hello guys ... i just joined this forum and this is my first post. I have read all the posts in this thread (yes all 37 pages of it) but i really find it very helpful and informative as another carnival owner just like all of you. I can totally relate to the good and not so good comments about this car. I am 1 with you in saying "I really love this car" and if i have to replace this car, i'll most likely get another carnival/sedona model kahit ano pa sabihin na negative ng ibang tao about this car.

Grabe gulat ako kung paano nyo patakbuhin yung mga carnival/sedona nyo, ako nga di ko pinalalampas sa 2.2rpm siguro 110km/h lang yung pinaka mabilis ko but i know the car can easily go faster. Safe driver kasi ako, with family eh

. Pero powerful torque is readily available in low rpm, kaya kahit na between 1-2k rpm lang(which is my usual operating rpm) dami ko na na lalampasan na mga oto na sedan pa. Di ko alam if that helps in my decent fuel consumption. My calculation on average consumption is 8-9km/l city 10-14km/l highway. Have my own dose of city traffic during workdays but i get to make harurot during weekend at NLEX and sunday leisure drives

Just to give you a brief background about my ride, my carnival is gen1 year 2000 and local, color is olive (actually hindi ko alam yung exact color but i am sure you know the color that i am talking about), 7 seater sya and i agree na parang nasa tren or business class family ko, the sad thing is i've never been a passenger to my car kasi ako lagi driver and i don't like anyone else driving it unless the driving style of the would be driver will be similar to mine . I actually bought it 2nd hand last 2003, so this car has been with me for about 2 years now. Mileage was 28k when i got it and now it is 46k, di naman din kasi masyado kong gamit except when i am tagging my family with me (which is just wifey and a 23month old monster.)

So far the only problem i encountered was the P/S fluid leak. I had it serviced at KIA marikina (delta motors) and they replaced the the P/S vane pump and would you believe na after 2 weeks eh nag leak na ulit. I tried to ask them to rectify or replace kasi dapat under warranty pa but they refused kaya nabuwisit na ako. I will not recommend you to go to that service center kasi di lang lousy yung service sobra taga pa sa price. Akala ko nga nakamura ako kasi i know kia's part are relatively cheaper as compared to jap brands pero mali ko rin na di na ako nag check sa iba. Ito kasing nasa marikina pinaka malapit sa akin. So ngayon may leak pa rin but i just top up weekly, wala naman akong napapansin na iba sa steering so i'd chosen to buy PS fluid rather than buy another vane pump kung yun nga ang dapat palitan ulit. I also replaced the bushings and new tires dunlop pero di yung le mans. Medyo tamad ako mag pa service sa casa kasi my father is a motorpool manager so sa mekaniko nya lang ako nagpapatingin kung may problema ako. But i do change oil religiously every 4,500km nga eh.

After reading the posts i suspect na i might have to change my oil pump chain VERY SOON. I hear a chain rattle on the left side (if you are facing the engine from outside). But thank God di pa naputol siguro mga 1-1/2 year na yung tunog and ok pa naman yung takbo. Nasabi na sa akin ito ng service manager sa casa kaso di ako naniwala kasi nga baba pa ng mileage ko. Siguro yung previous owner di madalas mag pa change oil.

1. Magkano inabot yung replacement ng oil pump chain (parts and labor) para sa mga nakapagpalit na ng chain? I called wheels inc and they estimate na mga 30k.

2. Plan to use BD, any suggestions on how i can start and go about this? di ko alam kung OT pero about carnival usage naman so sana oks lang. So far yung pagkaintindi ko eh to use a higher mixture about 5-10% for 2 full tank in the beginning then change fuel filter then slowly reduce mixture to about 1-2%. Ito lang ba yung dapat i gawin.

I have a 2001 carnival and started using BD a month ago, mileage was 105K kms. I didn't bother to start with a high percentage mixture, as I was not experiencing any smoke belching problems. I just started filling up with the 1% premix at Flying V and felt the improvement immediately. Even my service advisor at Signet Mandaluyong was surprised during my last servicing because there was practically no smoke during idling, "dapat may konting puti pero walang-wala."

I really got hooked on BD that I also bought the concentrate at Flying V (PhP 130 per liter to be mixed at 1:99 ratio) so I could gas up anywhere and do my own mixing.

I'm not sure about the oil chain since I don't remember having mine changed. Timing belt yes but oil chain, no. Try to have a second opinion at other KIA casa (I suggest Signet Mandaluyong, look for Bong - service advisor), maybe the rattle is from another source. At 113K kms mine should have been replaced already but so far, I'm not being advised to do so.

uy thanks salonika ... outside my subd may flying v at seaoil and they are selling 125/liter na pure BD pero flying v nga is selling a premix BD1 at 32.xx/liter eh ito yung pinakamalapit sa akin kaya i was thinking of using the services kaysa punta pa ako cubao to buy a cheaper BD which i think should be worth it. So ok naman pala yung premix na. So have you replaced your fuel filter or have it checked for any added accumulated dirt as a result of using BD?

welcome sa mga bago dito! Attention Bisoy, take note Raddie's fuel economy. Gen1 din yung sa kanya like yours. Salonika, considering over 100K na ang mileage mo when you started using BD, expect accumulated deposits that will cause filter clogging. You wont necessarily see it in the 1st 1000km of use, maybe lalabas yan even after 5K. Just observe for any changes. Salonika, regarding BD use, you can research.

Bottom line is any level BD is fine, I use 2% because I noticed at 1%, mausok pa rin. Higher would be better.

altec, thanks for the owner's manuals on cd. my katiwala has already got them from your place last wednesday. i will have that cd on my reading list when it gets here. muchas gracias!

raddie, welcome to the thread! if you ask me, i prefer pouring the bd on my tank myself even though it's cheaper if you buy it premixed right off the pumps. but that's just me.

raddie, i think masyadong mataas yung 30k...
overhaul labor sa casa is 10k, so I think less dapat kung chain lang. plus the price of the chain.

altec, di ko pa nadownload, but soon when I get to a internet cafe. delikado dto sa office, ang laki ng files. thanks so much.

btw, i just replaced my batt with a 13 plates, 80A type. korean made(mega force) pero warranty ng outlast marketing (jvsp ata yun). its 1,400 cheaper than the motolite excel. nag improve yung takbo nung van, just I suspected my old batt (11plates, 70A) was causing performance degradation. I don't know the exact connection sa performance pero it did went back to its original performance when I changed it.

you know what, we have the same car and the same experiences about it. mine's a 2001 model, AT. also got it 2nd hand with only 15,000 kms on it. and i also had a P/S leak, brought it to Delta Motors Marikina and had the same bad experience! haha. coincidence isnt it. The culprit on the p/s leak on my unit is the hi-pressure hose, then another leak appeared. this time its the power steering pump. Good thing spare parts for our vans are cheap.

Regarding the stereo, hanep naman yung head unit ni eric, with built in lcd monitor although vcd lang yata. Ganun ba lahat ng mga head unit ng mga imported models? Sorry, yung local version is just CD and am/fm.
