Buying a second hand car especially from a reseller where you do not have direct contact with the previous owner is really a BIG RISK.
With this in mind, and with the help of the people here, second hand buyers like me just have to heed their advices. And the one they keep on reiterating is bring a trusted Mechanic before you purchase the unit.
As second-hand buyers, we could only hope (and pray) that things (car, appliances, etc.) we are buying are in good condition.

In line with this, I brought a friend with me and his Mechanic friend last weekend and we took a look at the Carnival..... he noticed the "kalampag" on the left front wheel and the brakes where you need to step deeply to have an effect.... his recommendations were Replacement of the bushing on the front left wheel, as for the brakes, it needs air and to Bleed might solve the problem, if not he says, mura lang naman daw ung kit. Another thing, he was skeptical at the 46K mileage but then again, maganda pa naman daw ung transmission.
Verdict: GOOD BUY

We are currently working out the deal, and we will be officially a Kia Carnival owner in 3-4 weeks time.
The reseller said, he will be fixing the bushing and bleed the brakes plus replace the bulbs of one tail light and one signal light.
Hoping that these are the only problems.

Thanks everyone!

November 5th, 2005 09:21 AM #782another way to check if somehow the odometer has been tampered:
(but haven't actually seen how these observations work on kia, other brands, yes, except for the isuzu highlander that seems to be wobbling and baluktot ang numbers naturally)
1. At 30-40 kph speed, the speedometer needle wobbles, means either the speedometer cable has been damaged/replaced, or the odometer adjusted.
2. mileage numbers are not perfectly aligned. When recently adjusted, the numbers are aligned. But after a while, it will misalign.

November 5th, 2005 10:14 AM #783Brake pedals that are 'soft' may mean worn out front brake pads or the rear drum brakes needs adjusting. At any rate, it's best you have the front brake pads and rear drum shoes checked.

November 5th, 2005 11:10 AM #784Just FYI, mine is 2000 model and i've only got 46k in my odo. It's a secondary car i only use when i tow my family with me and short trip to office. So it is also possible to have carnivals with low mileage.
Just check with the owner the usual route of travel and frequency of usage,( baka kasi maraming kotse yung may ari kaya di nya rin masyado ginagamit).
But i agree with the all of the previous comments.
This thread is really informative ... i love it. Sana we can really start a carnival group that can meet during weekends or have out of town trips.

November 5th, 2005 09:20 PM #785Altec, i agree with those observation... on top of that, i noticed that the needle is not moving smoothly as you smoothly accelerate. The needle tends to stop or freeze in certain region.
Dacotyan, good advise... it is BEST to check signs of break wearout.
am not an expert in diesel engines, i asked the seller a question... why it the carnival emitting black smoke? He told me " black smoke is normal... white smoke is not normal, white smoke means - engine blow-by". He got me confused. Like to understand white against black smoke? which is better?

November 5th, 2005 11:49 PM #786generic boy, press the link, its from kotse.com

If I could give my two pesos worth, I would look around for another carnival unit and wouldn't rush into buying this particular one. At least you have a choice. Another option is to go to wheels and befriend the service advisor. Maybe he knows of a unit that goes to them for servicing that is up for sale.Last edited by altec; November 5th, 2005 at 11:54 PM.

November 7th, 2005 04:02 PM #787Guys, Help naman diyan. I have been hearing some sound lately in when i turn my steering wheel to the right. This especially occurs when i turn the wheel while partially moving. Kung baga pagnagbu-buwelta na kabig steering na minsan naka tigil. I checked the power steering fluid okay naman siya at walang leak. Tapos yung ingay sa loob mo lang maririnig wala sa labas. Any idea on what could be wrong with my steering?
TIA

November 7th, 2005 05:54 PM #788ericmm, maybe its the power steering pump and the belt that drives it. Check the condition of your fan belt.

KEY DUPLICATION!!!!!
guys, nakailang mr. quickie na ako at iba pang key duplication shops, walang maka duplicate ng susi ng KIA Carnival, any suggestions where i can go?
generic boy, many carnival/sedona owners on the thread are long distance travellers so 10,000 km/yr makes them skeptical. but i just bought mine a few months back and i'm just averaging 500 kms a month with mostly city driving and i use it 6 times a week, so it really depends on how the previous owner utilized the vehicle.
i reiterate my suggestion that if it is possible have the unit checked at the Kia Casa; i find it strange that a seller would refuse this unless they're hiding something. when i was shopping for my unit both the ones i asked said they'd allow it.
the third one didn't and i bought from them, but there were other reasons for jumping that leap of faith (price). if you really can't bring it to the casa, hope you have a trusted mechanic to check it out! good luck!

leolop, so far i have had two duplicates made from my car's keys and both work fine. what is the problem with the duplicates you had made?
Are they on track to surpass last year's sales?
