Remote bypass oil filtration

10k on oem filter? Im sure owner forgot to read manual where it say replace oyl filter every 5k kms.. i hope his engine still runs fine..

The CRDIs esp with crank ventilator and EGR causes very dirty oil.. Even after day1 of change oil with engine flush, you could notice the color is pit black.. Realy goes to show how bad these emission control devices got to do with our engines..

Curious-what if i want to filter it all, no bypass mechanism..
Is it possible to run a secondary filter that automatically switch when it detects filter 1 is clogged?

i meant the omission of 'n' in synthetic. fat fingers, that's no good in the cramp spaces under the hood.

(edit)for the uncanned element type filter, can one tell by appearance that it's still good to go? or should we just follow the periodic maintenance schedule?

That's not a impossible set up, but you would be required to basically run a dual filter system which will not get clogged as long as you keep your intervals as they should be. Main filter to catch all the big stuff second filter to catch all the good stuff.

The only way i see running a set up like that is if you tapped the oil pan or put a T fitting where your oil pressure switch goes because you could not use the standard spin on adapter because it would still bypass the second filter. And you would need to add a pressure switch and solenoid valve to make it all work, Not really needed IMO.

This is all you need to make a bypass kit besides the 1/2" ID hose and barbed fittings.

Spin on adapter with 1/2" npt ports, Your stock filter location is replaced by this and your stock filter screws right back on it.


Then just a filter adapter which screws right on your filter, basically it's a bypass system without loosing the stock filter location. This way is very popular if you don't have a lot of space and don't want to move your stock filter location. Add a oil pressure gauge (not the stocker which is more of just a switch)

Just follow your maintenance schedule, no need to babysit them.

* JMPET626, Royal Purple makes a good filter, It has the microglass media in it, and is Made by Champion labs same makers of Mobil1 and K&N oil filters.




*Edtf, you can cut them open in many different ways, they are just a light gauge metal, A dremel tool works, hacksaw (that's going to take a while) a Bench Vice and a power grinder with a cutting disk will make short work of one. And they make a tool just for doing this, kind of like a industrial can opener. You can also use a reciprocating saw. Knowing how clever some of these shops are that do metal work I bet they could make you a cutting tool.

Thread wise yes, it's a 3/4 16 thread pitch, outer diameter wise also yes, length could be a issue, You would have to check to see if you can spare 2" of space. The LF689 also will work for you.

Yeah many filters can fit the same vehicle folks, The biggest thing that matters is the gasket mounting area and the bypass valve setting. You can always go a bit bigger on your filter. Most people have that extra bit of oil left over after a oil change, your still getting charged for it so you might as well get a larger filter and use it up.

Better filtration is better filtration no matter what vehicle, Just use the filter that matches yours in specs or you can even go slightly bigger. Those with 3/4 16th thread have better options of using the synthetic fiber versions which will give you much less engine wear and extended oil changes on synthetic or you can just keep the same intervals if you want.

Unfortunately the stealerships are PITA with there bs warranty rules, There is no way not using there low quality oil filter should void your warranty but anything they can do to force you to use them I guess.

I agree I would rater use an industrial filter for non industrial application besides Manila environment is pretty harsh too so better use industrial grade materials.

Hmmm.... can we get a bit off topic?: how about air filters?? We all know Manila is one of the dustiest/dirtiest places in the world

looks like it is better to get paper filters and just change it often. I was pretty surprised in how dirty the air filter got in roughly 3mos (my usual change oil interval) it made me think of putting a pre cleaner on a snorkel (vehicle is an SUV) but the distributor of fleetguard doesn't carry it here

Your engine will inhale more dirt and dust, you can't have big gains in airflow without sacraficing that fact. But will it cause any measurable harm to your engine, No not really. I have run them for years on different vehicles. I moved away from them for no oiled filters like Somota, They are cheaper flow almost as well and I don't have to oil them. Not paying 3000P for a air filter.

But to each his own, I normally throw the stock airbox in the garbarge on any vehicle I own and do a conical air filter. I have not used a paper air filter since like 1990.

By the way the old panty hoses air filter pre-clearner trick is cheap and works very well in high dust enviroments.

No free lunch I guess, these "real world" tests seem to support common sense, that more flow = less filtration and vise versa.

All the more reason for a good oil filter, That extra dirt is going somewhere and most likely your oil. No down side to better filtration.
