August 16th, 2005 12:31 PM #391Hello Guys,
I strongly recommend NOT to remove the vacumm hose to the EGR Valve. The EGR's job is to recycle some exhaust gas back to the intake manifold to reduce the combustion temp and reduce NO emissions. This is computer controlled so the EGR valve will open on certain throttle conditions.
Unfortunately, when the EGR is working soot will accumulate in the intake manifold. When the soot mixes with the PVC vaporized oil then it will form GUnk. Then you will have smoke in the tail pipe.
To prevent this from happening, Use biodiesel to reduce soot in the exhaust. Then stop the vaporixed oil from entering the intake manifold by adding an oil catch can.
Now Im using the bioexceed biodiesel 1 liter for 70 li fulltank. It significantly reduce the soot in the exhaust. I still have no oil catch can so I just have my intake manifold cleaned once a year.
The result is no smoke and good emission score of 0.86 last June.
tnx

took this photo this morning on the way down kennon road. kennon road is very beautiful this time of year. what with lush vegetation and numerous waterfalls to be seen along the road. downside is the ever present threat of rockslides. the road has more ruts in some sections due to the present monsoon rains. on the trip back to baguio late this afternoon the highway was wet all throughout with some pooled water in some parts of the road. my new dunlops provided good grip and was more confidence-inspiring that the carnival's former hankooks.
mucho thanks to tsikoteer baiskee for my tires!
rodski, can you post the drawings you have of the oil catch can for fabrication?Last edited by diesoline; August 16th, 2005 at 10:26 PM. Reason: edit

great pic, diesoline. parang challenge yata sa iba na maglabas ng digicam and capture those carnival moments. naka-visualize tuloy ako ng shot sa UP Diliman academic oval sa ilalim ng mga acacia habang baha ang kalsada ng bulaklak during summer.
bank finally approved the sale of my carnival and i just might claim it tomorrow, schedule permitting, else friday. bigla akong kinabahan dahil medyo blind jump pagbili ko sa sasakyan. di bale, walang sira na di naaayos (affordably) on a 2 year old unit; this i learned from my 13 year old corolla.

diesoline,
Very nice picture. Parang ang sarap tuloy umakyat sa Baguio. Since we live relatively close to the City of Pines, we sometimes go up there just for a day, usually on a weekend, to hear Mass and visit the park.
altec,
You can upload your photos either to a free image hosting web site like Photobucket or even store them on Tsikot's own Photo Gallery.
If you choose the latter option, you will find the link to the gallery at the top of the forum, it is marked "Car Gallery." (please refer to the following screen shots) After clicking on the link, click on the link marked "Upload Photos" at the right hand corner of the screen. By the way, you have to be logged on to your Tsikot account to do this.
Afterward, you can upload the photo by specifying its location on your computer using the "Choose" button. After you have selected the photo, click on "Upload/Submit." You can add an optional title and description to the photo in the succeeding screen.

Click "Process" when you're done, and Tsikot will upload your photo/s and display your User Gallery.
To find out what the image code for a photo is, just click on the photo. The UBBCode for the photo will be displayed at the bottom. Highlight this code, copy it (click CTRL-C) and paste it into your reply window.

If all goes well, your photo should appear like so
It would help if you edit the photo beforehand in PhotoShop or some other image editing software to reduce its file size and donwloading time. Set the image resolution to 72 dpi for web viewing, and try to keep the entire image visible in a single screen.
Hope this helps.

thanks for the kind words, guys. i never thought that the photo would come out that good. the lcd monitor on the camera didn't do justice to that snapshot. btw, the camera used was a canon s1is.
leolop, i am familiar with the fire tree blossom strewn u.p. diliman grounds during summer. spectacular! a nice time to take that picture would be a sunday morning when streets there are practically deserted. don't worry too much about the initial maintenance you will be doing to the carnival. tlc lang, like victory said a few posts back.
altec, hobbyist ka din pala. i used to be very involved in photography way back in college. i used to be a member of the photo staff of aegis and guidon. pang-advertisement? how i wish.1.5 mb lang ang original file. di pang-professional! but the locale in the snapshot looks like the japanese countryside.
mikey177, thanks for the very thorough run through. i use photobucket exclusively for the photos that i post here. alam mo naman, it's hard to make this old dog to try other ways of doing things. now i can inflict my photos to the tsikot car gallery na. you should try hearing mass at 8:30 am in home sweet home (the old cicm priests' retirement home near u.p. baguio). not too crowded and jacket-friendly temperatures inside the chapel! sunday mass eb gusto mo?
baiskee, dun sa unresampled photo kitang-kita yung valve alignment dots sa tire.Last edited by diesoline; August 17th, 2005 at 05:06 PM.
