    but of course!
new tech are always accompanied by birthing pains, perceived or real.
it takes time to improve and evolve new technology, and the buying public to accept them.
only time will tell, whether the new owners of new tech, are blessed or cursed.

Hybrids have been around since the late '90s.

    and they've been improving,
    and continue to improve.

but how long have they been prominently bannered in our country?

a successful product has at least two sides: the product quality, and the buying public's perception, real or imagined.
    these do not happen overnight.

of course, there's also the price, and the reason why one would want to acquire one.

    case in point,
it took me many years to convince myself that AT is the way to go.

don't need the coding exemption, don't need the acceleration. hybrids don't help fuel economy when youre cruising at a steady 100kph on the expressway so yeah for me they're BS hehe

the byd seagull, "less than 1m". vinfast vf3, "less than 800k". both interesting as toy cars that is

Its a chicken and egg scenario. Paano kapag nasira? Pwede ba kay Mang Kanor sa kanto ipagawa? So konti lang bumibili. Si Mang Kanor naman, ayaw pag-aralan, ayaw mag-improve ng skills, puro Toyota alam kasi konti lang naman bumibili ng ibang brand.

    so the question is,
"do i be the pioneer test-bed costumer, or do i wait for others' local experience before i decide to buy?

i just viewed a youtube article discussing a foreign topgear and its character person jeremy C.
according to the critic, it seems that the program goes out of its way to make it seem that the vehicle being featured, an EV yata, performs below spec...

^I personally don't think "we" are still "beta testing" EVs and Hybrids... They've been around for so long.

Biggest question is when can Juan let go of the traditional mechanic?
When will we have our car maintained/fixed without us watching.

In our neighborhood, there's the "kanto" car wash and Shell... Yes, Shell is double the price but the waiting area is was better (you will spend more for coffee)
I don't have that luxury with the kanto car wash since I need to watch them clean my car as there are times when they don't wash the entire roof of our Zenix... and they have the tendency vacuum the inside without removing the floor mats. Only kanto car wash I can personally trust is in San Pedro Laguna!

Same with having our cars fixed... my sister still can't leave her car during PMS, so her car is serviced outside the casa.

In my case... since 2002... I only brought 1 vehicle (it was my Vespa) outside the casa for PMS and I really felt something was off and had to return it sa casa for checking after a month!

Yes, Hybrids and EVs cannot be repaired by our regular mechanic... pero until when are you planning to use their services?

In my case, when our mechanic for petrol and diesel passed away (my dad used to be in the PUV business, hence we had in-house people for repairs) I never tried to look for replacements.

Although, minsan naiisip ko... Motorcycles are so easy to fix. I can DIY them someday... only issue is that the "advanced diagnostics tool" is a subscription... hassle naman to pay for it tapos twice a year ko lang kailangan.

Jeremy is more of an entertainer (closed-minded one) now and something of an old fart anyway. The show is totally different from the magazine.

agree. I only watch the old TopGear and The Grand Tour for entertainment purposes.

pardon my stupid and ignorant questions on this I-DM tech but:

    1. if the electric engine malfunctions, can the ICE still run? if so, for how long assuming you do not repair the electric engine?
    2. if the ICE malfunctions, can the electric engine still run? If so, for how long assuming you do not repair the ICE?
    3. or if one malfunctions, then is the whole system compromised and the vehicle is "left for dead?"

it probably depends on the model.

the folks at ertiga hybrid claim that one may drive the vehicle as an ordinary ICE, if the EV component breaks down.

in contrast, some toyotans argue, "it's all or nothing".

Ah ok kaya pala. Kailangan na 30km/l at least ang mga Vespa para maging lamang.

Ayos din ang 25km/l na mixed normal driving, para sa big at heavy na MPV.

yup... around 25-28km/l kami ni misis sa Vespa. kaya mas tipid sa gas to use the Zenix over our 2 Vespas (may A/C pa yung Zenix)

My sister keeps saying na 10-12km/l din daw yung HR-V nya... pero I keep reminding her the size of the Zenix... its a really big car.

Ertiga is a mild hybrid where the electric motor does the stop/start function and acceleration assist. Theoretically the ice will run fine without the electric motor but in practice how are you going to start the ice with the electric motor dead?

ertiga retains the original starter motor and it uses this motor to start the car the first time. the ISG motor is for restarting from auto-start/stop, silently coz it's belt driven
