    trendy08, welcome to tsikot.com. did the sound not go away during the whole time you ignored it? which service center/mechanic cited those 11 cases? re the steep ramp problem, i usually do as you do. make buwelo. it might be because our minivan is a heavy one. but if it can't be avoided and i am left hanging on a steep incline, i find that the D position better than either L or 2. i also found out that shallow pumps on the accelator work better than flooring it.

    altec, you had that too? update us with what the casa will find out.

    lensio, welcome back! it's great to see your avatar in the thread again. will you put up your carnival/sedona goodies site again?

    mikey177, i can't for the life of me figure out where that card slot is. the only thing i see that is remotely like it is the small bin behind the power window controls. is that it?

    DacoTyan, thanks for the great tip on the coin slots in the cupholder. and it is only now that i realized that the bin below it is for cds! haynaku....

    leolop, try going to your neighborhood vulcanizing shop. bringind down the spare tire cradle is a breeze, it just takes a few turns with a tire wrench. putting it back up is another thing. the vulcanizers have a technique that works a lot better than the one i figured out by myself one cold morning in roadside. hirap i-describe yung technique nila. congrats pala on your new ride!

    Diesoline sa gray market mo ba nabili carnival mo. In Korea 2001 onwards models (CRDI) they remove that card slot and replace it with the one you have. However, yong connection for handsfree phone only works on korean cellphones. That's why export model was not modified.

    OT muna

    Maramin na dito sa kalsada yong new carnival III (a.k.a Grand Carnival). Similar engine J3 but all new fuel injection system. WGT (Waste Gate Turbocharger) which is basically a CRDI with a computerized wastegate control. Meaning boost is now controlled by ECU. Kaya Kia was able to increase the hp of Grand Canival to 170ps

    Some carshop mayroon silang device to reprogram the ECU to change the boost setting resulting in a more increase hp (200ps??). I was wondering bakit hindi nila ginawang VGT type yong Grand Carnival, siguro overpower na tsaka, canival were not design for racing...

    kung titinangnan mo, and development ng turbocharge is really fast. Originally, TCI (Turbocharger Intercooler - obsolete), then come CRDI, after that comes HTI (Highpower Turbo Injection - upgraded CRDI), then VGT (Variable Geometry Turbocharger) and WGT. Pero mas efficient and VGT

    For comparison
    Carnival I/II (1999-2000) - TCI --->135ps 2.9L J3 Engine
    Carnival II (2000-2004) - CRDI --->145ps 2.9L J3 Engine
    Hyundai Santa Fe - 2002 - HTI --->120ps 2.0L engine
    Hyundai Santa Fe - >2003 - VGT ---> 126ps 2.0L engine
    Sorento 2005 --VGT - 175ps --->2.5L engine
    Sorento 2005 --WGT - 145ps --->2.5L engine

    Here's the catch
    New 2005 Kia Pride 1.5L VGT diesel engine ---> 112ps (20km/L)--planning to buy this car, kasi, mahal diesel dito. 1Liter = US$1.10.

    is there another way to check the oil chain instead of listening for a weird bearing related noise? i'm brining my unit to wheels tomorrow for a bumper to bumper check up, may as well mention it to them.

    trendy08, just for the record and future reference, how much did the overhaul set you back?

    It might work if you have the correct plug. Kung ang fone mo has a phono jack type pero ung newer models na Korean fones have different earphone/handsfree jack, parang USB type na sila ngayon.

    In my opinion, it engages the clutch immedietly so it doesn't get to any higher rPM. if this was a manual, we probably get the rpm higher and slowly release the clutch.
    My ATF is Dexron III. I've tried the cheaper ones, ganun pa din. Ganun ba talaga (I'm thinking this is not built for steep climbs unlike the mitsu delica etc...) pero other than that its great on the road, acceleration lalu na when turbo kicks in, brakes, ride comfort. Hope someone can enlighten me.

    thanks in advance!

    Sometimes it's better to come to a full stop BEFORE proceeding up a steep ramp. But if that isn't possible, try to jab the throttle to get it to kick down then gently depress the throttle to 2000 rpm and wait for the transmission to catch up then accelerate as needed. Usually works unless I'm loaded then method #1 is better.

    I going back to Dexron II-D on my next 5000 km check-up.

    Be carefull with the brakes, that's a VERY heavy car you driving now and you need to adjust your braking distance.

    That was a good tip regarding the engine number.

    thanks for the advise about the steep ramps..will try pumping the pedal next time.

    diesoline, it went away the moment that the oil indicator lit. my theory is that the oil chain got broken at that time. that's why there is no noise anymore but no oil going up to the engine too. btw, this was at a kia dealer in mandaluyong.

    costs is "masaklap" but engine is all ok now. little less than 100k. replaced with bnew piston ring, liner, rocker arms, injectors (this is 9k sa casa, 6k sa banawe!! each!!), engine supports, gaskets, oil etc etc..
    some items also could be retained like injectors but opt to replace them since it was not delivering enough fuel anymore (unit was kept for months before I was able to raise the funds, posssibly clogging the injectors) and had a good undergrnd price offer. it caused unsmooth idling which we don't want on a newly rebuilt engine. masama lalu na pag brake in so I replaced it too. this is actually cheap considering na I replaced almost all the vital engine parts. (a little thanks to some underground parts negotiation, even with this, malaki pa rin ang naging cost). its good that I'm out of it na and unit is finally running again

    altec, leolop, good decision to have it checked, that's what I should have done if I could only turn back time...hehe

    for other gray units, I was told na you have to replace the fuel priming pump with the local version, kasi yung korean version daw has a smaller valve or an opening something. not sure how this will affect in the long run. advise was also, replace of filter every 10000kms and replace fuel priming pump every 20000. Not sure sure why they are advising the pump to be replaced din...on my old sentra diesel, got to 170000kms without replacing that, fuel filter lang pinapalitan ko.
    ang hirap kasi, yung owner's manual ko korean version.

    also, tip this sa a/c fan sa front, there is a filter right in front of the glove compartment. if you feel there is not enough air coming out from the vent even if nakafull na yung fan, its probably it. usually, its noisy because air couldn't get out. 50% of the dash would have to be taken out though, but you can do it yourself.
    don't make a mistake of having the a/c system cleaned (evaporator) when all you really need is to clean this filter. almost did have it cleaned sa a/c shot buti na lang I decided to experiment first hehe

    Question:
    how do you get the taillights off for bulb replacement?, I tried unscrewing the two screws visible pero can't get em out. can't reach anything din from the inside (there is something you can open on the rear end where you put your tools)...

    Left my unit in Kia Cebu. I printed out a copy of the overhauled engine that was posted here and gave a copy to the service advisor who used to be the warranty officer for the casa. Was surprised when he said that he knows the owner and was amused that he posted it in the internet. YUP! It happened here in Kia Cebu!! Ayun, naki chismis na rin ako. Very similar to what Trendy said. The local Sedonas were already retrofitted in Korea prior to shipment to the Philippines, so all local sedonas are already ok with the potential fuel pump problem. This happened na rin with the local carnivals, which is equivalent to the park 1 series. But the park 2 series that are imported are still using the old fuel pump design. Kasi yung mga park 2 series are model 2000 only. Yung mga model 2002 or 03 up, inayos na nila sa korea pa lang. So to all you guys using the gray units or the local carnival, watch out for the fuel pump.

    Yung sa akin, yung ingay he suspects to be the tensioner bearing. I asked him ano yung ingay kung fuel pump chain ang problema. Mas maingay daw than what I have.
    Am waiting for his call to inform me kung ano talaga ang problema.

    Trendy, regarding the aircon filter, that was discussed here already several pages back. Try to check it out. But to shortcut it for you, mas may chance na may aircon filter ang gray units. Yung local units, wala. Yung sa akin, wala, tiningnan ko na.

    I forgot to have the manual scanned! Sorry guys, Leolop, and Diesoline! Will try to have it scanned when I get the unit out by one of our office staff and see if it be enough to send via yahoo or if not, via cd na lang.
