In my case, from 205/65/R15 to 225/55/R17; I went for this set up since I saw OEM toyota 17s fitted with 225/55 at Toyota Otis, but +50k and no trade in on the orig. set of shoes.

    Thanks

    gil
liv is right, the optimum is +/- 3%. You should keep to the original diameter of the original tire as much as possible. Your 225/55 R17 diameter is actually 4.7% larger resulting in a speedometer variance of around -5%. This means if your actual speed is 100km/hr your speedometer will show around 95km/hr only.

What's with changing the size of tires from the stock anyway? Is it for the benefit of the vehicle's performance and comfort OR for aesthetics only? .

Thanks mam liv and sir d4nt3, I'm not that concerned on the speedometer, but rather on the odometer reading, will there be a -5% also?? I would like to compute for my fuel consumption kasi...

    Leinatan & wakin,

An honest answer will be "looks" primarily hehe, but proper plus sizing has lots of advantages from road grip, braking & better ride. Stocks are ok, since it is designed by toyota , but they usually go for the most economical set up, and geared for general/majority of users.

the logic is kinda like upgrading to HID, K&N filter, headers, free flow mufflers, sports tuned suspension, sa diesel naman increasing boost sa turbo or adding/upsizing the intercooler.

Michelin is always a good buy at any price.

For the Bridgestone Turanza and Potenza, both are very good tires. But note that each has different intended application. Ultimately, your choice would depend on what kind of look you want to achieve, or, what kind of functionality you're looking for.

The Potenza is Bridgestone's line of high performance tires. It's not as durable as other tires, and it's not expected to be. Potenza has excellent road grip necessary for racing but at the cost of having softer rubber compound. Notice also that the thread depth is also shallower. There's extra pogi points here.

The Turanza is categorized as touring tires and is intended for long drives. It's rubber compound is harder than performance tires, but softer than ordinary passenger tires. The thread pattern is not agressive (actually boring) but the depth is deeper.

I've used Turanza tires before, and what I can tell you is it's very quiet. The ride is smooth and the grip is very good. It's a nice all around tire with good all-weather performance. Those set lasted almost 3 years. They're still good, but my front left tire sustained a sidewall puncture (nalubak sa corner ng EDSA & Taft, tumama yung side ng gulong sa matulis na gilid ng pothole). I decided to replace all four, better safe than sorry.
sir d4nt3: thanks for the very enlightening info. i chanced upon a review that concurrs with your assesment between potenza and turanza tires. People in india actually like turanza more than potenza series due to the road conditions they have there, which are quite similar to ours. Luckily, the 2nd hand rims i got comes with 1year old turanza tires, thou it's with a lower profile only. will try to fit it and try to assess its good points. i used potenzas before sa revo ko, and the ride became better. michelin tires really are good, maybe i'll get a set of latitude hp after i use up the remaining thread sa turanza. thanks again sir!

I have to agree with sir gil. I change stock wheels (tires and rims) for 3 reasons: to improve ride quality and stability (softer ride and more stable feel), to increase ground clearance/ride height (due to the places i have to go to & floods i have to go through ), and basically change or improve the appearance (not that the stock wheels look bad) or simply to make the ride look unique and different from other units. Still, i do it in a practical way. I use up the stock tires before selling/trading away the rims and what's left of the old tires before buying new shoes. That's my take on the matter. Pero siyempre, to each his own.

And i'm also concerned with what is being asked by sir gil re: effect on odometer reading of changed tire specs. Thanks in advance to the replies.

This is to quote a line from the article mam liv posted:

"When changing tire sizes, we recommend staying within 3% of the diameter/height of the original tire. Any more than this and you face the risk of brake failure."
Be wary guys when changing your tire sizes. You may come on or off within the recommended allowance. Safe driving!

On synthetic versus mineral, I did also mineral to synthetic and back to mineral for up to 35K PMS but since I'm using LPG fuel now I switched back to fully synthetic for extra engine heat protection. Bottom line is when you do high performance driving or modified engine setup then go fully synthetic for extra protection, if you are just using your car as daily car without passengers and no extra high revs then mineral oil will suffice

Toyota gave us stock engine filled with mineral oil, so it means mineral oil is best for our engines, not unless you do modification like mine

Shell oil? Casa don't allow other oil and oil filter besides their own.

Gud day to all innova owner, thanks again MILe2 for that info. I would like to add some more information regarding my usage of my innova diesel. I live in Bulacan and I work in quezon city every day i use NLEX to go to work with driving speed range 90km to 120km. I would like to know if this is extra high revs driving already and another thing I read on some review on turbo charge diesel engine that synthetic oil are being recommended.

There are 3 modes of the dome light switch:
    1) ON - Light will lit regardless if any of the 5 doors are open or closed
    2) OFF - Light is disabled even doors are open
    3) DOOR - Light will lit when any of the 5 doors are open only.

So which mode are you referring to? In any case, I would assume you are referring to No. 1 or perhaps No. 3. If that happens, it could be a busted or loose bulb. Check the bulb by prying open the dome cover and have it replaced if it is indeed busted.

Try mo push-release door switches on all doors like the one in the pic.

It could be the common (-) connection.

Obviously, from the description you said....you have a defective dome light switch.

It is very unlikely, that all your door switch is defective as they are all connected in parallel. You can have one door switch defective but never all of them. If you open all doors and the light is still not on, then obviously your dome light switch is defective.

You can pry open the dome light if you are a DIY guy or you can have it check at Casa, during your PMS to save on gas going there.

Gup pm to all innova d4d users, ask ko lang po kung what type of oil you guys use, synthetic or mineral. kc i got this advise from a SA of toyota that with synthetic oil we can extend the interval of change oil up to 10,000 km. Do some of you guys practice this maintenance and musta naman performance ng innova nyo. Thanks
