    any update on this, mikey177?

    is the switch itself broken or it does it not operate at times? imo, the greater problem would be if a part of the switch's plastic body is broken. but if it's the latter, contact cleaner plus a nifty electrician might help.

And before the car stopped running, the last thing I've heard was the sound of scratching metal parts in the engine. I know the damage was great pero hindi ko alam kung bakit nagkaganon. No choice but to have the car towed hanggang sa bahay - malapit lang from manila to alabang. To cut the story short, we spent worth 50K for the parts (crankshaft costs 24K - la pa sa goodgear kaya sa casa bumili , connecting rods - 2 ata yung naputol, and others).
    loss of power usually means overheating, most probably attributed to inadequate coolant or engine oil. your engine meltdown would not have occured if you had checked it sooner and had not continued to drive on. 10 km from UST in any direction is a long, looong way. any brand of car engine would have been damaged too had it been subject to the same adverse conditions.

    this is a new issue for me. the timing belt cover is plastic. if the serpentine belt snaps at speed, the flailing belt is sure to damage something inside the engine compartment.

    that means that the a/c dryer needs to be replaced.

    Hi diesoline.

    I just got my Sedona back from Kia Pangasinan.

    They replaced the clutch disk, clutch cover, release bearing and pilot bearing. My total bill was P13,000, including labor. The job took 2 days to accomplish.

    I have driven the van around 40 kilometers since I got it, and I have noticed that the unit shifts more smoothly now, and the shuddering sensation when moving forward from first gear has completely disappeared. All in all, it looks like they did a good job. The new parts are covered by a 6-month warranty.

    P.S.

    Kia Pangasinan is now owned by the Laus Group, which also runs the casa for Hyundai and Ford in Dagupan, so maybe that explains the apparent improvement in technical expertise of the staff.

    Hmmm, a 19,000-km odometer reading on a 5 year old vehicle seems too good to be true. I would suggest going over the van very well to determine if it really is in good condition, and if its condition is consistent with its mileage reading. Also, you didn't mention what the price was

    nga pala, price is 500 thou. My former car was a diesel adventure 2001 mdl somwat familiar wid diesel engines. The Sedona is not the crdi yet dats why I can say it sound quieter than xuvi. My family wanted the sedona but i'm still apprehensive bcoz of its resale value altho i'm intending to have it for good,sana. Please your comments.This Sedona has sunroof, gold color, no dents just some very minor scratches.

    i understand mikey177's reservation about the 19k odo reading (mikey and i can log that in less than six months ). digital odometers can be tampered with nowadays so you can throw the reliability of those odos out of the window.

    re the resale value, that should be the least of your problems. think of the poor soul who is selling you that sedona: he is willing to take a 650k loss on his original investment 5 years ago. if ever you are going to sell that same sedona for 250k three years from now, you are still better off.

    mikey::: i've been to kia dagupan several months ago to inquire about an engine stencil service. the work area behind the very small showroom is surprisingly spacious and relatively breezy. i hope the laus group will do well there. btw, that group also handles bmw in pampanga.

    thanks for the info, impliedly odo rdng is not reliable. Is there a way of knowing an odo has been tampered? I am presently using my son's car and he's coming back next month (he's a seaman) so I have to buy a new car for myself any suggestion pls for a 550 thou budget

    dani0752, the next time you inspect a car, try to get a digital picture under the instrument cluster on the dashboard. inspect the photo for screws (usually philips head) that looked like they have been loosened before. usually the signs that you look for are screw heads that have a little deformity or paint chipped off. if you do see some, that is an indicator that the dashboard cluster has been worked on.

    dani0752:::

    If the van still has the original brake and accelerator pedals, try checking these for wear. At 19,000 km, dapat hindi pa mukhang pudpod ang pedals na ito. If you're looking at an MT, also check for wear under the carpet/matting where the clutch pedal is.

    utakabo:::

    May mas malaking version ba ng mga photos ng project nyo? I tried clicking on them, but they are not linked to larger images at present.

    utakabo::: That's a good-looking audiovisual setup you put together. May I ask how much the damage was? Does the audio pass through the auxiliary jack and come out through the van's speakers? What brand of player and LCD screens did you use, and how is their performance so far?

    dani0752::: Just check your user manual to determine the minimum specifications for the engine oil, and check these against the oil you plan to use. Also, it is important to stick to the preventive maintenance schedule --change oil every 5,000 km or 3 months, whichever comes first.

    I have been using Shell Rimula-X on my Sedona for around 3 years and, judging from the van's performance, it appears to be a good choice.

    Several pages back I reported that I had broken the driver side sliding door handle on my ride. Well, last week my son broke the handle on the other side. Buti na lang andyan si Jay Castillo to the rescue --I was able to source parts for the Sedona and Starex from him, and it saved me a trip to Banawe, which was good for me because I had a thousand and one things to attend to when we went to Metro Manila last weekend.

    Anyway, just a reminder for you guys to be gentle when opening the sliding doors. The plastic handles will give way and break near the area secured by the front pin if handled too forcefully.

    The brand is pensonic and it cost me 8k at raon (package:player and 2 lcds). A similar set i saw in an octagon computer shop (axion brand) is around 14K+.

    yes audio is through the auxilliary jack and into the stock stereo(i used to pass it through a cassette adopter but i am not satisfied with the output so i installed the jack). Performance is good, i am actually tempted to say great, the dvd keeps my two bulinggits occupied when we travel. I can also play mp3 songs now when the kids are not around.

    the only additional cost i incurred during the installation is from the plexiglass that i used as a base for the dvd player (173Php for 10"x18" rectangular piece - this also gives me idea how much those registration plate protectors are overpriced) and the jacks (male and female jacks which cost me less than a hundred). i attached the base to the stand (comes with the package, but they're suppose to be for the lcd) which i screwed to the driver's seat. this set-up allows me to fold the player up and down.

    all i all the project costs 15K, 8k for the hardware, 300 for the accessories and the 6700 for the labor (mahal ang professional fee ko e, charge ko kay misis hehehe )

    btw, tnx for the praise mikey!

    i have a little concern though, i feel a little vibration on my steering wheel whenever i hit speeds more than 80 kph. it seems the vibration is coming from the engine as the sound from it is a little loud when at this speeds (although parang hindi naman hirap, i can feel the acceleration even when i hit 100 kph).

    another concern is the smoke, i can see the smoke from my rearview when i hit 3000 rpm and above. i am planning to add biodiesel on my next fill up, hope this minimizes the smoke

    TIA
