January 18th, 2011 07:56 PM #601Mga fellow tsikoteer good day. Nababasa ko sa mga trend na to, sabi nila papa takbo ng 100km/h eh still slow. For me driving at 100km/h is tama lang yun speed na yon, nag drive lang ako ng 120km/h kapag nag mamadali lang ako sa pupuntrahan ko. Di kaya akala nila 100km/h, feeling nila mabagal ang takbo niya kasi malawak ang highway. If driving at more than 120km/h comsumes more gas at mahuhuli ka ng overspeeding. Nahuli ako sa SCTEX nung July last year. Natubusan ako ng P1200 at sa East ave ko kinuha yun lisensya ko. Driving at 100km/h ok na yon. About gas comsuming, read Botchi santos' column at Top gear mag. And
kapag nag drive ako ng 100km/h sa NLEX na maaraw eh feeling ko ang bagal ko and kapag gabi naman ay ang bilis. Or parehas lang?

The perception of speed being "fast", "normal", or "slow" are personal experiences which cannot directly translate between people effectively. What is slow for you is fast for the next guy.
If you want to take the SCTEX and save fuel, then drive at 50 to 60 kph because that is the most efficient speed most cars on the road will drive. Yet we are stuck with an arbitrary number someone thought of using on a highway that would be better if the speed-limit was just 20% faster.
As for me, I would rather burn more fuel to get to my destination faster/quicker. How much faster? Between Manila and Subic, "normal" 100kph driving takes 2 hours. My driving took me only an hour.
BTW, although the SCTEX/NLEX has a speed limit of 100kph, you are NOT required to travel at 100kph. You can actually drive s..l..o..w..e..r if you are really serious about wanting to save fuel.
As for driving "perceptions" during day and night, it is normal to slow down at night because of limited visibility. The same goes when its foggy, stormy, sandstorm or whatever conditions that limit visibility of the road.Last edited by ghosthunter; January 18th, 2011 at 09:01 PM.

Never got caught on the expressways so far.
Before my radar detector, I learned how to spot the radar camera vehicles from a distance or slow down to legal-ish speeds when approaching blind curves or rises on the expressways.
I still do those and the detector just gives me another set of "eyes" to spot them.
My speeds (in my Project Sentra SR car before) were from 150 to 220 kph.

January 19th, 2011 12:51 AM #605I was caught by this MNTC police dog, i was doing 194kph daw, had it been 120kph palulusutin nya daw ko, sabi ko bakit yung Altis na hinabol ko hindi niyo hinuli, He answered boss, nahuli rin po siya sa Concepcion and he showed me the picture of my Altis i was telling him and my Strada
There was a snapshot pic of my front, with my plate number (wow so clear hindi blurred), car side to emphasize its color and and the back, then written below the every photos are the digital print out of my speedometer reading caught by their radar. Walang lusot! F$%k bayad ako sa LTO Central Office 950 pesos para walang seminar, he offered me another option, instead of my license he would rather remove my plate for a longer redemption period of 7 days, pag license kasi 3 days lang tutubusin mo na. Of course with a gruesome amount of 1,500
Hayyyyy! Kainis, sarap kasi humataw, bulsa ko nahataw, pain in the ass! So guys random lang sila manghuli and this time my friend in another car naman ang nadale pauwi from Baguio, so its true lightning always struck on the same place but on a different time and victim!

^^ This is why you have to be on the look out for those NLEX/SCTEX patrol vehicles. They are unmarked white AUVs (or pickups for the SCTEX) parked on the side of the highway or on top of overhead crossings. On the SCTEX, you can see them a long way ahead on the long straights, just be careful on the blind rises on some of these long straights.
For those who can afford it, a good radar detector can be a great backup to your own eyes.

I think 100-120kph is safe para di kayo mahuli..

I already saw several speeding pictures and they all are taken in almost the same area and I also heard a handful of stories of people who got apprehended and suprisingly yung area of apprehension eh hindi rin nagkakalayo layo....so I already know where I should slow down and speed up if the urge is there hehe
just 2 pieces advice...pag nakita nyo yung road sign na speed is being monitored by the radar magmabagal ka na....then after a KM or 2....larga ka na ulit...
and with regards to the unmarked roving patrols....basta may nakita kayong crosswind XL na white or innova J na white din na heavily tinted....mag slow down nadin kayo...
drive fast, SAFELY!
