Jabr... i think it would be worth mentioning the "highly recommended shop" so all of us would know and will avoid this things to happen especially if the difference cannot be justified.... though, they deserve to have a chance to explain or we can come up with a possible reason for this difference....

Yeah, ok lang naman if you mention it.

Putting a mark up on parts is considered industry norm. Siyempre negosyo iyan. And there is no limit as to how much mark up a shop can put on a part. There's nothing illegal about that. That is why it always pays to shop around like what you did. Ang mas nakakainis ay yung shops na nagpupumilit na palitan mo ang part na hindi naman pala talaga sira in the first place like R*p*d* and Z*f*a.

Edit: some shops that I go to (including shops for mechanical works) also have 'high' (not casa high but still high for that kind of shop) asking prices because they anticipate na tatawad ang client. In the end, pumapayag din naman for rates that are below industry standard.

    Otep & E Chen:

Sorry for the late replies guys ha. Well, i must admit na standard industry practice yung pag mark up ng parts, pero it should not be so much (as much as 100% on the evaporator) like what he had charged me, because they already billed me for the labor cost (2,000 including cleaning of the aircon).

How much does a kilo of 134-A costs in the market today? 400/kilo? The specs for the carnival states that the maximum freon charge is 1.5 kgs, and he charged me 1,200 pesos for the freon.

I have posted the price para pag nagcanvas kayo sa mga aircon shops eh hindi na tayo mataga dahil alam na natin ang prices ng parts hehehe.

BTW, you can find the shop sa may brgy. kapitolyo, pasig. Ang name ng shop niya eh sounds similar sa isang part ng katawan natin. Yun na.....

    Hi,

Had my aircon cleaned, the shop charged me 2500 and then they noticed that my ride had leaked in my discharge (?) hose that caused to lose freon, they repaired it for an additional 1300. I just don't know if the 105 Car Care in Binan charged me reasonably, although I am satisfied with the way they handled their job. Also, I would like to ask, does anybody notice if their passenger aircon vent is blowing "air" weaker than the other side? What could be the cause? Tia.

    hinlog,

I can think of two possibilities:

    1. There is a clog, blockage or leak somewhere along the path that the air travels.
    2. The vents on the side that has weaker air flow are in the "closed" position.

    hello fellow tsikoteers,

I'm also thinking of buying a carnival, and from what i've read here, i'm pretty convinced it's a good buy. What do you think about the V6 variant? i'm considering it as an option also. Hope to hear your valuable inputs soon, thanks in advance!

From the comments on this thread, the V6 variant that came out around 2004 is a bit of a gas guzzler. Also, one Tsikoteer, witch, is planning to sell their Sedona V6 because of engine problems that were also discussed earlier in this thread.

I would also suggest either getting the 2nd gen diesel variant or the new CRDI model if you've got the funds.

Yup, there's traffic buildup in Nancayasan right before the Mitsubishi dealership and also at the main intersection because of road works in these areas. The situation is "bearable" during normal days, but if you're planning to pass through during Holy Week, I'd recommend using an alternative route instead.

Well, mine is 1999 V6 variant. Odometer reads 65000+ only (I seldom use, say once every 2 weeks only). Previously had a problem on computer box, because the guy who repair the alternator disconnect the battery terminal while engine is running (this is a big no) to test wether the alternator is charging. Anyway, I'm planning to sell it for P250t. Pinag-iisipan ko pa ng husto kasi I bought it last October 2005 at P375t. Sayang din kasi...ang sarap ng ride eh.

    Goodluck to your hunting...

Here is what the Gen 1 to Gen 3 Carnivals look like (thanks to shauntot and diesoline for the photos):

What's the odometer reading on the Carnival you're thinking of buying? Pwede ka rin tumingin sa mga buy and sell ads para may general idea ka sa fair market value for that year model.

    witch,

Did the mechanic replace the whole computer box or just repair it somehow? How much did the repair cost, if you don't mind my asking?

Also, thanks for the info. I'll make sure mechanics that work on my ride don't make the mistake of disconnecting the battery terminal with the engine running.

The mechanic said they just repair it. He charged me P9t. Brand new is about P25t. But I doubt if they really repaired it, baka kasi pinalitan lang ng surplus.

BTW, anybody knows how to fix weak front break? I seldom use kasi my ride, parang nag-stock sya after sometime. Ang effect ang hina ng kagat. Nangyari na sa akin ito last year, kaya lang di ko nakita what the mechanic did, sabi nya nilinis nya lang daw ang assembly.

yup, brake problems are usually solved by cleaning them.

btw, i was at goodgear two weeks ago and the guy beside me bought a new electronic control unit for a gen1 tdic. if i remember right, he told me it cost him P4800.

I think nasa 70K ++ na yung mileage. actually prices for 2000 models range from 300-350k. Ganda ng gen2, pero if I'm not mistaken 2000 models have the gen1 look? with regard to spareparts, hindi naman ba problem to look for parts? thanks in advance

The usual sources of parts for the Carnival are

    Karmelcon (Banawe) -- tel. 414-3989
    Fronte (Banawe) -- tel. 7120864 / 7120919
    Goodgear (Pasay) -- tel. 8338382 / 5110376

Pag sa probinsya gaya dito sa Pangasinan, medyo mahirap ang parts dahil iilan lang ang naka-Carnival dito (even the casa in Dagupan gets a lot of parts from Kia Pampanga). Kaya kami ni diesoline pag lumuluwas ng QC, stock up on spare parts
