i change my air filter every oil change.

I just got into this forum last January and also i got my 2nd hand Sedona last November about a week before my birthday. Its a mid 2002 Sedona LS. 2.9TCI rotary direct injection (not CRDI).

Its exciting to have this car. A lot of areas to watch out. But when we do take good care of it, its one damn good car. One of the reasons for some people about Korean cars is largely because they take their "K" cars for granted. had it been a Honda or an Isuzu, they would just be going back and forth to the casa to maintain it.

Last Sunday for example, i realized that i have a missing "Gas" cap. Nasanay kasi ako na yung previous Jap car ko may sabitan ng Gas cap sa lid. Since wala, nilagay ko sa top near the spoiler. Yun nahulog...nawala. This morning used the yellow pages to scout for one, a friend of mine wanted to give me a spare from his old trooper but it had a "gasoline" mark on the cover so wag na! delikado. Went finally to Fronte Motors, got one just for P130.00 original KIA with part number, hologram etc. See, we can do many things to keep our Kias in top shape. Next stop? Microfilter for the aircon, naubusan nga lang sila. P420.oo yun, so next time na lang...

Nanotech, i agree with you the Carnival is one heck of minivan.
Price information for fuel cap and microfilter is very helpful. Heres more
>3M rubberized paint - for underchassis protection 1gallon 820php but there is a cheaper one at 280php not 3M. Carnival needs 2 gallons.

Sched ko pa PMS checkup before end of this month. d ko pa kasi na pa inspect sa Casa after i bought it last 27jan06.
Also my speedometer is not working (odometer & trip meter OK). Sabi sa akin ng Fronte sensor type daw speedometer ng Carnival not cable type. So whats wrong? Kailangan ko kya palitan sensor?

i think you'll have to replace the whole speedometer unit. like what i did. mileage will be reset to zero. and brace yourself, its costs 5k.

Can we replace it with a speed gauge that can be mounted on the dash board? I don't want to reset the odometer reading if possible.

Signet Edsa. Call them up first to be sure if they have stocks, coz it takes one day to order the parts from the plant.

you mean retrofit a custom speedometer that will be installed at the dashboard? It is possible i think, but would look out of place. i'll experiment with my defective speedo to see if the odometer can be transferred to another speedo.

Oks lang ang P5k na gastos, ako nga P11k ang ibabayad ko sa Wheels kahapon.

For the past two months, I've been hearing an intermittent metallic sound from the engine bay, so I finally had the casa take a look at it. My present mileage is 125,000-km and the vehicle is driven daily along McArthur Highway between Tarlac and Pangasinan, with all its potholes and uneven road conditions

Anyway, the parts that were replaced were the aircon idler pulley and alternator auto tensioner (dito daw nanggagaling yung ingay), engine supports #1 & #4, and a power steering bypass hose.

Here is a photo of one of the worn out engine supports:



Note the cracked and missing rubber portions. The strange thing is, around 10 months ago, according to the invoice I have on file, the casa also replaced engine supports #2 and #3. Mahina ba talaga yung engine support #2 na yan, o talagang malupit lang ang road conditions dito sa Pilipinas? I admit that I often push this van to its limits, especially if my wife has an emergency and we have to get from one province to the other quickly, kaya baka mitigating factor din yung driving habits ko, ewan ko lang.

Unrelated to the noise, but also due for replacement were the two fan belts and fuel filter. Kasama din sa repair cost ang pag-adjust ng foot brake, overhaul ng turbo at minor tune-up.

The casa found that there is a small leak in my turbo unit, so the turbo overhaul involves opening up the assembly and resealing it, otherwise the turbo will continue to deteriorate until it breaks down.

Regarding the fuel filter... our fellow tsikoteer diesoline was kind enough to supply me with one of the Racor filters to try out. I'll let diesoline explain the benefits of this filter over the original. The casa was good enough to not charge me for having the filter replaced... or maybe they intentionally left it out of the labor charges so they couldn't be blamed if the filter malfunctions

Here is a photo of the filter in its wrapper, and as installed on the Sedona. Note the blue arrow in the photo on the right, which indicates a gap between the filter cartridge and the fuel assembly on top. This is as tight as the filter will go, and no fuel leaks were observed either at the casa on on my 180-km return trip from QC to Urdaneta.

Ung sa engine support, one factor is the engine vibration... more vibration means more stress to the engine support.

Re: engine support. My service advisor at Kia Signet does not recommend piecemeal replacement of the engine supports. A couple of my engine supports (i forgot the numbers) needed replacement a year ago but he said it would be more economical if we wait for the others to deteriorate and change the whole set in one sitting. The only drawback is the noticeable shudder after switching off the engine, anyway he said, the engine won't fall off hahaha.

OO nga, napansin ko na malakas ang nginig ng makina pag pinatay ito, lalo na't TDI yung engine ko at hindi CRDi. Basta sure yung SA mo na hindi mahuhulog ang makina ha

I just bought a 2002 Kia Sedona LS 2.9.... 94K * Odometer...

1. and I'm planning change the oil, check the clutch lining, brake pads, timing belt....any idea on how much it will cost?

2. and one thing I noticed is meron konting tama yng rear tires (passenger side), sbi ng mechanic sa Yokohama, delikado daw yun khit maliit lng,,, I'm planning to buy a new tire for that one... no idea on how much again.. my current tire is bridgestone..

any ideas/adivised would be greatly appreciated!

Hello, charlie_alpha. Welcome to the forum.

These are the casa prices for some of the items you are asking about:

Oil filter - P392
Air filter - P480

Brake pads, front - P3,250 per pair
Labor charge, hang engine and replace timing belt - 3,575
Labor charge, 80,000 km checkup - P2,502

Sorry, I don't have any idea on the cost of the clutch thingy, as mine hasn't been replaced yet.

I'm currently running on Dunlop EC201 tires. They cost P3,300 each here in the province. They're probably cheaper in QC.

Also, I'm assuming that your Sedona (a 2002 model, like mine) is already out of warranty, so you could save on costs by having maintenance work done outside the casa, if you have a trusted and knowledgeable mechanic.
