diesoline -- was able to set the radio stations... Thanks!!!

Just got back from Cruven, was actually the first client to arrive because I was expecting heavy traffic on my way there, which happened to be none. Anyway, I had the Carnival checked for the kalampag on the left front wheel.... turned out to be worn out bushings on the rack and pinion.... only hitch was that the replacements were very hard to find. No question with there work, very impressive! And there crude way of wheel alignment using a string did the job in centering my steering wheel where the computer generated ones failed to do.

I even showed Claro the casa's recommmendations and he advised not to go thru most of them especially the expensive ones. And he also mentioned diesoline's story.

Just had my 115,000-km change oil today, and while my Sedona was up in the air, I noticed this part of the exhaust system that I don't know about (see blue arrow in photo):

Eto ba yung sinasabi ninyo na catalytic converter para sa diesel na Sedona?

Also, I discovered the cause of the mysterious whistling noise I reported a few pages back that the casa (Wheels E. Rod) diagnosed as a busted turbocharger assembly. It turns out that when the gas station mechanic changes the oil and air filters, the big air intake hose (the one between the air filter and the engine) comes loose a fraction of a millimeter, so that air rushes in as the vehicle is accelerating.

Bumalik uli kasi yung whistling noise kanina pagkatapos ng change oil ko, kaya pinalamig ko mabuti yung makina para masilip ko kung may naglo-loose talaga na hose somewhere. Fortunately, I found the culprit and now the whistling noise is gone.

Moral of the story: never take the casa's recommendation as gospel. Always ask for a second opinion, especially when thousands of pesoses are concerned

Re the bushing, here in Korea one company who specialized in suspension, they sell one whole kit of aftermarket bushing. Pero yung Sedona natin medyo may kamahalan ung full set of suspensio bushing. Heto yong picture:

mikey177, looks like the muffler. Is that the fuel just below and the rear axle above?

Yes, DacoTyan, that's the fuel tank at the bottom of the picture and the rear axle at the top.

Hmmm, ganun pala itsura ng muffler ng Sedona. I really need to read up on these things; all the while I thought all mufflers were cylindrical in appearance.

Catalyctic converters are usually placed as closed to the exhaust manifold as possible for greater efficiency.

Just brought Canival last week from a seller here in Manila. The first thing i did was to visual inspect at sanity check nung engine for abnormal noise, vibrations, excessive smoke... etc. Ok naman ung unit. Plan to have oil change as priority 1. Un nga lang may smoke specially pag naka idle.

Ano ba ang ideal idling RPM ng carnival (with aircon on or off). Nasa 800RPM pag on ung aircon compressor and 800 din pag off ung aircon... and at this RPM, medyo abot hangang 3rd row ung vibration, lalo na pag ako lang ang nakasakay. Thanks...

Just had our first trip to Pangasinan for the holidays, and I also noticed the whistling sound when I reach 80kph. Can you also take a picture of the hose you mentioned above, so I can look for it and possibly fix mine as well before we go back to Manila.

    Thanks and Merry Christmas!!!!

    generic_boy,

I think a greater degree of vibration in the Carnival compared to a gasoline-powered vehicle is a given since our ride is a diesel. My RPM hovers at around 800 rpm also whether the aircon is on or off.

    jordan,

Hindi kaya wind noise lang yon dahil naririnig mo lang sya pag 80 kph na ang takbo mo? Anyway, here is a photo of the hose in question. This was taken from the driver side fender of the vehicle; it's a bit hard to see from this angle, and even harder to reach. The blue arrow traces the path of the air filter housing hose and the blue circle points the where this hose connects with the metal part of the engine. It is at this connection that the hose can come loose, and if it comes loose by even a millimeter or two here, it can cause a whistling noise in any gear while accelerating.
