Wrong place wrong time

i wonder,
papara ba kaya ako kapag sinenyasan ng isang sibilyan?
i did once, by someone who subsequently said to me that "sumasayad ang rear tire nyo, boss".
i repled, "ok lang. may spare naman ako, eh."
in the movies, (CSI, FBI, NCIS, atbp),
the officers, while in civilian clothes, have conpicuous vests announcing their agencies, as well as bright badges hanging from their necks or on their belts, ready to be exhibited...
i once drove away from a person who flagged me down, when i read up close that the big , official-looking ID hanging on his sternum, had expired. i pointed it out to him, and drove away.
i thought to myself, "ano ba kayang gimik is this person up to?"
many years ago,
one of our doctors who drove a good-lookin' chedeng,
was signaled by several civilians as he was approaching the railroad crossing sa antipolo st in manila.
he did not heed them, and even stepped on the silinyador.
his car got hit by the passing train. (buhay naman. no bodily damage, but the picture in the papers was decidedly embarrassing.)
asked why he did it, he replied,
"i thought they were interested in stealing the car."
apparently, the folks were warning him, that the train was approaching, and that the usual traffic bar was out of order.

Haha reminds me of the time ng ondoy. One end of our street was flooded na, but in front of our house was not flooded naman. So when a car from the other end of the street came in, I waved for him not to proceed, he didn’t mind me went straight ahead. Ayun limutang kotse niya hehe. At least he wouldn’t do an Atty Lao & say he wasn’t informed hehe.
Tama, legitimate officials manning checkpoints should be in complete uniform, with marked police vehicles, and in a well lit area with prominent signage. While one might say “eh di criminals will just avoid the checkpoints kung too obvious” but I don’t think that’s the objective of a checkpoint. Hindi siya entraprment operation, but more of to restrict the movement options of bad elements, enforce peace & order, and/or implement certain rules (tulad ng quarantine). My 2 cents.
If you look up old court cases, you’ll find the fake checkpoint scam has been used by crooks even as far back as th 50’s, lalo na in rural areas. Highway robbery nga.
In the unfortunate case that you’re stopped remember, legitimate checkpoints are limited to a visual search only, unless of course something illegal is in plain view. Turn on your interior light, be polite, but do not allow them to search your vehicle. You may naively volunteer to open your trunk, open your doors (because you know you’re not doing anything wrong) but remember, some corrupt officials have used this as an opportunity to plant contraband (guns, drugs, etc.) The “good” eggs will know and understand that because wala talaga silang balak na masama. The bad ones will try to force the issue and you will be at significant disadvantage, but all is not lost yet, because...
The good thing is we all have cellphones nowadays. In case you have been stopped and anything seems fishy, do not unlock your doors. Call the national emergency number on speakerphone, immediately report (in this order of importance) 1) your location+name, 2) plate number 3) car model and explain to the operator that you are in a dubious situation.
If they get trigger happy and start blazing away, there isn’t much you can do, but (it’s hoped) that the operator will at least be a witness, and there will be some sort of recording/log of what happened. Even if they plant old loose firearms on your corpse to make it out na ‘nanlaban ka”, the fact that you were on the phone with the (hopefully good) police at the time of the incident, where you clearly identified yourself and your location will give them some explaining to do afterwards- after all, why would you give your name and location to the (good) police if you were really doing something illegal right?
No guarantees of course, but its all I can think of doing in a situation like that.![]()
