    ten45,

Glad you got your window glass replaced right away.

Hindi pa ako nakaranas ng nag-crack na salamin dahil sa init. My Carnival was bathed in my former office's open parking lot every day for 2 years and nothing happened to the glass. Mas posible siguro yung small stone theory, kasi tatlong beses na ako nabasagan ng salamin sa highway dahil sa impact ng mga small stone at high speed I travel on the provincial highway daily, BTW, so the odds of accidents like this happening to me are greater.

    slyfox,

can you tell us the situation why you think wheels is ripping you off?

if you are near edsa/ortigas business district. i can recommend Signet Distributors Mandaluyong. So far they have treated me well during my last few repairs on my carnival. unfortunately wala na si cris, yung kilala kong service advisor. but still the people in there know me well. malapit lang kasi sa megamall/shangrila ito kaya convenient. its just an mrt ride away.

Has anyone experienced their tires going oblong? i thought it was just the poor quality of the stock hankooks. but it also happened on two of my dunlop rv501's. i believe the tires are still 70-60% thread life, but as of now, sobrang oblong na. to the point na papalitan mo na. Maybe something is wrong with one or two of our canival's underchassis component, reason behind my tires going oblong prematurely.

im now trying goodyear forteras. nagdownsize lang ako from 215 to 205 kasi wala ng choice during that time. but still, the forteras performed well during our batangas trip. a lot of paved road and a few rough road driving. just a bit of difference with rv501 in terms of grip.

I also frequented Signet EDSA-Mandaluyong when I lived nearby. Try looking for Bong (Service advisor) if he's still there, he'll take good care of your carnival. I go to Rapide alabang now since I moved to Daang-hari in Bacoor.

The Hankook tires are really prone to go oblong, aside from bursting which happened twice to me. Once in SLEX and once in NCLEX, hirap talagang magpalit ng gulong ng carnival Another brand that went oblong in my carnival was Pirelli. I thought I got a bargain at PhP 2,200 but it only lasted for two weeks.

I'm now sticking to Yokohama Geolanders, to hell with the imported tires.

thanks for the tips guys. our carnival is for family use and not my personal ride. that means i'm not the one who maintains it. upon checking the records recently i noticed that we've amassed almost 80k worth of repairs from wheels erod. most surprising was the change in timing chain with just over 30Tkms in the odo. yun daw yung maingay sabi ng service advisor. our driver also said that everytime he has change oil they find something to fix and after that's fixed he brings it back the next day coz something else got broken (like the misallignment of AC louvres, etc.) so when i personally went to talk to the advisor he tells me na sirain talaga yang carnival park II kasi imported. wtf?! not a very wise comment from a kia person. anyways im looking for a shop where they give a complete diagnosis of what needs to be fixed once and for all.

oh by the way what's the usual inflation of your tires? our first set did get oblong. was thinking it was wear and tear and because it was under-inflated. thanks again for the help!

    Slyfox,

I too, experienced terrible service at that e. rod. Kia service center. They find all sorts of things to replace and fix over and above what you actually came for. My worst experience was having my engine overhauled (under warranty) at Kia e.rod. They did a terrible job. That service center is fond of replacing parts way ahead of schedule like replacing my fan belt after only 5K kms! For maintenace and mechanical repairs, I go to a shop called Baron is near the corner of Quezon Avenue and West Avenue. The shop is near a former restaurant called Alps. For electrical repairs I go to Wizard along Tomas Morato. It is important though that you try to understand what is wrong with the vehicle. This way you can narrow down or ask the mechanic the right questions. Otherwise a shop might fix your vehicle wholesale when you all that was needed was some minor adjustment.
I have not found a shop that is able to demonstrate good service on all aspects of car repair but have found shops that CLAIM to be good on everything. The Kia Delta in Cubao is one such example. Instead I go to specialists as the need arises.

On the comment "sirain talaga yang carnival park II kasi imported." I think generally, Kia parts and craftsmanship have some more to go compared to Japanese cars. I also find the parts expensive.

    salonika,

thnx for the reply. first thing that came into mind was imported kasi ang dunlop rv501's at baka hindi suited sa philippine tropical climate. let us see how my (supposedly tropically suited) new forteras will do.
nagtaka lang kasi ako sa rv501's ni mikey177, as of now ok pa rin. or maybe they need frequent using? twice a week lang kasi magamit ang carnival pang coding ni ko at ni erpats, at occasional family trips.

i've just discovered na wala palang built-in microfilter ang gen1 carnival. need to go a few pages back for the details

my opinion about the parkII carnival, wheels is just trying to make you feel guilty because they didn't buy your unit from them, being a gray market unit. another thing, being a top of the line model with all the bells and whistles, arguably, there are really a lot of things to go wrong. kahit nga yung local spec LS namin medyo sumasakit na ang ulo ko

let me tell you my experience or was it what they experienced when the guys at kia marikina told me na "sirain ang carnival, kasi korean made". well, i e-mailed the technical support * kia motors korea, forwarded it to apollo rosal, the head technical service manager of columbian motors, which then called me and asked for the guys that made that remark. last thing i know, those guys were sent at the plant to have a brand familiarization seminar. or was it a "spanking" from the big bosses in columbian?

    ngapala,

check this out guys, new website ng new carnival

I have posted earlier the prices of orig cooling coil/evaporator and drier/reciever for everybodies reference if ever you need to replace it.

Uy, hindi na ako naka-RV501. I switched to Dunlop EC201 tires a year or so ago after I wore out my RV501s. I couldn't find a vendor for the 501s here in Urdaneta. Anyway, neither tire model went oblong in my case, but they do wear out fast since I drive long-distance often.

Maybe I'll try Yokohama tires next time I need a tire change. Magkano ba yung Geolander tires?

I talked to my suki dunlop tire supplier. I have tried their sp70, now their ec201 just like mikey. Didnt go for the 501 coz I didnt want directional tread designs. According to him, they do have isolated incidents, but nothing extraordinary to claim that there is a noticeable design defect to have caused the oblong conditions. Some of the things that may cause oblong is driving into those cats eyes on the road. These may cause the steel belts to break and may cause the tires to deform. Another is tires that have undergone vulcanizing. Tires that have punctures, will normally mean penetrating through the steel belts. Water may penetrate and rust the steel belts, causing them to break later on. Under inflation does not cause oblong, as under inflation will cause the sidewalls to weaken rather than the tread itself. Another possibility is when the tire has gone beyond the recommended expiration date. Of course, the possibility that the oblong effect is really caused by tread failure attributed to the tire itself- an actual tire defect.

My ride is now on 3 pcs ec201 plus one original hankook. The ec201 has a max cold psi of 44, as compared to the hankook max psi of 35. I keep my tires at 35 as discussed several several pages back. Never did bring it up beyond 35 with the ec201, but havent gone down to 32 in a while.

good morning peeps. i dont have much time to read the previous posts so i dont know if similar problems have been experienced on your 1st generation carnival or any carnival/sedona.

this problem used to occur when the engine hasnt reached its normal operating temp pero ngayon, kahit fully warmed up na, it continually occurs kaya medyo delikado na.

i noticed that the battery light and handbrake light sa dash lights up together when i turn the aircon on. aside from this, steering ko ang tigas parang nawawala ang power steering nya and my brakes are very hard. parang nag prepreno ka na patay ang makina o nawawalan ng vacuum. may brake pa rin pero ang tigas so hindi sya kapit na kapit. if i turn my aircon off, nawawala ang handbrake and battery lights at ok ang steering pero matigas pa rin ang brakes.

before, akala ko kulang lang sa warm up kaya nagiging low rpm or low idle sya kaya the 2 lights turn on at tumitigas ang power steering. pero iba na kasi ngayon. muntik ako naaksidente this morning coz i was travelling downhill na around 80kph ang takbo ko. aircon was on and everything seemed ok hanggang sa biglang tumigas ang steering ang the 2 lights came on pagliko ko. nag under steer ako at muntik na lumabas sa kalye and when i stepped on the brakes, ang tigas at halos hindi kumakapit. good thing i had presence of mind so i downshifted it to a lower gear kahit A/T sya, stepped the brakes harder and turned the steering wheel para hindi maaksidente.

natakot ako dun ah. i made it to my office in one piece naman. can someone help me what is wrong with my ride? thanks.

Bisoy, had those symptoms in my Canival Park II. The problem was traced to the crankshft pulley, which was slipping. The pulley is constructed in 2 parts with a laminated rubber damper between the inner and outer part. When this rubber damper de-laminates it causes slipping and resulted in the problems you describe.

i just want to update you guys on my van.... my trusted mechanic says fan belt lang daw ang problema coz it is slipping. went around the shops yesterday and there arent any belts available for my van except sa casa. casa belts cost 2k+. i called my suking spare parts shop in manila and he charged me P400 lang. he mailed it yesterday and i got it just this lunch. hopefully ma replace this pm at makuha ko na rin. i hope everything will be ok. by the way, i am from mindanao.

kung ito lang ang problema, i think we should carry this belt always since this belt drives the power steering, alternator, and water pump pala. this is a very impotant belt. i suggest checking yours asap or change every other oil change or so. mura lang to kaysa maputulan sa kalye.

update ko kayo by tom. thanks.

Yup, I carry spare fan belts and even a timing belt for the Sedona since it's hard to find these items in provincial auto supply stores.

OT: I also carry a spare drive belt in my 2006 Starex since this single belt connects everything in the van --alternator, aircon compressor, radiator fan, etc.

the problem still persisted. i followed Daco Tyan's advise...... guess what we found out....

to temporarily remedy this, i am having it brought to the machine shop today. we might make/convert it to an all steel pulley. lalagyan ng spacer or something tapos ipapa full weld ko. any disadvantage to this?

    thanks
