    Merry xmas to all!

Parang matindi din ang asking nila for the fuel filter.

    Witch,

My two cents. You might want to try and have them fix your carnival's computer box first instead of having the whole lot fixed. This way, you know which part has failed and needs to be fixed. I am not sure why you need to have the fuel pump and filter replaced unless the mechanic or shop isn't sure what is really wrong and is attempting to do a "wholesale" repair of your vehicle.
Another approach is to have the fuel pump fixed first.

    Witch,

When I had my Sedona serviced at Wheels E. Rodriguez last Feb., they replaced the alternator & aircon belts, along with the alternator auto tensioner and an idler pulley. The labor cost for this lot of work was P546.

I'm not aware of how much a gas fuel filter costs, but at Wheels the OEM diesel fuel filter costs P782.

Anyway, if it's feasible maybe you could ask Kia Quezon Ave for a price quote for the parts and services you need to have done.

Also, does the shop you're at now offer any warranty for the work they will do?

Thanks to you guys who took time in giving comments for the prices I listed. I am now negotiating with the owner for the possible discounts base on your inputs...ibang klase talaga ang thread na ito, very productive. So far, warranted naman daw lahat ng works. Again, thanks for all your inputs.

My sister in law is planning to get a 05' kia carnival park 2 a/t with dunlop tires and 30k odo for P670th. Tama ba presyo o mahal?

Ano ba dapat i check o tignan or tips before buying, di kami sanay sa carnival.

    C190,

Is the unit a diesel or gas-powered Carnival? When you said it was a Park 2, I'm assuming you mean it's a grey market unit, tama ba?

    C190,

At 30K mileage for a 1 year old Carnival means it was driven at an average of 2,500 Kms/month (more if the van is less than a year old). This tells me it was used quite extensively. Check engine power and performance by driving uphill, then check the temp and oil levels or signs for any oil leaking out. If it is indeed a year old, then the seats and the carpet should still be relatively new. The driver's seat should provide an indication on how often the van has been used. Essentially watch out for general wear and tear signs as this must be consistent with a 1 year old vehicle.

Check out how the front tires too. Tread wear should be even. PHP 670K looks reasonable. Find out where the owner lives and works as this will give you an idea of daily use and what streets the owner goes through. I hope the owner is not from Malabon or a flood prone area.

Try to check out the former owner's other cars and his home to have an idea of how well he takes care of his belongings.

    mikey177,
i'ts diesel 2.9 tdi, grey market nga i think coz we're not familiar sa models ng carnival/sedona.

    ecport/OTEP,
    thanks sa tips

the unit is displayed sa car exchange kaya baka mahirap na ma check background ng previous owner.

anyway by January pa sya kukuha so we have still time to look for other units.

    C190,

ecport pretty much covered the things to look out for.

Since the unit is only a year old and has gone only 30,000 km, there should not be any major engine parts replaced yet, like timing belt (dapat 70,000 km pa) or engine supports.

If you can, ask for service records to see how the unit was maintained. The PMS interval for the Carnival is every 5,000 km. After driving the unit, check for any leaks under the van or in the engine bay. Better yet, have the owner drive the unit first to see if he observes the proper warm-up and cooldown procedures for the turbodiesel engine Dapat, pag malamig pa yung makina, below 2,000 rpm lang ang takbo. Tapos, bago i-off yung engine, dapat pinapalamig ng mga 30 seconds to 3 minutes, depende kung gaano kabilis o ka-rigorous yung pagtakbo.

Also, check for black smoke when accelerating. If there is black smoke that doesn't go away even after the first hard acceleration, then the unit was probably not maintained well.

We brought it to to a car cleaner and have it shampooed pero hindi pa rin naalis yung masamang amoy. Baka naman may maisuggest kayo? TIA.

C190, is the unit you're referring to a white one found in one of the pasig car exchanges? if so, you better check for collision damage on the van.

my sister-in-law is so enamored with the carnival that she and her husband are closing a deal on a three-year old RS sedona soon.

You will have to use lysol solution, sabay maglagay ng arm and hammer to absorb the smell, aerate in under the sun, carpet shampoo. But there will still be a smell.

Guys, I noticed when I turn the steering wheel left or right, tumitigas ng konti, then malambot, na parang ang daming bald spot ang gulong. Sabi ng mekaniko, kailangan daw ilubricate ang idler something (don't think he meant the idler arm) in the steering column, yun daw ang sakit ng kia. Fortunately (unfortunately), the latest rains from the seniang typhoon, nawala yung problema. I was planning to have it lubricated on Monday. Have any of you experienced this?

Thanks for the replies guys! Pusit, isda, hipon and alimasag ang pinamili namin last tuesday sa dalahican in lucena. Shampoeed it twice, sprayed lysol and placed charcoals inside pero mabaho pa rin.

This i learned the hard way, i've used replacement hoses and fabricated pressure hose para makatipid, the result is tumigas at umingay ang steering niya. Lessons learned... used original parts para makasiguro.

arm and hammer is a brand of pure baking soda that is advertised for different uses and also used as a deodorizer.
