. Cost more fuel-wise but it'll get you to 3000 rpm without going to fast.

I'm happily eating my words; we're getting the repo carnival park 2 after all. the crdi starex is a very good people mover, but we couldn't resist getting this good unit WITHOUT the burden of a bank loan.

while waiting for the bank to finalize the deal, i just have some questions:

    1. what size of car battery is ideal for the carnival?
    2. would it be better to get a cheaper kind of oil so i can change oil earlier and get rid of any gunk that didn't leave with the inital flushing or go for a good one at once?
    3. is getting a strut bar a good idea (as so kindly offered by totoybato)?
    4. is it supposed to have keyless entry and/or alarm? The key I used looked like a spare and didn't indicate that it did.

I’m planning to get an oil change at a gas station near the warehouse then travel it at night to avoid kotong cops (registration wasn’t renewed). I’m refusing to have my first act of proud ownership be having it towed. Thanks and your inputs are most appreciated.

    1. Get a 3smf or N90 maintenance free battery
    2. Go for the mineral 15w-40 oil. That's fine. Petron is the RevX, Shell is the Rimula or Helix series for diesel engines. Just look at the API rating. The higher the rating, the better. What's weird is that with Shell, I noticed the Helix for diesel is priced cheaper than the Rimula D or X, but the API rating is higher by one level.
    3. Strut bars will stiffen the ride as the downside but the upside is better rolling stability. The Sedona has a tendency to wallow as I mentioned in this thread somewhere at the early part, but this is because of its soft ride.
    4. Kung walang alarm with central locking, pakabit ka na lang. IMO, nowadays, better with than without.

Daco, I revved the engine to 3000rpm to belch out the smoke. When I went uphill, I deliberately kept it in low gear to make it rev hi. Nawala rin ang usok that I normally see. I guess occasional aggressive revving is needed by our engine. It will also help if we clean the air filter every 1000km thereabouts.

my engine is a J3 too. i don't have any problems with smoke belching maybe because i travel the same roads as you do. when the car is near due for an oil change, a puff of black smoke sometimes comes out when i mash the accelerator for a kickdown shift..

the flying v station here is selling bd laced diesel straight from the pumps. they are selling it for 31.40/liter. i made usyoso and learned that they blend 150 liters bd for every 12000 liters diesel. so that makes it a 1.25% blend. pwede na... but i want to have more info on the diesel that flying v stocks.

Congratulations on your choice of car Leolop. Hopefully, if the car was maintained properly, you will have a head-ache free ride. I bought my gray market carnival park II 2003 model from a Korean in September of last year and my faimily and I have not been disappointed with it. I use it as my daily ride to and from Sta Rosa to Makati and it now has 53K+ kms logged. Just maintain it well. I go to Kia Sto Tomas every 5000 km.

no, its the one in ambuklao road here in baguio. btw mikey177, i am about to order 36 liters of chemrez's bioexceed from AMR at 73/liter. 36 liters kasi that's their minimum for delivery. if you are interested, you can pm me the how many liters you want and you can pick up the bd from my shop in magic mall.

medyo oc lang kasi ako with my bd. i derive some pleasure in pouring the stuff in the tank before filling up. i usually fill up 50 to 65 liters at a time kaya swak yung isang liter muna before they pump in the diesel.

tnx pala for recommending the dunlop le mans rv501s. i drove at speed into standing water monday night in ilocos norte and the front end of the carnival just plowed through it without much ado. i just placed an order for another pair para sa rear naman.

diesoline, yung 73/liter is what container? 36 liters minimum for delivery, free? Delivery up to where? Baguio?

Yung sa iyo J3? CRDI sa iyo di ba? Weird naman ng kia, same classification ang crdi at yung tdic.

the price is P73 in liter bottles, 36 pcs. minimum for free delivery in metro manila. but the guy who answered the phone says 24 pcs is ok as long as the delivery point is near cubao. the carboy is P1300 delivered, kahit one unit lang.

i will switch over to liter bottles because decanting from the carboy tends to get tedious over time. imo, the liter bottle's contents might also be in better condition because it has been exposed to less oxidation as opposed to the carboy's.

yup, the engine is also a j3 as indicated in its engine number. the layout in the engine cabin is virtually identical to the tdic's except only for the injection system and the alternator.

altec, re your pm to leolop, where did you have the sedona wired for the amp? i have a couple of unused amps that i want to be installed in the carnival. medyo hesitant lang kc ako because i messed up the electronics before when i diy'ed replacing the horns. as a result, my airbag sensor module was fried and the seatbelt indicator light on the instrument panel is constantly on.

diesoline, paki pm na lang ang contact number and contact person ng amr cubao. I checked with my staff, and our company has used over 600 liters of biodiesel already.

Regarding the amp, I went to the shop where I previously got it. Just paid them to install it for me. The ampli was placed under the driver's seat. Plenty of space there. Then I asked them to provide wires so I can put the sub (placed in a box) either at the rear, or beside the driver seat in between the driver and the right front passenger if in case I need to use the rear for baggage. However, 99% of the time, the sub is at the back. I watched them while installing. Mabusisi, they opened the center console to connect to our original HU, so I don't think its a DIY thing unless you are really an expert with these things.

I asked them that I want to listen to the music with and without the sub, even using our original speakers, wow, iba talaga ang dating. EVEN without the sub at the back, iba ang effect with just the original speakers!

    Hi Altec,

OT lang, do you know where we can source out the Biodiesel here in our beloved Cebu City? TIA

thanks! getting ready for the big day of getting the car from the bank. honestly feel like a kid waiting for christmas, since it's the first car my wife and i bought from our own sweat.

we were able to take another look at it last friday. really can't get over all the bells and whistles it comes with, and to think we already decided to get it before diesoline told me about the ceiling panel with more doohickeys and thingamajigs. (didn't see it first time). a bunch of other prospective buyers were surprised to see my head pop out from the sunroof.

well, i now have my 3sm outlast exceed battery and 20 liter pail of BD from AMR. still, the serious concern was the ******* of black smoke when we pressed down the accelerator to 3k+ rpm. i hope the change oil, exhaust power wash and BD will solve it enough to pass the emission test asap.

    just some quick questions:

    1. is there a compartment somewhere in the back where tools and the jack are placed?

    2. what's the capacity of the gas tank?

    3. is there a downloadable manual somewhere?

Leo, yang 3K rpm na black smoke, sakit talaga ng engine natin. I've surfed the internet and was surprised some postings from europe and australia commenting also at the 3K level umuusok siya. But from what my uncle in law said who imports surplus kias excluding sorrentos but including the carnival, yan daw ang problema sa korea. It's a matter of adjusting the governor lang. From my experience, no matter how much the casa will adjust, uusok ulit. Yung sa akin, pansin ko ngayon, di na mausok like before, after I deliberately revved it up and have been going uphill more frequently. Meron pa ang occasional 1st rev puff of black smoke pero not like before na halos walang tigil. Another cause is clogged air filter. Could be the filter is dirty na rin.

In my local sedona, the tools compartment is on the left side, very near the tailgate, just beside the rear tail light. Fuel capacity is 75 liters.

The manual seems to be generic, meaning whether gas, diesel both TDIC or crdi, pare pareho lang. Makapal yung manual niya na back to back pa, 15mm thick.

Dahil kay Leolop, nagbasa ulit ako sa manual. Surprised ako sa nakita ko. Sino dito naka gas version? Coz on page 5-3, special mention ang gasoline containing alcohol and methanol, na maximum 10% lang ng ethanol, and 0% methanol. Ethanol is known as grain alcohol, while methanol is known as wood alcohol daw.
Vehicle damage or driveability problems may not be covered by the warranty if they result from the use of 1. gasohol containing more than 10% ethanol, 2. gasoline or gasohol containing methanol, 3. leaded fuel or leaded gasohol. BUT, nothing mentioned about diesel.

I know the Kia casa that I send my unit to officially sells bioactive biodiesel, so biodiesel is accepted by kia.

    3. is there a downloadable manual somewhere? i haven't been able to locate one up to now. maybe i could have been using the wrong search phrase. the most promising lead that i got was a russian site that pirates copies of the cd-rom kia carnival II's owners manual.

leolop, replace your air filter too. it only cost me P330 the other week at fronte.

could you have it photocopied it and sent via a courier like air2100? the rate is only around P50 for half kilo. i can reimburse the photocopying and sending cost by depositing in your bank account. the manual's too important not to have.

i'm assuming the 3k rpm smoke problem on my carnival is more serious than standard. i was standing behind the car when my wife pressed the pedal. it's way more than nakakahiya. my socks turned dark gray. need to include air filter on my list.
