diesoline, i had the brakes checked 5k kms ago. my ride is due for another PMS anytime now. i know i replaced my front pads and had my read adjusted para sa parking brakes. not sure about the rotor but i had a ride once na may tama na yung rotor and iba naman yung feel doon. the pedal feels like it is kicking your foot back. parang kumokontra sya at parang nag vibrate ang pedal. sa carnival ko, iba ang feel coz everything doesnt shake except the body. the pedal and the steering wheel doesnt vibrate at all. yung car ang nagvi-vibrate. weird nga eh. sa tagal ko nang nagdri-drive sa ibat ibang klaseng lumang sasakyan, this is the first time i have encountered this.

may theory ako and i think may punto naman. i read somewhere in this thread that the carnival is very front heavy. kahit sa pag drive ko, alam ko medyo biased sa front ang weight. so my theory is..... on a steep downhill and at speeds above 70kph, hindi kaya ng brakes natin sa harap and momentum ng oto natin. so in effect, the brake pads slips and holds and slips and holds..... parang nag engage ang abs sa front kung baga.

theory ko din on how to cure this problem is dapat mas kapit dapat ang rear brakes natin. if it is possible to set it, dapat i-advance sya ng ilang milliseconds para mas kakapit sya una than what it is doing now. it's like riding a bicycle downhill and medyo nauna ang brakes mo sa harap ng konte. locking your brakes on a downhill will only spell trouble. so dapat dahan dahan ang pag brake sa bike mo. so in a way, parang yopu engage the abs of your bike. tama ba ang theory ko mga peeps? does it make sense?

sana hindi bobo mga mekaniko sa casa dito. i should be bringing her to he casa next week. for her routinary pms.

the local series are called carnival for the gen 1 and sedona for the gen 2. Gen 1 looks like the carnival park 1 and the gen 2 looks like the carnival park 2 for the gray imported versions. There is also a Land series which I believe to be equivalent to the local LS and RS units, with the differences from accessories and ABS only. There is no such thing as a local crdi unit, all crdi units are imported surplus. Imported units, however, have so many different accessories than the local units, and may differ a lot, as can be seen from pictures courtesy of diesoline sooo many pages back.

Thank you for the inputs guys.

Mikey777 - thanks for the site.

Meron pa rin ako additional inquiries about the Carnival/Sedona... sorry ah. Just want to know more about the vehicle and brand kasi before I get one.

Question ko naman about the automatic transmission. Wala naman problem ang Kia sa AT?

When did Kia introduce the Kia Sedona? What are the major difference between the 2 (engine, exterior and interior etc...)?

    Thanks again in advance!

have my 2nd hand carnival for two weeks now, wala namang problems encountered so far. space, power and fuel consumption is very adequate. so does the airconditioning which is very cool compared to our previous ride, the kids really loved the car and have it named already. just waiting to reach 40k for the pms. gud day to you folks!
    Hi jabr,

May I ask how much you got your Carnival?

    Thanks.

    rockinrobin:
i got mine for 380k. it is a carnival ls (ls is the top of the line for this unit as compared to the rs) 2001 model. mileage was only 36K+. One advice i could give to you when buying a pre-owned sedona/carnival unit is to look at the mileage, because there are certain parts that needs to be changed upon reaching 80k (such as the oil pump chain and timing belt) which could mean an additional 30k if it still not changed. i've read all the inputs in this thread which really helped me before i've decided to buy one for my family. no regrets in getting a kia so far, the ride was great! good luck to your car hunting!

Any news on the "2007" Kia Sedona (the alleged 170bhp CRDi )? I heard from the grapevine that a Kia Motors Phils executive went on a trip to Seoul last April to 'finalize' initial acquisition of the new Sedona for the Philippines...any of you heard from your 'suki' dealers/Sales reps about this?

    hi there,

My 2001 carnival AT LS is due for change oil, and I would like to have it done o/s casa. The previous owner brought the unit to Signet Edsa always, however, I wonder what could be the recommended oil brand and what are the items (specific to Kia Car)that I need to buy beforehand? I live in Laguna, so any recommended non-casa shop within the area which can properly maintain my Kia Car will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

bisoy::: You may have a point regarding the braking behavior of the Carnival. I regret though that I can't relate or test your hypothesis since I have the RS version that has a manual tranny and no ABS.

Anyway, you might want to try Otep's suggestion of going to Kia Quezon Ave instead of Wheels E. Rod since the former focuses solely on Kia vehicles while the latter is a multi-brand dealership.

Also, since you're already up to 60,000-km, you might want to prepare for the timing belt replacement that the casa (Wheels) suggests getting done at 70,000-km.

rockinrobin::: Are you asking about the differences between the Gen 1 Carnival and the Sedona?

The Sedona was introduced late 2001 or early 2002. I don't know what changes they made to the engine. My old service advisor told me that the oil pump chain of the 2002 Sedona has already been improved because the previous ones in the Gen 1 Carnival were prone to breaking. As for features, all I know is that the sliding doors of the Gen 1 Carnival don't lock in place when they're open while those of the Sedona do.

hinlog::: I live in Pangasinan and I usually have my PMS done at our local Shell station because it has very good mechanics. Other places where you might get good service are Servitek and reputable local mechanics.

Just check your manual for the engine oil specifications and make sure that what you get meets or exceeds these specs. I use Shell Rimula-X since I have the oil changed every 5,000-km. I've been using it for over 1-1/2 years and th oil performs well for my usual highway driving routine.

Other items to buy beforehand are the air filter and engine oil filter, as well as the fuel filter if you are so inclined to have it changed every PMS (depends on how clean your diesel fuel source is). Also, while the van is up on the lifter you might as well check for any leaks under the engine bay and at the four wheels (shocks, brakes, boots, etc.). I also use this opportunity to remove small stones that get lodged between my tire treads

    Bisoy,
My previous carnival had that shaking problem whenever I do emergency braking, pero pag normal braking ok naman. I had thefront pads changed and the front brake discs refaced. and the shaking problem went away.
