Found one seller over olx priced at 625php. Cheaper than Shell Helix Ultra.

Looks like Royal Purple HPS is a real deal, at least based on the seller's description from the olx ad:

Beware of other FULLY SYNTHETIC motor oils, BE IT CHEAP OR SUPER EXPENSIVE. A lot of them are GROUP 3 refined from CRUDE MINERAL OIL. 100% Fully Synthetic is just a marketing term. It does not define the chemical make-up of the oil.

Royal Purple is made from Group 4 PAO and Group 5 ESTER. This is what you call a TRUE SYNTHETIC. No Compromise.
Now I wonder if the oil used at mazda casa are authentic group 4 synthetic oils? Can't tell from the containers they're using inside the service bay. [emoji848]

I'm musing on the idea of buying this RP HPS and bring it over the casa for the next oil change...

Royal Purple is taking a beating on BITOG because of their questionable marketing methods.

I read somewhere that royal plus hps and shell helix ultra can be changed every 15T km per year. That seems very long compared to the recommended oil change interval of skyactiv engines.
OLX. Been using Royal Purple HPS since 2011 to all my cars, diesel and gasoline. So far so good. I think meron na baldwin filter for skyactiv engines, nakita ko sa website ng baldwin pero I dont know if meron seller dito. I only use OEM oil filter.

I read this article that tackled the questionable marketing claims of Royal Purple. It was an old issue, unsure if it is still relevant

AMSOIL vs Royal Purple Motor Oil. Facts & Test Results!

The article also tackled the chemical used in Royal Purple oil. The article may be biased against Royal Purple (which is expected because it's an AMSOIL website):

As you may know, Royal Purple is well known in racing circles. The chemistry they use is something AMSOIL, Inc. chooses not to use. One of their big selling points is extended drain intervals. Some additive chemicals can cause adverse conditions when used for long periods.

Royal Purple uses a different chemistry than most oils. They are one of only a handful of marketers using Molybdenum Disulfide (Moly) in their oil. Moly is a solid material, which is specifically banned by CumminsŪ, due to excessive valve train wear.

Moly is a processed mineral that is similar in appearance to graphite. Moly has good lubricating properties when used either by itself (in dry powder form or as an additive to oil or other lubricants). Particles of the Moly can come out of suspension and agglomerate. This can actually clog oil filters or oil lines and the rest normally settles in the bottom of the oil pan. This seems to be more likely when using extended drain intervals. In 2005, the test we ran on Royal Purple involved their 20W50 Racing oil versus our AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic 20W50 Racing Oil (TRO).
So it seems that the issue will only come up when changing oil on extended/long intervals. If the oil change is done within the recommended interval (6 months or 10Tkm whichever comes first), then I think RP is fine (or probably any authentic synth oil).

I change my oil every 6 months, probably around 5,000km. I average 1,200km or less per month.

I asked them if the local Shell oil change stations will honor Shell oils that are not bought from their branch. No reply yet.

I'll drop by at the shell station near at my place and ask if there's no additional expenses for an oil change service if I bring my own Shell helix oil.

This is perhaps just being really OC. I'm musing on bringing my own Helix oil for my next pms. My M3 is still covered by the yojin free pms.

Hehehe. There's not much damage they can do over three years. Besides a frequent OCI still beats letting a boutique oil ferment in the pan for two years

What area are you in? Last time I checked at the Valle Verde station across Mazda Pasig they didn't have it. They have a Hunter alignment machine though.

4.5 liters ata oil capacity natin. If so we need to buy one gallon and one quart.

3.4K for oil alone? That's about the cost of oil & filter change at dealerships.

I use 5w30 FS oil for my rides and I get them for much less. I used to get the Motorcraft 5w30 FS oil for 400/L but priced increased to 450/L.

I have just used Zic X7 5w30 for my FXT and I get it for around 370/L. I might try the X9 next time, it's priced at 400/L.

Half the price of Shell Helix, that's a good deal. Sir, where do you buy these brands?

Look for Andy's Parts Depot on FB. Support a Tsikoteer

He was my Zic supplier before I got my 3. Thanks for bringing this up.

How about engine and cabin air filters? Should I go genuine as well?

I get the Motorcraft 5w30 FS oil from FordMaz and I would have kept using it if the price didn't increase.

I bought the Zic oil from a seller in QC (Magical Trading in OLX). They offer different viscosity of Zic oil, for gas or diesel engines. You can buy in 1L containers or a gallon (4L). I might try the 5w20 X7 for my Fiesta Ecoboost as it is the recommended viscosity for Ecoboost engines (5w30 is the alternate viscosity).
