altec,
I think J3 is the TDIC. Anyway, bumiyahe ka palagi sa highway, mawawala yung smoke belching na yan. Occasionally, I get a little black smoke when I rev the engine up for the first time before the turbo kicks in, but after that there are no noticeable black emissions. Am almost up to 95,000-km on the odometer
Also, my stock Kumho tires also wore out faster in front than at the back, but I also didn't wait for them to wear out too much since I wanted to change them ASAP to something that would give me more peace of mind while driving at highway speeds.

August 8th, 2005 03:13 PM #362Mikey, I think only diesoline is crdi, yours is the same engine as mine, the 2.9tdic? When you say highway, up to what rpm do you reach and maintain? From what I recall, 100kph is just slightly above 2K rpm, so to really belch out the smoke in my case at 3K rpm, I have to go maybe over 130kph and maintain? Cebu kasi ako Mikey, makitid ang highway dito, mahirap sustain yung ganung speed.

altec,
Highway cruising speed for me is usually 80-100 kph, which translates to only 2,000 rpm. However, I occasionally reach 3,000 rpm when overtaking slow vehicles in 2nd or 3rd gear. Also, I haven't used biodiesel for over a year owing to the lack of suppliers in Pangasinan. So far, I haven't noticed any degredation in engine performance, and smoke belching is still rare for me even without BD.
I sometimes reach 130 kph on the NLEX, but my heart can't take any higher speeds, so I wouldn't know if my engine would belch smoke if it goes over 130 kph
Anyway, I hope you find a solution to your smoke belching woes.
Does the Sedona CDRi engine have a different designation from the TDIC? I'm sure mine is a TDIC, and my registration papers say the engine is a J3.Last edited by mikey177; August 8th, 2005 at 09:17 PM.

I’m planning to get an oil change at a gas station near the warehouse then travel it at night to avoid kotong cops (registration wasn’t renewed). I’m refusing to have my first act of proud ownership be having it towed. Thanks and your inputs are most appreciated.

2. Go for the mineral 15w-40 oil. That's fine. Petron is the RevX, Shell is the Rimula or Helix series for diesel engines. Just look at the API rating. The higher the rating, the better. What's weird is that with Shell, I noticed the Helix for diesel is priced cheaper than the Rimula D or X, but the API rating is higher by one level.
3. Strut bars will stiffen the ride as the downside but the upside is better rolling stability. The Sedona has a tendency to wallow as I mentioned in this thread somewhere at the early part, but this is because of its soft ride.
4. Kung walang alarm with central locking, pakabit ka na lang. IMO, nowadays, better with than without.

August 12th, 2005 09:14 AM #367Daco, I revved the engine to 3000rpm to belch out the smoke. When I went uphill, I deliberately kept it in low gear to make it rev hi. Nawala rin ang usok that I normally see. I guess occasional aggressive revving is needed by our engine. It will also help if we clean the air filter every 1000km thereabouts.

August 12th, 2005 01:21 PM #370Congratulations on your choice of car Leolop. Hopefully, if the car was maintained properly, you will have a head-ache free ride. I bought my gray market carnival park II 2003 model from a Korean in September of last year and my faimily and I have not been disappointed with it. I use it as my daily ride to and from Sta Rosa to Makati and it now has 53K+ kms logged. Just maintain it well. I go to Kia Sto Tomas every 5000 km.
