i have a concern pala sa van ko. i hope you guys can share your experiences. whenever i drive above 70kph on a downhill and i stop on the brakes, my van shakes. take note that it is not the steeering wheel that shakes but the whole van. i also dont feel the brake pedal pushing back o yung may kumukontra. normal lang ang feeling ng pedal. brakes dont make any sound too. what could be the problem? it's always above 70kph and on a downhill. coz kung derecho lang ang daan, kahit 120kph pa takbo ko, ok lang naman. bakit kaya to?

my theory is that the van's front end (specifically the engine) is heavy. i suspect the brakes arent sufficient enough kaya minsan parang nag overheat yung pads and it "skips". may kahulugan ba theory ko? anyone experienced this? please take note na kumakapit naman ang brakes nya. im not comfortable lang with the van shaking/vibrating when i apply the brakes on a downhill.

    thanks.

    bisoy,

definitely, it has something to do with the brakes. because it only happens when you brake, di ba? and not when your running normally. my opinion, warped rotors.

kung hindi downhill at hindi more than 70kph, walang vibrations ang van. kung warp rotors, hindi ba dapat ma experience ko rin ang ganito kahit sa highway lang ang takbo ko? i ask coz i did try driving fast upto 120kph and stepped on the brakes. walang vibration kasi. the vibrations occur if it is only on a downhill tapos more than 70kph takbo ko. kung below 70kph, hindi masyadong ramdam. what do u think?

bisoy, di ba same vibration yung katulad ng vibration when turning off the engine? since when we turn off the engine, actually, we kill the fuel source, tapos medyo mag vvibrate. so kung downhill yun at 70khp, then you suddenly release the gas pedal and step on the brakes, di parang medyo na ddeprive yung engine ng fuel (?) causing it to vibrate. Theory lang naman.

I have been driving downhill, except for basement parking. nag ttry nga ako mag brake when going down the slope, ang napansin ko parang mahina yung brake or mabigat lang talaga yung carnival.

benchph1, ano yung first picture? hindi kasi klaro.

beamme, like what alternator drops into our carnival at mas mataas na amperage? after fixing the pulley problem, i havent encountered any problems yet re brakes, steering and aircon. sabi naman ng mechanic ko, pwede daw mas malaking hydrovac sa brakes kung gusto ko ng mas malakas na brake. for me, as long as it is functioning well, ok pa naman.

i have 2 questions sana. i hope someone can answer them:

    1) any long term negative effect on the solid pulley? what i did was remove the rubber damper and sleeved it with metal. thats what im using kasi now.

    2) can we adjust height ng front suspension natin? i have a gen 1 commercial unit carnival. parati kasi sumasayad sa gutter or mataas na humps.

    thanks
Can someone here answer the first question? kasi ganyan na din ang pulley ng VW Caravelle ko. Grabe kasi brand new pulley for my Caravelle its P22,000 (Anak ng #*$#*!!) kaya pina convert ko na sa machine shop na solid na bakal.

    Thanks.

beamme, tingin ko nott he same vibration sya. ibang klase ang vibration nya. parang yung buong harap ng van.... and i mean the body shaking. the steering wheel doesnt shake... parang ang van talaga.

from your theory, dapat kahit straight line or uphill, mag vibrate pa rin ang auto. pero hindi kasi eh. it's just the downhill drive. nakapagtataka talaga. im not sure if my theory is right na weak ang brakes ng carnival for its weight. so kung downhill, mas malaki ang brake requirement dahil sa momentum. the brakes hold then overheat making it slide a little coz hindi na sya gaano ka efficient. the sliding causes the vibration?

another theory ng isang mechanic is that my body bolts might need retightening. may connection ba? coz kung meron, bakit downhill lang?

    esep esep....

Got my carnival back. Good thing, I had the van towed and did not try to start the or use the van. The return hose and upper radiator hoses were replaced. The water hose disengaged and let the water out. A couple of fuel injectors had to have their O-rings replaced as well. The mechanic suspects that the build up in pressure or heat was due to the fuel injectors not functioning properly because of the faulty brackets keeping them in place. Total expense was PHP 1,260 for the parts (hoses and brackets) and about PHP 1000 for the labor. Had it repaired at Delta Motors Quezon Avenue. The chief mechanic didn't have kind words for his counterparts in Delta Motors Cubao, where I had it last serviced. He said that the Delta Cubao mechanics should have replaced the brackets and put in the right hoses supplying diesel to the engine. Instead, the Cubao mechanic welded the bracket and used an under spec pressure hose.

What can be learned? Stay away from Delta Motors Cubao (a Kia Authorized Service Center)! It remains to be seen if Delta Quezon Ave.'s workmanship is better. We will see. My wife will be going to Tagaytay tomorow and use the van.

    ecport,

Sana di na magka-problema yung van mo. So, you mean that Delta Motors Cubao and Delta Motors Q. Ave. aren't owned by the same group?

    mikey177,
Same owner/s, same company but different mechanics and different level of service. I hesitated to have it serviced at Delta Quezon Ave. because of my experience with Delta Cubao but I recall having gone to Delta Quezon Ave once and the mechanic seemed to know what he was talking about.
Maliit lang nga ang space sa Delta Quezon Ave (at mainit!) compared to the one in Cubao. I believe Delta is a direct importer of Kia parts. Anyway, I hope I made the right choice this time. Matakaw lang sa maintenance itong Carnival na ito.

I cant think of anything else that will make the van vibrate when braking while going downhill. engine supports?

Palpak din Delta Motors sa Marikina. Stay away from this dealership.

my sedona will be having its 40t km checkup, i inquired at Wheels New Manila and they said it will cost around P12,000...they will replace the fuel and air filters and its a major checkup...my questions are:
    1. Is it really this expensive?
    2. I was suppose to have it serviced at Signet Edsa but read somwhere that their service and mechanics are not that good..is it true? is Wheels New Manila better?
    3. Do you have other suggestions where i can have my Sedona serviced?

Hope to here from you guys...your inputs and reactions will be much appreciated...thanks in advance

not sure boss. my unit is a first gen local carnival LS model. alam ko may airbag. not sure about the abs. meron nga ba? ganito ba ang effect ng abs?

if you have airbag, you might have ABS. it releases and depresses the brakes multiple times when the tires are slipping. you can try (ON A VERY SAFE and CLEAR road) to "feel" your ABS. find a slippery but empty road and press hard on the brake. if you are able to duplicate the vibration, then it must be it. be very careful please.

I believe the gen1 also has ABS, like the gen2. Several times have felt the ABS kick in when I brake hard. Its a weird feeling, as it makes you think there is something wrong with the brake system. ABS at work feels like braking on a gravel road, or that your pads are worn out, but without the squealing sound, or it feels like your brakes are pulsating very hard. The initial reaction would be to lessen stepping on the brakes when in reality, you must continue to apply pressure on the brakes to allow the ABS to work.

Yes, it may feel like your whole car vibrating, though I don't think it is as "emphasized" the way you explain it pareng bisoy.

Lately, many forumers have been dissatisfied with the service at Wheels E. Rodriguez (New Manila). My sguggestion would be to ask for an itemized breakdown of the parts and labor charges that Wheels plans to include in the PMS, and then compare same with the quotation from another casa.

Since I live in the province, I cannot personally endorse any Metro Manila service centers, but if you search the thread, you'll find several comments on Wheels, Delta Motors and other outlets.

Try Kia Pasay. Or call other dealer that is near to you and ask what is included.

mikey177, can't really tell how it got broken. got lazy and left the car outside. alarm beeped, i looked out the window seeing nothing but my dog who probably bumped the car. later i was shocked to see the broken glass. no big rock or stray bullet anywhere. unless windows breaks on hot weather(is it possible??), i'm guessing some kids throwed a small rock at my dog and hit the car. but again i didn't see any kids that time.
just can't help commenting on this.

windows breaking under hot weather is less likely. one clue that you can look at is where the peices of the broken glass were located. pieces inside the car means the force came from the outside, it could have been done with stone or other hard objects. if this is the case, my guess is it was hit with a hand-held object like pipe or baseball bat that is why you were not able to find anything other than thebroken glass. kung ito nga ang nangyari, ingat ka na lang sa pagpa-park at malmang napagtripan yung sasakyan mo.

but if the broken glass are outside the car then atleast you are sure na hindi gawa ng tao pero it will also raise another concern like quality ng glass na ginagamit ng kia.

pasensya na kung late, but i am also looking at carnival as possible car for the family.
