How true. Sobrang dami bank charges ng BDO. My uncle was charged by BDO a service fee for a marketing call made by the bank. WE find ways to screw you![]()
sa akin naman BDO credit card... they billed me for 2k plus so binayaran ko, only to find out next month na over payment na pala ako. so nung tinawagan ko customer service, i asked ano gagawin dun, kasi pinacancel ko na yung card( a longer story na sila adin may mali)
aba eto sagot:
CS: sir may charge na 1% of the over payment, service fee
me: the first palce kayo ang mali, you billed me so binayaran ko thinking na di ko nabayaran dati yun.
CS: sir??
me: oo cancell mo na din yung isang card ko at may balance pa ng 45k yun this month. kung ala kayo paki sa 12 years na client wala din ako paki sa inyo. cancel mo na eto number...
CS(butts in): sir sayang po card nyo
me: wala akong paki. cancell mo na
CS: ah sir, can you wait... i'll ask my manager kung ano paraan magagawa for the overpayment
cut in short they said they will credit the ovepayment to my visa card, full amount in 3 days. tawag na alng ako ulit
kakapikon my card was originally Equitable, kaso nabili ng BDO ang equitable, after 12years of no worries with equitable biglang na gulo account ko
From what I heard, BDO's taking over of EPCIB is not a marriage made in heaven....
But that's just about my experience kasi....

ako DEBIT CARD nila has problems.. they say na pwede gamitin as mastercard, ending up na di tinatangap ng machine ng shop ang when i check my balance IT WAS DEBITED!
^^the consolidation of these two banks (bdo and equitable) likewise affected the collective bargaining agreement of the epcib employees...apparently, epcib workers' union was able to conclude a good bargain prior to the consolidation..
so far, satisfied client pa naman ako...(knock on wood)
Buti pa sa BPI no service charge nationwide and easy online access pa..

One thing I like about BDO being a major player in the banking sector is that all other banks were 'forced' to provide longer service hours for their customers or they lose them.... Used to be no bank services during weekends.... Used to be banks close at 3PM......et al.
So, those who are working regular shifts (8AM-5PM; Mon-Fri) were forced to skip lunch just to make those ohhh so precious bank transactions (Note: not limited to cash withdrawal)..... (I still keep approximately equal portions of our money though in 2 other major banks)....
Now, generally, these are things of the past.....

80% of the time offline ang BDO atm here in our place. We have to take a jeepney ride to get to the next bank just to withdraw.
Debit card is convenient in paying for some items bought in SM. I don't know kung may charge ito. Sabi sakin sa bank they don't have extra charge kasi ultimano nabawas na agad sa bank account mo which is good for me.
I have been with BDO since 2002 college pa ako nun. For me ok naman sila, but we always have a messenger to do the dirty work of lining up so no comment ako sa haba ng pila![]()
if i may put my :twocents:
AFAIK, before mangolekta ang mga banks ng so called inter branch withdrawals and dormancy charges or other service based or recurring charges, kelangan nilang inform mga customers about it as part of their disclosure requirements and more often, they do this either during account opening or thru flyers(i.e. inhouse and those included in statements). And usually, inuulit na lang ito during transactions.
I'm sure marami sa atin ang guilty na hindi nakabasa ng opening forms, flyers, etc and we get surprised &/or even mad kapag mag-transact tayo na meron charges. i can't blame you but if the bank did it's part in trying to let all these be known beforehand, i can't blame them either.
it's true the customer have the power of choice, to do business with whomsoever they want to & at the cost they are comfortable with pero sometimes, there are other factors that constrains us to do these:
- payroll account - syempre dependent sa company ang choice of who to bank with, and if they do agree & negotiate with the bank that the certain charges will be imposed on payroll transactions.... kawawang empleyado ka...
- supplier/vendor account - some if not most banks do encourage &/or insist that their suppliers/vendors maintain accounts with them. Of course, there will be costs to doing so...
- proximity & convenience - a lot of us do this for convenience dahil gusto natin yung either malapit sa place of work or residence or somewhere along the way. Pero ganun din kasi pananaw ng mga banks which i believe all businesses do, they conduct feasibility studies in such a way that they get as much customer traffic as they can and usually offer products and services to those who do business with them based on these parameters, samples of which are:
- atm or multiple atm machines
- express teller or single transaction lane
- multiple queueing system (i.e. combination of S-queue na parang ahas at paikot ikot & Line queue)
- drop or deposit boxes
- subject to count arrangements
unfortunately, i believe that due to the continiously soaring cost of doing business nowadays coupled with the thinning spread that banks have between the cost of money and interest earnings derived from it, most if not all banks are resorting to slapping more and more fees that are considered transaction/service based.
well, ganun yata talaga ang traditional banking. and as much as i now also pay the fees, i can just imagine how much more expensive or costly would it be without the type of bank services we now have though i know we are all just trying to save our hard earned money, specially during these very difficult times.

BPI na lang kayo. daming ATMs available, no charge for interbranch transactions.
BDO is one of the better banks out there imo.
i've used metrobank, bpi and chinabank. I'm most satisfied with bdo.
as of right now, i think this is still true that customers are not charged for debit card transactions, since it is the merchant (i.e. SM in your example) who gets slapped a transaction fee. i believe that said fee is minimal specially compared to exhorbitant credit card discounts deducted from mechant sales.
kaya nga banks prefer that all depositors have atm/debit cards, at the very least, kasi mas profitable ito para sa kanila on 2 basic areas:
- earnings from float - from the time your money is deposited in your account up to the time you purchase something via debit card. kung cash basis ang bank customer, withdraw agad so less number of days yung pera with the bank.
- earnings from transaction fee - as i have stated above. kung cash basis, alang kita ang bank.
i am a satisfied bank account holder of bdo. ok naman kung savings account ko ang paguusapan
ingat peepz...note na doon sa conditions of the apparently 'free' BDO credit card, kahit hindi mo ipa-activate nagbibilang na yan ng metro na after 1 year you will be obliged to pay the annual fee...better ipa-cancel mo outright na lang base sa complaints in this thread...
good info for me not to use the BDO ATM for debit card purposes...![]()
