bench do you still have PS leak and just top up when the fluid is low? or ok na unit mo?
thanks trendy for your info.
I still have not started with BD, im still undecided kung ako mag mix or yung sa flying v na lag.
I'll probably check the kotse.com i think altec may maganda kang thread doon about BD.
Speaking of emission testing and registration, let me share you with a tip, napansin ko na maraming carbon deposit sa may muffler kapag bagong start. Kaya while waiting for your turn sa emission don't turn off the engine. Kahit na yung mga taga Pasig kapitolyo motorpool where you get clearance iniiwasan talaga yung mga carnival. So ang ginagawa ko i just stencil the chassis num tapos kunyari mayroon shade yung sa engine num. Tinatanggap naman ng LTO (i registrer in marikina the one near Sta Lucia East) sinsabi ko lang na carnival yung kotse ko eh mahirap kuhanan. I've done it twice already. So this coming Jan malamang ganoon ulit gawin ko.
Final question, sa manual natin nakalagay na yung oil capacity ng car natin eh 7.4l pero whenever i change oil my mechanic only puts around 6.75-7l kasi lagpas na sa full yung dipstick kahit na after the engine is running. Kayo ilang liters of oil yung nilalagay nyo sa carnival nyo during change oil?
raddie,
ok na p/s ng carnival namin. p/s pump repair kit naman ngayon. holding the steering wheel in a full turn is the most likely reason behind all these p/s leaks. i think this applies to all cars who have p/s.
i forgot to point out the innacuracy in our manual ngapala. thanks for bringing it up raddie. besides the motor oil, sa radiator capacity innacurate din. last 40,000 km preventive maintenance check-up palit daw ng engine coolant. forgot the exact figure pero parang 5 liters? eh di ba ang ideal mixture ng coolant and distilled water ay 60:40
so bili akong 3 liters of concentrated coolant and 2 liters of wilkins distilled water. poured all of the coolant, then wala pang 1 liter ng tubig napuno na kagad. started the engine to let it circulate pero ganun na talaga ang level. turns out naging 70:30 pa ang mixture or is it 80:20? running it for almost a year na wala naman naging problema sa cooling. bottom line is kung one of the most important things like motor oil and radiator coolant capacity ay innacurate pano pa kaya ung ibang details? ehem paging columbian motors![]()
Very true. Page 4-30 of my manual states, "Never hold the steering wheel against a stop (extreme right or left turn) for more than five seconds with the engine running. Holding the steering wheel for more than five seconds in either position may cause damage to the power steering pump.holding the steering wheel in a full turn is the most likely reason behind all these p/s leaks
Thanks for bringing this up. I have to remind our family driver about it before he takes out the Sedona again.
I usually need only six liters during an oil change. I used to insist that the mechanic put in seven liters as stated in the manual, but the dip stick already reads "full" at a little over six liters.Kayo ilang liters of oil yung nilalagay nyo sa carnival nyo during change oil?
thanks altec. ok yung sayo ah. is yours manual or a/t? mine is a/t kasi. i had my 3rd full tank last week pala. it registered a 7.69km/L na consumption. this is weird coz naka POWER mode pa ako. nung nag econo mode ako, 5.73 and 6.78 ang consumption ko. naka POWER mode ako ngayon and ill let you guys know of my fourth fulltank kung ano ang consumo.Originally Posted by altec

i would just like to share something that is not carnival/sedona related pero makakatulong din ito sa inyo specially with a/t transmission..... change your atf every 20,000kms! nasunog mga discs ko sa tranny after neglecting to change my atf. my tranny is now being overhauled at honda cdo. so guys, change your atf din. konting expense lang ito pero daming mo ma save kesa may masira. hope this helps.
Floor mats
Has anyone changed their original floor matting? I've noticed that the floor matting easily gets moved around as it does not stick to the carpet. Any tips on how to remedy this?
Mikey,
I did changed my floor mats and bought one pasadya sa true value. The new one has nomad look alike top and the bottom has spikes. So this prevents the matting to move under your feet. Unfortunately pangit pala pag nomad style. because after two years upod na yung hairs ng nomad. Better get another surface other than the nomad style.
tnx

Altec, Hi. I just checked the Kia manuals this morning and noticed that I'm missing nos. 121 to 156. Could you send them again when you can? Thanks.
daco, kung wala ka, then that means yung iba na kasabay sa iyo, wala rin? Will send it next week, medyo busy ako this week eh. Rodski, ganun din sa akin! Tru Value rin galing. Nakita ng suki kong accessory shop, sabi nila yung nomad style di dapat matanggal like that, manipis yung sa true value. The problem kasi sa suki ko, walang studs, by the roll then they cut it up. Ang maganda din kasi sa mats na galing sa true value, yung edges niya, nakabalot, so very clean ang dating. Yung lang nga, nakakalbo.
Guys, what is the on-going resale value of our vans? Mine is a Carnival Park II June 2002. I am going to renew my insurance and I just feel that the van is undervalued and kung may mangyari gusto ko lang tama ang makukuha ko.
Thanks for the tips regarding the floor mats. I bought a set of generic nomad-style floor mats from an auto supply store in Urdaneta, and the hairs stated falling out after less than three weeks. Will try to look for a sturdier set of mats when I visit QC.
ericmm::: I also have a 2002 unit, but mine is only an RS model. On the policy that I got, the coverage for own damage or theft is P675,000. Hope this helps.
You could also try looking through the classified ads to get an idea of the Sedona's ridiculously low resale value.
Hello Everyone!
I am not a Kia Sedona/Carnival owner BUT am planning of being one. The family is growing and it is hard to fit all of us in a sedan.
Though I prefer to have a brand new car, budget constraints restrict me, thus I am planning of a buying a 2nd-hand 2001 or 2002 model, probably a Korean version.
With this programmed on my mind, I would like to ask for your opinions regarding:
1. What parts should I check?
2. How do I check these parts myself? (Layman's term will be nice, I'm an idiot in cars, drive lang ng drive)
3. Are the Korean versions serviced at the Kia casa as well?
4. Some say that parts for the Korean versions are hard to find, is this true?

Hope to hear from all you guys.
Thank you!!!
Welcome, jordan.
If you search a few pages back on this thread, another forum member, leolop, asked about what to check out in a second hand Sedona. These include the engine, suspension, electrical system, air conditioning system, and other components. However, it is really advisable to have a competent mechanic with you when checking a second hand car.
Also, when you say "Korean version," are you referring to the grey market imported Carnivals as contrasted with the local Sedonas?
welcome to tsikot, jordan... some quick answers:Originally Posted by jordan
1. imo, you should ask the current owner if he had done a timing belt change if the odo reads above 70k km.
2. bring a trusted mechanic na lang.![]()
3. i can only speak for wheels. yes, wheels (kia new manila) accepts for servicing the grey market units.
4. my carnival is a grey market crdi. except for the fuel filter, i have no problem sourcing for needed parts so far.
guys, i'm back. been terribly busy past month.Originally Posted by ericmm
altec, many many thanks for the manual. i still haven't downloaded it all but the part i did is great. sorry if my suggestion of zipping the files didn't work out.
totoybato, pre maraming salamat for the strut bar and backing mirror. straight from Korea, friends. hassle nga lang dahil yung 3m adhesive nung mirror di kinaya. may parang soft material siya between the adhesive layer to the mirror and the layer to the surface of the spoiler. di yata nag-cure ng mabuti, lumamabot at nag-stretch. hanap na lang ako ng ibang pandikit.
ericmm, sorry can't resist to comment. ako yata kasi ang pinaka beneficiary ng ridiculous low resale value ng carnival, naalala ko na naman sa post mo. hehe.
jordan, even better than magdala ng mekaniko, dalhin mo na lang sa Kia casa for a check up and estimate for any repairs. gawin mo pag desidido ka na sa unit. it's the first thing you should do after buying, may as well do it before.
i'm 1,500 kms into my unit and it's been great. family is really happy and after the initial maintenance, nothing to fix so far. BUT my biodiesel experience hasn't been as great like most. from 20 then 10 percent, i tried bringing it down to 5 percent, hayun nag-usok.
i had to bring it back to 10% and medyo bumawas na. i use seaoil and bioactiv and it comes out to P34.85/l. ouch.
I'm going to try out the service of Kia San Fernando Pampanga tomorrow.
I hope it's nothing serious![]()
hi mikey ...
Thanks for the suggestion, raddie. I checked the PS fluid right after reading your post, and it was still at the maximum level. I've never had to top it off either so I guess I could rule out a PS pump leak as the cause of the whining sound. There are also no visible fluid leaks either in the engine bay or under the car.
Anyway, I'll be heading off to Kia Pampanga in a while. Will post their findings this afternoon.
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!
mikey177 Yes, I was referrring to a grey market Carnival.
I would really love to read all the posts but I'm using a dial-up and its taking eternity for each page to load. unti-untiin ko na lang![]()
diesoline I'm buying from a reseller so I do not have direct contact with the previous owner to ask for the repairs and changes he did. The reseller don't have a list either. Anyway, the current milleage is 45K.
leolop I would really want to bring the unit to the casa prior to purchase but I think that will not be possible. The reseller allows to have the test run for only 2-3 blocks from the shop.
Last weekend with my wife, son and I went to see the unit , and we really felt in love (I've always loved how a Carnival looks inside-out). And here are what we saw:
GOOD:
1. the exterior was clean with few fading in the paint and minor scratches.
2. the interior was awesome - very clean
3. cd & radio are functioning
4. aircon is good
5. engine is not noisy, maybe because we just used it for a while
6. Dunlop tires
BAD
1. there is kalampag on the left front wheel, which the caretaker in the shop admitted to be a problem in the bushing
2. you have to step hard on the brakes to have an effect, o ganun talaga preno nya, malalim?
3. the steering wheel (spokes) is not aligned in the center
4. fog lamps are flooded
I've mentioned #2. the brakes to a friend, and he said that, it is probably a problem in the Hydro-Vac. Anyone experienced this? Mahal ba yun.
With regards to all the items written under BAD, the reseller will apparently fix all these prior to settlement. Any comments on this?
I hope to hear from all of you again.
Is 480K a good deal for a 2001 Carnival Park II with 45K milleage?
Thanks everyone!
