Maybe TopGearPH should have a comparison test of the top local compacts. This is one category of cars that is beginning to be lost as their pricing put them along the same price as CUVs and crossovers. Maybe the new Civic will change the gloomy outlook and put them back in the sights of potential new car buyers.
Mazda 3 2.0R
Altis 2.0V
Focus 1.5L Ecoboost
Civic 1.5L Turbo
Elantra 1.6L Turbo (in case it gets here later in 2016)
Golf 1.4T
Jetta 2.0TDI
I wonder if there are test drives for the RS model........

Every Tgp article kept comparing it to the SiR, now it got me curious and wanted to test drive..... the SiR![]()
The new Civic Turbo is a more refined car than what the SIR was 17 years ago. It has matured to a higher level than its boy racer image with the EK model. The SIR was a feat on its own, an untamed performance car that offered a lot of tuning potentials with its small yet powerful 1.6L NA engine. The SIR was not even laden with a ton of features but you pay more for its B16 engine which loves to rev to high rpms (redline of 8000). The new Civic Turbo offers a good amount of torque at below 2000 rpm (like most new turbo engines) which is not found in most Honda engines except for the bigger 4-cylinders like the H22 or K24 (Accord, Civic Si).
Maybe in the next few years, we may find the same 1.5L turbo engine used in the CRV and Accord, in place of the R20 and K24 engines. What would be really exciting is when Honda decides to put a tuned version of this small turbo engine on a Jazz/Fit body coupled with a more responsive EPS and stiffer suspension. This will be one car that would pose a sure threat to the Fiesta ST (1.6L turbo, 197hp, 270Nm).

We will not likely get the Elantra turbo... but the Veloster Turbo at 1.54m is a worthy alternative. Better grip than the Civic, and the power is pretty good.

Yeah, I'd love to do a three- or four-way (or even five-way!) test... Focus Turbo, Mazda3, Civic Turbo, Veloster, maybe Golf 1.4T, if VW has a test unit already.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
*niky - maybe you can ask VW-PH to borrow their test drive units for the VW Golf 1.4T, Jetta 1.4T, and Jetta 2.0TDI.
Called my SA *Honda Pasig since due for PMS na ako, they only have the 1.8E for test drives.

NABUHAY ANG THREAD!!!! wohooo!!!
owned both Mazda 3(2.5L NA 1 month) and CivicX(1.5L EX-T current drive), ang lamang lang siguro ng mazda 3 ay yung interior looks at konting exterior.. pero depende siguro yun sa taste nyo...
over all, CivicX ako. Especially long drives.
Ganda rin ng FC 17km/l (driver only) 15.5km/l (2 adult + 1-7 yr old kid + baggage) - Route is San Francisco to LA and speed is mga nasa 110-150 kph na may mga paahon parang antipolo.
excited ako para sa mga future owners.
