The Donaldson was made in mexico and checking thru their website it was indeed made in mexico, also upon further checking it is identical to the LF3462 in specs and applications which I also got from them. The filters look authentic, their not the expensive microglass type just the cellulose ones and the guy said they were not fast moving stocks so maybe they still have the old prices on their stock inventory.
Thanks Doc.
This is very helpful. Will locate, close with, and order the filters.
When are you in town next? I'll buy you a cold one or ten.
By the by Doc, am having a difficult time cross referencing for oil and fuel filters for my rig, can you help me out? It's a 98 HiLux with the 3L, 2.8 liter diesel engine.
I take it that once I'm using a better filter (Fleetguard, Baldwin, Donaldson) that I can extend my oil change interval to 10K instead of 5K even when running either Rimula X black 15W-40 or Mobil Delvac 15W-40? Or can I just change out the oil at 5K then both oil and filter at 10K?
Thanks.

If you want to just change your oil and your filter *10000 and oil just go with a LF3487 which is the ful synthetic media version. It cost more but filters much better and will extend your oil change.
I use Mobil Delvac myself.
Thanks Ry-Tower! Will call them tomorrow and get the prices. Just in time too as I'm about to get an oil change soon.
Hi Doc,
Given the type of engine I have, I think synthetic may be wasted on it. Or could I benefit from going synthetic?
Based on what you just said, I can take the part numbers Ry_Tower gave me and just change them as per factory spec? Oil filter every 10K and Fuel Filter every 20K? Or is still advised to change out my oil filter every 5K? What about the fuel filter?
Thanks.
Hope to hear from y'all again soon.

Better filtration is never a waste of money and here is why, If you go with a synthetic media filter and synthetic oil you can easily go 12000 to 15000 kilometers between il changes. The synthetic media filters hold 2 more particles before going into bypass mode, the are far more efficient at cleaning your oil better and are good to 5 microns best bang for the buck. in my opinion. But if your going to run dyno stick with the standard filters you can still easily do 10000 to 12000 using the standard filters due to the fact they are more efficient and hold about 4 times more particles than a OEM filter..
There is almost no reason to change oil at 5000k with a quality oil and filter. The oils additive package and total base number is good well beyond that on modern oils. Especially brands like Shell, Motol and Mobil.
Either way you go anything is better than VIC and almost all OEM filters. Also look into the Baldwin B2 it's a mixed media filter it has microglass mixed with cellulose and is 98% efficient * 12 micros.
Any diesel should be running the best filter they can get.
Have a question here, the fleetguard oil filter design I bought was not the fluted type, meaning the end or the dome shaped end doesn't have the ridges which most of the oil filters available in our local auto supply store have, will it still be possible to use those oil filter wrenches that come in sizes that fit like caps at the end of the filter? My concern here is those chain type filter wrenches might slip on a wound tight stuck filter because of the smooth filter surface.
No, you will not be able to use filter-wrench caps on unflutted filter.
Proper tool is a locking-pipe wrench(if you have doubts using chain), metal-band type (lots in Ace hardware Stanley brand), Belt- type, or you can improvise using your old leather-belt or used timing/ fan belt.
FS19594 seems to be smallish compared to the stock Mann Filter. Im most concerned with the flow-rate so im assuming smaller media means more restriction. Im bit-worried also that Navara D40 Diesel has no lift-pump w/c means the fuel pump is doing all the sucking from the tank.
But on hind sight, im thinking that Nissan did installed a stronger sucking pump because they would not fit two filters in-line using 3/8 hose without considering the restriction.. Spain-built Navaras only have 1 fuel filter, and what we got from Thailand is tropicalized for bad-fuel so it gets 2 filters.
Im planning to replace primary filter with B41212, problem is the WiF sensor will be useless
The primary filter will be replaced by High efficiency (2micron best-effort, they said 4microns is what kills the CRD injectors). And to compensate for the restrictions, fuel line might be upgraded also.
Now my problem is the WiF (might consider to retain the primary for the WiF functionality).
Also i could'nt find 1-14 filter-head with primer-pump. Would'nt want to compromise without bleeder-pump because its handy during roadside troubles, and It would be ackward to always bring the pressure pump. The one sold online is Parker/ Racor marine-grade filters and it cost a fortune.. Do you have alternative part for that?
Crosses for the part without pump - Donaldson P562262, Cummins 142784S, Baldwin FB1311
Parker has 1-14 but i dont know if gasket of common filters like CAT IR0750 would fit in that
Everything back on scratch-board because of the WiF and bleeder pump..![]()
Hi Doc,
So if I run the fleetguard filters, I can go 10K between changes even with standard mineral oils from Shell and Mobil. This is good. Yeah, he'll have to go to a dyno after the turbo's installed so I can optimize the power I can get from the turbo and to make sure that the fuel system is running optimally.
How about the fuel filters, do I change them out at 10K too or 20K like the factory filter?
I think I'll stick with fleetguards as they are easier for me to go get compared to the other brands. But will consider the Baldwin B2 in my inquiries.
I agree that our diesel rigs should be running the best filters possible.
Thanks!
^^ Must be the Baldwin DAHL. It doesnt have priming pump, head and filter element is not universal spin-on and the price isOn the other hand, Racor-head has the priming pump and is a universal spin-on (couldnt verify though the gasket). If Racors gasket would fit, i could use the other brands spin-ons.
Im interested to Fleetguard FS1242B that would be somehow more compatible to my filter-head, but supplier doesnot bring it here.
IL check whats new with DAHL, maybe they would bring a spin-on. Those in the store are huge maybe for 4 liter and up engines.

since we are in the topic of oil filters, would like to ask the gurus, how do you usually choose which viscosity of oil to use?
for example, on a 4m40 or 4d56 with 130k km upwards of mileage, is it correct to use 15w40 weight of oil?
