Had just bought my innova j d4d last July 06 and is now approaching 5k kms. SO FAR SO GOOD! Coming from a 2000 GSR, the innova has lots of space and the ride height is a blessing. Power is adequate and response is not really that much slower compared to the GSR. I average 11-13 KMS per liter mixed city and hiway driving. You've got one satisfied owner here. Hopefully the d4d woes is now a thing of the past! Knock on wood!

Fuel consumption is my top priority 'coz I'm getting the unit thru our company's car loan program and I can't afford to spend more on the fuel than to the monthly amortization I will get. I'm 6 feet tall, 200 lbs, and a large body frame that's why innova was my first choice but since I've read some negative comments about d4d engines last year which I didn't have read anything recently I'm now reconsidering again the Innova. I intend to use the car for my daily trip to work and home that is around 30 kms back and forth. I just got my wife as passenger and no kids yet newly married here but once in a while my parents and in-laws come to visit us. Please Can someone here give me advice 'coz I can't afford to gamble on my hard earned money. My budget is only 700t but I can stretch it for the innova j if its worhty. Thanks so much.

GREAT CHOICE! innova is a wonderful vehicle....i have one! night mist a/t gas acquired feb. last year. 30 k na sa odo. interior space was also a major selling point for me as i'm also quite tall at 6'1'' 220 lbs. leg room by the 2nd row seats are still ok even with my seat fully pushed back. i use it as a daily ride bringing kids to school and to my office. daily 60 km trip total. mixed hi-way and city gives me a 8-9 km/l consumption.

but in your case, i think the innova's size would be an overkill considering it's only you and your wife riding. and with the innova's consumption, you're better off with a sedan if indeed your priority is fuel efficiency. there are so many options with your budget specially if you're not the "JAPAN" lang mentality. take a good look at the ff. vehicles before you make a final decision.

    1. ford focus 1.6......selling for 700k ata and very impressive ang features! if volvo had an entry level sedan, this would be it!

    2. kia rio hatch .....agent told me possible price would be around 620-650k. test driving the rio sedan gave me a surprise as the 1.4 engine was really peppy! the hatch is a tad more luxurious compared to the sedan.

    3. mazda 3...ganda yan...lalo na if you get the 5 door hatch...around 750k ata.

    4. jazz.....cheaper at 650k but if you want some comfort get the cvt 1.3 at 690k.

good luck with your car hunting and hope the pointers help!

If you change oil every 5 km, use the mineral oil.

I think I read somewhere in this forum from a poster who has a Japan-trained mechanic friend who said that more frequent oil change, even with the use of mineral oil, is much better than less frequent oil changes with fully synthetic oil.

This is what I do also. :D That's why its not so painful to change oil more frequently even if I dont reach the proper mileage coverage for a PMS.

Higit ng isang buwan so far so good.

hi. my opinion: go for the innova. innova j d4d ang amin. acquired april 2005. so far okay naman. recently married din ako and no kids yet. kami lang ni misis. sulit ang interior space. iba pa din ang maluwag sa loob ng sasakyan. lalo na kung gigimik kayong mag-babarkada or kung madami kang dalang bagay-bagay (eg. badminton stuff). kapag pumupunta sa bukid sa probinsiya, ang sarap kumain sa tailgate ng innova (kapag mainit at maaraw, may instant shade ka; kapag umuulan naman e parang naka-payong ka na din).

havent confirmed this pero one car-nut i spoke to told me he measured the innova and the altis, and allegedly, ilang inches lang ang lamang ng innova (exterior-dimension wise). pero sumakay ka ng altis at sumakay ka ng innova. ibang-iba ang luwag sa loob ng innova. therefore, walang problema sa maneuverability (kasi nga halos same size lang ng altis) pero patok ka naman sa interior space.

plus iba ang feeling ng mataas at maluwag na sasakyan kapag nasa traffic ka. you will feel less "helmed-in" kumbaga. and, mas mataas pa vantage point mo. iba talaga.

plus plus, paano kung in one year e magkaroon ka na ng anak? at least ready ka na with your innova di ba?

so my vote goes to the innova. good luck. balitaan mo kami anong binili mo.

dagdagan ko pa: since pro's and con's pala ang gusto mo, here goes...

ang pangit lang sa innova j variant e no power windows at no power mirrors. yung central locking at alarm, aftermarket ko na ipinakabit. kapag magbabayad ka ng toll fee sa slex, nakakainis na walang power window. or kapag papasok ka ng parking building, nakakapagod mag-crank ng windows. yung d4d engine (dahil diesel) e mas maingay sa gasoline engine. so, baka manibago ka. (eventually makakasanayan mo din.) some people say na parang sobrang bland daw ang door ng j-variant (walang rubber like the G-variant). also, compared to a regular sedan, mas matagtag ang innova (most suv's naman talaga mas matagtag e compared to a sedan).

pero what are you getting in return?...

yun lang. to this day, sobrang happy ako sa decision namin to get the innova. i drove the innova to lipa (batangas) and i arrived at the destination fresh. not tired at all. ang saya pa ng drive kasi madaming pwede sumabay sa iyo.

hth and again, good luck on your choice. balitaan mo kami.

Korek, i can live without power mirrors pero sobra hassle nga ng no power windows. Up until now im still trying to find an aftermarket power window for our J. Btw, I also love the way it handles rough road..

pero kung papipiliin ako between power mirror and power windows, no contest. power windows siyempre.

pero, like i said, kapag dumaan ka na sa baha (which is pretty much a certainty living in metro manila), laking ligaya mo na naka-innova ka hehehe

    curious lang ako...

is the innova fuel (gas) consumption more thriftier than the previous Revo models na pinalitan ng innova? whats the fuel consumption of both gas and diesel innovas ?

for those who previously owned a gas variant Revo and now owns an innova (gas), what were your observations on fuel consumption? i know the innova has a more comfortable ride due to its new suspension against the suspension of revo... but other than this what are other improvements?
    thanks!

    ehw953,

Take it from me , I have an Innova E since last April 2005, I just had my 20K PMS no problems except my HU (MP3) which was replaced last month. For your information best seller ang Innova more than 1200 units a month since last year at 90 % D4Ds. Totalling at least 20000 units so far and still increasing. What do you think the competition will do? e di black propaganda, if you read the innova engine woes wala pa sa 10 ang nagka problema, pero the way they present it akala mo majority na. So please decide logically and use your analytical skills before you buy a car.
