If you notice that it helps your engine during cold starts, then use it. Since I have a manual tranny Sedona, I personally don't find much need for it.

Wala na ung nagbi-blink na Glow Plug light sa dash ko. turns out putok yung fuse sa engine bay. mahal pala nun. 60php isa. kakagaling ko lang kay mang mario, bigla nawala lamig nung a/c. busted hi pressure hose naman ngayon. 1.8k ang damage.

My ride is 01 LS Carnival and during the past few weeks I noticed that whenever we pull out our ride from the garage there's a hoarse grinding sound during few turns, eventually it is gone. Any idea? Similarly, I've got conflicting assessment re the cause of wheel alignment, one mechanic said its rack and pinion (tama ba term ko?) while the other mechanica from the other shop said, its rack end and tie rod that have problem, any recommended shop in the South (I live in Binan) who can provide reliable diagnosis?

please clarify if the sound is during "few turns of the steering wheel" or "few turns of the wheels either forward or reverse"... if during forward or reverse possible cause is the brake pads... kia carnival brake disc and drum surfaces can easily oxidize and become rough due to formation of superficial rusts.. this cause the noise but when you step on the brakes this will be gone immediately..

if during turns of steering wheel possible cause of that is the RACK and Pinion shaft or the power steering pump... it may need an overhaul to clean and replace the oil seals

Our Carnival is testing my patience! sunod sunod ang problema, grabe. enumerate ko na lang ang mga problema, at baka me similar experience kayo.

1. A/C - not cooling.
- replaced hi pressure hose c/o mang mario. after 2 weeks nawala lamig
- had it checked last thursday c/o mang mario again. pulled down both evaporators. they did not see any leak. lumamig naman for a day. kinabukasan wala na naman.

2. Radiator Fan - not coming on
- dismantled the fan personally and directly tested it on the battery. umandar. ibig sabihin thermostat o wiring ang problema.

3. Radiator - naguubos ng tubig sa reservoir. pansin ko pag bukas ang rad cap at ni-rev ko bumubulwak. signs to ng baradong radiator diba?

Thanks Yapoy86, yes it is during few turns of the wheels, and you are correct after by just stepping the brakes the noise is gone immediately. Is this a concern that I need to worry about?

In addition to my previously posted problem, my tie rod and rack end were replaced sometime in May 2006 so I am just curious if those items indeed have short life span. I don't remember driving kia over a big pothole, thus I tend o agree that the rack and pinion is causing the wheels' misalignment...

Regarding item #3. --bumubulwak at nauubos ang tubig--these are signs of a buildup of excessive pressure in the radiator, probably because of too much heat. The excessive heat could be caused by a damaged cylinder head. Watch your temperature gauge as well for overheating. You can check your radiator for sediment or oil too. If oil or grease is present, then you might have bigger problems and require an engine overhaul. Don't delay having these fixed. I went through all of that with my Carnival.

have your brake pads check for thickness baka medyo upod na....but the noise in the brakes during few turns is normal in carnivals... meron lang oxide formation sa surface ng brakes causing that noise.. when you step on the brakes those are scraped thus making the noise gone immediately...

as for the rack end and tie rods, my carnival before is already 7 years old with 90k kms still using the original tie rods and rack ends... i'm inspecting them regularly for any loose defects... dapat medyo mahigpit yan rack ends and tie rods when you move them manually.. also have a good wheel alignment to prolong their service life..

For A/C Problem possible you have a problem on your Expansion valves.. have it replaced together with the Drier Filter.. Also make sure you use HIGH QUALITY REFRIGERANT... I have also the same problem before ok naman lahat pero walang lamig kapos.. yung pala refrigerant ang culprit.. after changing the refrigerant ayun super lamig

Radiator fan of carnival is Automatic and depends on the radiator water temp or when the A/C is ON.. Yung fan at the back of the radiator is dependent on Thermo Switch and A/C but yung fan in front is dependent on A/C only

Radiator loosing water if there are no leaks.. check the rad cap and hose from rad going to reservoir for possible dirt blockage..if you have bad head gasket check the radiator when engine is cold (during first start in the morning) pag may bumubulwak na tubig at may halong oil possible bad head gasket...also have your water pump checked baka may leak na din hindi mo lang pansin kasi nasa loob yan ng timing belt housing.. king napalinis mo na rad mo.. i suggest you use only 500ml of coolant or pure water na lang..

one good thing with carnivals eh hindi talaga yan basta basta nag over heat unlike nung karamihan ng pregio lalo na yung besta van

Replaced the radiator fan. turns out it was already weak. I noticed that it runs at the same time with the ac condenser fan. Is that also the case with your vans?

The van had a mishap 4 mos ago and the insurance accredited shop had to replace the radiator. That's how much damage the van had. anyway in relation to that, all of a sudden like 3 days after installing the new fan. (and a month after the van was finished being repaired) It leaked water. So we brought it back to the shop and they had it replaced with a brand new radiator. mahal ng orig rad, a whopping 10.5k! I was thinking why the radiator cracked and leaked water. Wrong installation perhaps?

the condenser fan (in front) will run only when the A/C is turned on together with the Rad Fan (at the back).. but when the A/C automatically turns off via thermostat, the rad fan will also turn off (and will depend on thermo switch) but the condenser fan will still remain ON until you turn off the A/C switch..

kia carnival radiators are Aluminum unlike conventional rads that are copper that may explain why it is expensive..its also 2row radiator and large enough to keep the engine cool even in hot days..

well our driver said it suddenly conked out in the middle of the road and wouldn't start again. apparently the temperature spiked. my initial reaction was..."oh no it's the timing belt...AGAIN!". we had it towed to the casa and the service supervisor said it was indeed the water pump as well the other things i mentioned. his estimate is around 30 plus for labor and parts. that's just a bit too much for me already. would you know any other non-casa service centers that handle carnivals?

[SIZE=3]Sir FCII: ifyou look under the steering wheel and see what the knob is for, you will see that it is only a cable (like the Bicycle’s gear lever) and all it has in the other end is a tenon pushing on the accelerator pedal. I was bothered with it too so I looked it up. It turns out that they just use it at countries with winter seasons to make the engine heat up quickly when it is extremely cold. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=3]Sir benchph1: I had the same problem with my Sedona wherein I was losing Freon due to high pressure. I had it checked in Evangelista, and they noticed that the radiator fan at the back was working only half of the time. It turns out that it has two sets of carbon brush, one turns on when with the AC and the other with the thermo switch just like what sir yapoy86 said. Therefore, yes, it may work when you wire it directly to the batt but it may not necessarily work when you need it most. They just replaced the other set of carbon brush and replaced the Freon and it is okay. Try running the engine until it is hot, but turn of the AC. If the radiator fan does not turn on when it is supposed to, then it is the other feature that is not working.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=3]The EMC really does wonders for my Sedona because the acceleration greatly improves. Since we live in a building, I have to climb a steep ramp to get home. Since I have to start from a standstill before the gate is lifted and I can go up, and not have any momentum, my Van shudders like it is going to choke on the first 20 meters on the way up. After my EMC, I get more power and no more shuddering. I even notice a big difference on a level road between 1500 to 2000 rpm. And of course, not to mention the huge difference in the smoke coming out of the tail pipe.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=3]I keep all filters clean and the oil fresh, I even use BD but the EMC is what really helped the exhaust. It got so bad that my wife and I made a joke everytime the turbo opens and the black smoke comes out that we are actually providing a “smoke screen” a la James Bond to speed away from the other slowpokes.[/SIZE]
