February 7th, 2006 10:37 AM #973Hello to everyone,
Just go my ride last jan27,06. 2nd hand local version of Carnival LS Dsl 2002.
I was not able to fully test the unit when i inspected it last 15jan06, my friend refered me to a distant relative who was selling the Carnival so i was pretty much confident on the state of the unit. Mileage is 49+Tkm when i got it.
After we exchanged bank check and unit at BPI ortigas i was so excited that i did not notice the lack of power (kulang sa arangkada) when i drove it back to the office in Eastwood. This was my 1st time to really own a car and drive. My excitement just made me disregard the lack of power. The friend who refered me, had plans to go to batangas the next day. And i went to there house in Montery hills San Mateo. The road was steep and this time i release took notice of the lack of power even in gear 2. My friend inspected the unit and found out that the hose coming from the turbo was disconnected. After reconnecting the hose POWER was back. Yes.
The previous owner must have forgoten to attach the hose proper when they remove the turbo to stencil the engine no.
The ride to batangas was great, engine was in very good condition, suspension was also very good. WOW the interior size of the Carnival was awsome. My friends only had praises.
So the trip (test drive) was a success. Estimated mileage around 8k/liter.

February 7th, 2006 09:51 PM #974Bongh, welcome and glad to hear positive feedback on your unit... buti at nakita mo ung disconnected hose. I hope it's not the EGR valve, kasi parang injecting air directly to combustion chamber and bypassig the air filter.
Noticed that you work in EASTWOOD, i hope its in Quezon City or near Citybank. Kasi dito rin ako work. If you have time maybe we can meet and exchane comments or ideas, specially on smoke belcher... been working some time on how to minimize it.
Cheers!

February 8th, 2006 02:19 PM #975Regarding tires I am using Yokohama (forgot the model) and its OK. I also used Fortera before but I found the ride uncomfortable. To those with Hankook tires (stock) palitan nyo kaagad. Two of my stock Hankook tires exploded, once in NLEX nung di pa na-rehab and once in SLEX. Di pa naman sila kalbo nun. Sa dinami-daming lugar na masabugan expressway pa, hirap magpalit dun.
My carnival will be getting a respite soon. Magiging service car na siya ni misis since I just got a Dmax LS (labs ko talaga ang diesel). Kaso baka transmission ang bumigay since AT ang ginagamit ng wife ko, MT yung carnival. Anyway, at nearly 130K mileage in 4 years the Carnival's performance exceeded my expectations.

Maintainance done on the unit.
Wheel Aligned (front)
Underchassis wash - Need to do new undercoat the original coating already thin. Done at shell station.
Engine wash - done at shell station. After the engine wash the Oil warning light does not light-up after key turned to ON. Before washing this was working properly.
My Parking Brakes does not work. Put the get in neutral on a inclined road, engaged the parking brakes and it did not prevent the car from moving.
Can somebody help me on this?
Also am going to change the tires so what do you recommend aside from
Dunlop Le Mans
Yokohama
Undercoating paint - what do you recommend? 3M or Zeebart
How much does Wheels E.Rod charge for a full maintenance inspection only.
Kia Casa?
My Carnivals mileage is 49.8t km, do you recommend i change the following:
Oil pump chain
air filter
fuel filter (recently replaced, 6-8mo ago)
Timing chain
A/T oil & filter
Sometimes i experience no sound coming out of my Carnivals Horn (busina).
This happens when i use it a few times when the engine is not running and after a while no sound. But after a few minutes the engine is running, i can get sound again. Is it a sign of my batteries are not good and needs replacement?

The parking brake is adjustable. Any shadetree mechanic can do that for you. Cable operated siya parang sa bike.
The horn relay may be faulty.

bongh:::
+1 to what Otep said. What I've noticed with my Sedona is that after about a year, the parking brake doesn't maintain a good grip anymore, so I have it adjusted yearly (my unit is almost 4 years old with 122,000-km mileage).
Regarding the tires: none of the shops in our place carried Dunlop Le Mans anymore so I chose the Dunlop EC201 model instead. The performance of the tire is okay; I've been using them for about a month now and they provide good road traction, especially on highways.
You can probably ask for a quotation from Wheels E. Rod before you have your unit inspected. Mabait naman mga service advisor doon, pero toxic din sila kung minsan kaya kailangan nakatutok ka with regard to promised delivery time of the unit after servicing.
I replace my air filter every 5,000-km because it gets very dusty here in the province.
The Sedona manual recommends that the fuel filter be replaced every 40,000-km, but other forumites replace it more frequently, since it is a relatively inexpensive way to ensure that you're getting clean fuel to your engine.
Nagpalit ako ng timing belt at 80,000-km, though the casa recommended doing the procedure at 70,000-km. Hindi pa ako nagpalit ng oil pump chain; baka next week kung makapunta ako ng QC.
P.S.
