diesoline: ayos di ba. nice to see new carnival peeps joining in. i also noticed pinalitan na ang thread title. thanks mods.
i have a question: magkaiba ba ang door handles ng carnival at sedona? pinapalitan ko sa Kia quezon avenue and hindi nila napalitan kasi daw magkaiba ang sa sedona at sa carnival? doesn't look different to me. well maybe from the outside. ininspect ko pa talaga ung sedona sa showroom at yung carnival namin. didn't see any difference.
sir leolop,
a bit more than 3k inabot. refill ng shocks with nitro (all 4, 800/piece FR, 600/piece RR), tsaka palit ng mga bushings ng shocks and torsion bar. 60 pesos lang isa yung sa shock end bushing (sa wheels binili). mga 4 hours ginawa. yung refilled shocks, ok naman sa ngyon running at 32 psi, "mejo" stiff lang naman pag ako lang magisa but I'll not have it adjusted kasi pag mejo loaded tama lang iyon. overall, so far ok yung refill, laking tipid instead of replacing it, ok sa zee.
sir altec,
glad to hear na fuel lang and nothing to do with the injection pump yung problem.
na try mo ba magtanong sa wheels, fronte or seiring? maybe they have the part. oo nga, parang pareho lang naman yung exterior handle.Originally Posted by benchph1

hi peeeeeeps :D i got my carnival yday afternoon.... and guess what..... di na ako naka log in ulit! nandun lang ako sa van! hahahahahahaha i am very thankful for this thread coz everything i wanted to know abt the van is here and it sure did help me decide which van to purchase. lahat ng sinabi nyo dito ay tama! grabe... bilib ako sa inyo! keep this up guys. im sure may ibang mga new comers dyan pareho sa akin na mag benefit dito. thanks!
here are my first few experiences / observations sa carnival ko:
1) di naman sya ganun ka mausok. although pag naka idle sya, mas may usok siyang nilalabas compared to my isuzu pick up. pero when i rev it up naman o ihataw ko, wala naman..... am contented with it
2) i live n a hilly area and when i went home last night, apat kami nakasakay at wala syang problema mag overtake ng petrol cars! ok sya sa power considering na naka econo mode pa ako. ill be currently running on econo so i can compare it with its fuel consumption sa power mode. i will post them as soon as i have the data na. kaso lang, hindi ito daily driver kaya medyo matagal ang mga succeeding fil ups niya.
3) wala ba tayong solution sa rear door para mabuksan ng tao from the inside? my seat configuration is parang crosswind type kasi.
4) i noticed na yung sandalan ng seats sa pinaka likod (yung magkaharap) ay hindi naka sabit sa sidings. dapat ba ito nakasabit? coz i can see na may pwedeng lagyan ng bolt kasi. right now, naka ipit lang yung lower portion nya sa upuan kaya nagagasgas yung sidings sa gilid ng sandalan. sayang talaga coz maraming gasgas! may clip ba to or something?
6) i noticed na pag may lubak na medyo malalim, may unusual sound sa front suspension. pero kung maliit lang na lubak, ok naman sya. naka pagsakay ako ng staex dati and i think yung problema sa friend ko was the torsion bar? ito rin ba ang masirain sa front suspension ng carnival? o puro bushings lang ang problema? any idea how much these costs?
7) the steering is a little wimpy.... not sure if its the right term pero yung tipong hindi sya kapit na kapit when making a sudden turn. eto ba yung sinasabi nyong understeer?
8) any idea how much pa convert ng captain seats sa 2nd row and bench sa 3rd row? kanino ako mag order nyan? salpak lang yun diba?
grabe.... gusto ko na mag sunday pare kalikutin ko na yun! hahahahaha thanks guys and keep it coming!
i betcha all that bisoy won't be posting anything today...bisoy, have fun!
altec: that cebu thing was just a spur of the moment wish. i hope i really do get there within the year. tambak kasi ako sa work lately kaya pati posts ko dito damay. hehehe! but then, that offer of cebu lechon is very hard to resist.methinks i can jumpstart an atkins diet regimen with altec's lechons! altec, baka magulat ka na lang one day that you will see a sedona/carnival caravan parked infront of your doorstep!
I posted this originally in the biodiesel rulez section, and will also post this over at my thread at kotse.com. for the info of my carnival fans here following my biodiesel research.
update ko lang kayo regarding that problem that you read. Last friday, I've narrowed down the problem to the quality of diesel, instead of previous insinuations by parties I talked to that the problem could be from CME. Crosschecking our files when the fuel knock started on my kia, it somehow was in the same time period when my motorpool reported several canters injection pump becoming noisy plus other problems. As we used several diesel suppliers for our overhead diesel tank, we have tentatively pointed our finger to PETRON. When we called up their representative, sabi nila what they supplied us was automotive grade, not industrial grade, at 54 cetane. I called up the Kia advisor to inform him of my theory na nagstart yung fuel knock when I loaded with petron-sourced diesel (twice ako naka refuel from that particular delivery), nagulat ako when he said he also received complaints from other owners of petron diesel being dirty. But it is hard to say it is only petron because we get diesel from 3 different suppliers, whoever quotes us the best rates at that point in time. The fuel knock I suspect is not due to the dumi, pero with the cetane rating. Could be kulang sa 54 ang actual delivery, or 54 is too low for some diesel engines. Kasi the 2nd of 3 suppliers I have reports theirs is 56 cetane.
My motorpool mechanic then showed me a removed 2 month old vic fuel filter that was so dirty, and the diesel we used to wash the filter was also dirty!
Considering that CME or whatever additive we may use purportedly to improve our smoke emissions, the next thing I want to highlight to biodiesel users and would be users, is that if we use unusually dirty diesel (even though it is commonly assumed that Philippine diesel is dirty), the use of CME or any additives will create more problems with fuel filter clogging because CME will clean out these sediments which will be caught by the fuel filter. But if we continue to load dirty diesel, kawawa ang filters natin.
I am going to talk to our diesel suppliers again next week. Before we will reload our overhead tank, we will clean out the overhead tank first to determine the extent of the dirt and sediments.
Another thing we have to worry about- in the course of my investigation, nagulat ako when one of those I talked to, said that he knows a gas station owner who caught one of the delivery trucks deliberately delivering him adulterated diesel. Adulterated with water. Whenever this trucker is used, he is always delayed by almost an hour to travel from the depot to his gas station. When delivered one day, he used his water meter checker and discovered water in the tanker! He eventually found out this trucker would get around 2 carboys (or a total of 40 liters) of diesel, and replace it with 40 liters of water. So when it is pumped into the station's tanks, the total liters will tally.
The point I am driving at is that whether the diesel is watered down, dirty, or adulterated with industrial grade, we will not know until it is too late. And the use of CME may only accelerate the emergence of these hidden problems.
Uy, ang galing niyan kung magkita kita yung mga kotse natin, biro mo as far north as baguio(diesoline) and pangasinan (mikey), to as far south as cagayan de oro (bisoy) plus everybody else in Metro Manila. Originally Posted by diesoline

Actually, I did that atkins thing with some variations over 5 years ago. I lost 25 lbs in 1 month, kasi utos ng doctor to lose weight. I only realized last year na south beach pala yung nagawa kong variation ng atkins. So until now, I enjoy lechon without worrying about gaining too much weight. Di pa hirap ang sedona ko![]()
exterior door handle yung nasira sa akin. 1,200 ang quote ng delta motors west. without installation pa yun.Originally Posted by leolop

7) the steering is a little wimpy.... not sure if its the right term pero yung tipong hindi sya kapit na kapit when making a sudden turn. eto ba yung sinasabi nyong understeer?
the suspension "tuning" of the carnival is biased on the soft side, well it is a people carrier anyway. that explains the body roll you experience when you make a sudden turn.
8) any idea how much pa convert ng captain seats sa 2nd row and bench sa 3rd row? kanino ako mag order nyan? salpak lang yun diba?
dati may promo sa delta motors marikina. conversion from 10 seater to 7 seater configuration: 15,000 pesos all in excluding installation. tanung mo na lang sa mga dealerships.
Hope that helps![]()
diesoline, ang galing mo! di nga ako nag post kahapon! hahahahahahaha super busy pare..... busy para kalikutin yung carnival ko! hahahahahahaha
bench, thanks for the reply pero am in cdo kasi so yung delta motors and zee plus wala sa amin dito. its ok, we have a dealership here and ill check them out. there's also a reputable shop here whom i think ill have my suspension checked.
eto pa pala mga experiences ko guys...
1) i noticed that the 2nd row seats are the swiveling type. pero may nilagay silang lock sa pull-release lever para hindi ma-pull. the lock looks like pwede naman tanggalin. try kong tanggalin one of these days para ma swivel yung upuan. why do u guys think they put a lock para hindi magamit yung swivel mechanism ng benches?
2) hindi ako kuntento sa aircon. hindi naman yung tipong mainit sa loob ng van pero the air coming out from the vent is not that cold in the first place. hindi ko macompare sa ibang carnival vans.... i compared it to my other rides lang. ano sa inyo? freezing cold ba?
:D seriously, may tumulo nga sa upper left windshield. may DIY ba nito like putting a silicon sealant? may silicon sealant kasi ako sa house. i never got to check it out coz sobrang lakas ng ulan. so i jst parked the car nalang.
4) naka econo mode sya ngayon and i noticed that below 2k rpm, ang hina ng response! normal ba to?
5) left side mirror has been changed to an ordinary mirror kaya nakakahilo tingnan. may nabibili bang mirror lang or we have to change the whole assembly?
6) i bought a surplus turbo timer. any of you guys installed one in your ride? any advise? brand pala is FET. have you heard of this? its pretty small lang... about the size of a woman's powder kit pero mas mataba ng konte.
7) i noticed some parts sa engine compartment may tatak na "made in japan"is this normal? heh heh
thanks for reading mga fafi. keep your comments and suggestions coming....
bisoy,
Can you post a picture of the "lock" that you saw for the middle row seat's swivel mechanism. I also can't imagine why anyone would need to put a lock there, unless it's to prevent the kids from playing with the chairs
Regarding the aircon, I've noticed that the front aircon is a bit warmer than the rear aircon. O baka naman kulang lang sa freon; but this too shouldn't be the case since I remember you saying that the previous owner recently had the air conditioning system serviced.
Regarding the leak... yes, there is silicone sealant that can be used on cars, but I haven't tried it personally.
Regarding the side mirror... if you ask the casa, they'll probably say that you need to get the whole side mirror assembly replaced since they don't have just the lens. You could also try asking around at auto supply stores, but be sure you get the correct lens type, as I understand that the RS and LS (Park and Land) variants have different connection points between the lens and the housing.
re sidemirror, i already lost one mirror, it was stolen while I was having a haircut...tsk tsk tsk pero isang side lang nakuha nya.
meron sa banawe 900 yung kuha ko. mostly nakaw din cguro, i was actually thinking na bka sakin din yung binenta. mirror lang ito but there is a wire that you connect at the back of it...para sa defogger ata ito. not sure kung may mga banawe like na street sa CDO. good luck.
bisoy, para saan yung turbo timer?Originally Posted by bisoy
yung sa japan parts...yung transmission nakita ko made in japan, alin pa ba sir yung iba?
thanks for your responses. a turbo timer is simply a device that delays the shutting off of your engine after you pull the key out from the ignition. so if your turbo timer is set at 5mins, pagbunot mo ng susi, aandar pa yan ng 5mins bago nya patayin ang makina.
turbo timer spools faster than our engines crankshaft. when our engine spins at 3k rpm, baka nasa 50k rpm na yung turbine ng turbo. the moving parts need to be lubricated and they are dependent on the engine's oil supply. so sa pagpatay mo ng pagpatay ng makina, nawawala na ang oil supply nya while it is still turning. oil has 2 uses here.... lubrication and cooling it down. so pag on boost ka and bigla mo papatayin ang engine mo, kawawa yang turbo mo. sooner or later, you might need to rebuild it. running your car on idle for a while helps keep cool down the turbo while continuosly lubricating its parts.
kamusta pala fuel mileage nyo boss? have you tried checking it?
thanks for the info abt the turbo timer.
re consumption: 8 sa city driving, or less depending on traffic conditions. 10-11 pag highway.
re aircon: sir bka yung microfilter, see previous posts for more info. if ever you decide to have the evaporator cleaned, bka pwede mo na rin lagyan nung microfilter para mas matagal before linisin yung evaporator. meron sa casa 2k mahigit yung filter, di ko nga alam kung tama yung price, kasi parang papel lang. yung sakin hinuhugasan ko lang kasi parang fabric sya na may screen.
re mirror, sa wheels e rod, meron daw nakadisplay nung mirror lang ng side mirror, so i think meron din sa dealership dyan sa cdo.
may tanong ako carnival/sedona peeps, inaadjust ba valve clearance ng j3 diesel engine natin? o automatic adjustment ito? pansin ko kasi meyo sluggish ang performance ng carnival namin ngayon. been using shell diesoline ultra eversince , tried to mix biodiesel only once or twice (wala kasing time maghalo pa) and i haven't tried the intake manifold cleaning service yet. whatchatink peeps?

I returned the lens to Wheels E. Rod and they discovered that the ones I bought were for the LS Sedona, not the RS --yung sa LS kasi may wires para sa side mirror defogger at iba talaga yung kabitan nya, hindi sya pwede sa RS.
Anyway, I asked if they had lenses for the RS variant, and they said they would just order them since there was no stock available. I waited... and waited... and waited... and after about a year of following up the shipment and getting no assurance as to when it would arrive, I decided to just claim the whole assembly from my insurance company.
hehe sayo pala yun...kala ko the same lang yung side mirrors across all the sedona models..remote din po ba yung adjustment sa RS variant?(bka kaya iba if not remote) it looks the same though from the outside...
re blinking glow plug indicator, ok na, i just re-plugged the two relays and replaced 1 busted fuse, medyo ginalaw ko din yung temp sensor sa may radiator cap. di na nag-blink.
Hope everybody's doing well.
Its been a while since my last post. I was active during 2003, however, have to move back to HK and has been busy.
Anyway, I got my sedona rs since feb 2003 and haven't replaced the tires since. My friend from the casa advised me to replace the tires already. However, he quoted 20K for 5 tires.
Browsing through the posts, it seems most of th guys here uses Dunlop Lemans RV (215/70 R15). I trust the people here, hence I would go for this tyres.
I've got questions.
Would anybody know where to buy these tyres? Price? If you buy from them, would they install it for you? Would it include wheel balancing? Would it void warranty of all the parts of my car.
Am not really a car guru hence, my questions might be out of tune.
Will appreciate any advise or answers on my questions!
Cheers!
