Yes sir. Not pointing any fingers and no offense meant to fast drivers, but there is a proper place for us to test the speed of our rides - that is the track.

There is a reason that the speed limit is at 100kph on our highways. And the reason is, the road is designed as such. Doing some research online, I found that there is such a term as design speed for highways.

For a 100kph road, this means that the angles of the highway, along with the curves and lane markings, are designed such that the safe running speed is 100kph regardless of the driver's reflexes. Yes I will agree you can have lightning fast reflexes even while running at 140 or 160kph. But the driver of the car beside you may not. The driver of the car in front of you may not. The result is usually an accident or an accident waiting to happen. I've been running around the NLEX daily for the past 6 years and I've seen several accidents (thankfully none that involved me or my family) and it is heartbreaking when you find out that someone lost a dad, or an elder brother, or an uncle, or a son because of some speed freak running past the speed limit and either lost control of the vehicle or did not have enough braking distance when the car in front of him suddenly hit the brakes.

Design speed is based on the capabilities of cars during the period that the road was built. Heck, RA 4136 states that the maximum speed for a major road such as EDSA is 50 kph, but that's because the law is outdated.

Given the road conditions of NLEX, 100-110 kph is a reasonable limit for most people given the capabilities of cars today and the volume of vehicles that normally traverse the highway. SCTEX and TPLEX should allow for 120-130 kph.

People antagonize going past the 100 kph speed limit as if it was such a bad thing, but really, it's your driving demeanor that causes accidents. You can stay under 100 kph but be an asshole swerver that catches others off guard and start multi-car pileups. Trucks going at 50 when everyone else is doing 100 also causes traffic congestion that leads to swerving, cutting, and even collisions in the case of people who have reflexes slower than what their speed requires (even if they're only going at 80).

Knowing what to do in cases such as tire blowouts are also more important than sheer speed. My batchmate died even if their van was only going at 70 because her dad who was driving slammed on the brakes when they had a tire blowout. The van's door opened and flung my batchmate around a tree. A good driver who was going at 120 but who knows how to react in emergency situations (and knows how to lock doors and make his passengers wear seatbelts) would've avoided that.

And just because you're past the speed limit doesn't mean you don't take into account the reflexes and possible actions of the cars around you in case of lost control. Some do drive at high speeds with reckless abandon, but not everyone.

Again, not saying that speeding is completely fine - there's still the law and you still deserve to get fined when you get tagged. But more than just fear of the law, people should respect their own driving capabilities first and only drive at a speed that they can be completely in control of the car even in emergency situations.

Back to speed guns, I think I've found where exactly along the Sta. Rita stretch of NLEX the taggers are. Based on the pic sent to me, it's along that 1 km stretch of road with yellow poles sticking out the side of the road. There was an overpass in that area, so it's quite likely that the traffic guys are stationed there.

Normally andun sila sa ibabaw ng tulay sa tabang exit after sta rita. Minsan naman sir dun sa ilalim ng mga overpass naka hinto lang doon.

Bro,- I think it is the standard P1,000+ for the fine,- plus half-a-day of seminar/test (well, including travel if you are from the Metro,- one day abala).... Nope,- I've never been to that LTO in Lipa....

Quick question, if you put on a bigger diameter tire compared to the stock ones, it affects your speedometer reading right? A bigger tire will show a slower speedo reading?

yes sir kaya yung mga "ilang" nagpapapalit pinapa-calibrate yung speedometer nila.

Yung circumference ng new tires ko is 2% bigger than the old tires. This means when speedometer shows 100 kph, I am actually travelling at 102 kph. Small difference lang so safe pa rin.

I heard they have a +10% tolerance sa overspeeding for speedometer error so safe ang 110kph. I could be wrong so i still say within the speed limit hehe

+1 Between Bacoor and Kawit may guard towers pero mukhang dedma lang ang bantay and it looks like they don't have a speed gun. I usually hit 140 on that stretch for a bit of Italian tuning up. Watch out for crosswinds though.
