majority of EV are more resilient to flood than traditional ICE vehicles.
Their batteries and computer systems are IP certified just like most current smartphones. But just like any items that is flooded those other non protected parts will get flood damage.

The point of exemption of EV and hybrids is to have more fuel efficient and environmentally friendly cars on the road that would result in better air quality.
If you take the exemption out, its more likely that the EV/Hybrid owner will use a gas guzzling ICE car for the coding day thus lessening the environmental impact of having EV and hybrids for cleaner air.

Also better for our energy independence because our power generation isn't dependent on imported oil. We use a lot of coal (43%) and natural gas (25%). Oil is only about 5%.
Plus it's sunny all year round. Literally the best case scenario for solar.

Anybody here has boarded their electrified vehicles in an inter-island roro ship lately? Are there Any additional docs required for boarding?

I understand some ferry companies do not allow ev and phev on board for "safety reasons". Or have those rules been rescinded by their respective managements na?

Batangas to Calapan - you can only use Montenegro. (no additional costs)

kainis nga since nagmamadali kami to go to Calapan. we just missed the cut-off for Montenegro tapos I told the terminal staff na any ro-ro will do. they asked me to queue for Starlight only to be told that they don't accept EVs and Hybrids.

had to queue again for the next Montenegro ferry.

Observation ko lang while on the road.

Yaris Cross vs Sealion 6 - mas mura yung Sealion 6 and its a bigger car. feeling ko at below 1.6M (1.690 yung TOTL Yaris Cross) - sulit yung Sealion 6 and makikita natin sa roads na madami talaga sya.

Zenix HEV vs Tang DM-i - at 2M - parang mas pinipili ng mga tao yung Zenix over the Tang (both are 7 seaters). not sure about the current supply ng Tang. pero noticeable na mas madaming Zenix sa road compared to the Tang.

Ano reason why hybrid and EVs are not accepted in the RORO?
Dahil ba sa fire risk from salt water?

... the explosive and fire potential of their lithium batteries, no doubt.

NagulaNtang Ako kagabi Nung sinabi Ng classmate ko dati na Ang lakas daw sa gas Ng mazda CX-90 niya.

I guess the impression I had with these kinds of vehicles are they're gas misers. Meron din palang hybrid na taliwas sa ganun Kong paningin (although technically mild hybrid Naman daw talaga iyon and specifically geared for spirited driving).

The Tang Dm-i only came out late last year. The Zenix has a few years head start.
The Tang EV isn't selling well as compared to the dm-i(PHEV) model. mostly due to price.
i see a lot of Tang dm-i now a days although still not up to the zenix.
Had Toyota dealers and SA not imposed a toyota tax on the Zenix when it first came out then you would have definitely seen a lot more of them in the streets.

The Zenix HEV had a two year head start over the Tang DM-i. That should account for the difference. There are also several electrified 7-seater options with BYD. You can go downmarket with the Emax7 or upmarket with the Emax9. For a 2M price tag though I think the Tang DMi has more value than the Zenix.

i hate comparing Toyota hybrids to BYD hybrids because their approach to gasoline+electricity come from opposite directions. Toyota's priority is the gas engine and the electric motor acts as a torque-filler. BYD's priority is the electric motor. For a large portion of daily driving, the gas engine isn't even connected to the wheels. The engine only connects to the wheels at high, steady speeds functioning as a range extender. Toyota uses electricity to make a gas car better while BYD uses gas to make an electric car go further.

At below 1.6M, the best deal imho is the Geely EX5 em-i. Quite the feature list at 1.46M, and has better batteries than the Sealion 6 (which is basically a generation behind). The MG HS+ is not bad too, at 1.398M.

At the 2M mark, the Zenix will not be beaten in the Philippines (malakas talaga Toyota) but the Tang is arguably the better vehicle (totally different segments, tho).

Agree ako na Geely seems to have a better car (at sub-1.6M) di pa lang ako sanay sa looks nya. (same naman with the Sealion 6 nung bago)

OK sana si MG HS+, my neightbor has one, pero I think wired yung CarPlay nya which is very disappointing.

agree. pero small things na nakaka-inis.

naalala ko when we were looking at the Territory Hybrid, laking plus points na may USB sya sa rear view mirror. saktong plug ng dash cam.

There's a test drive event at the MoA concert grounds (near Lanson Place Hotel). Admission is free and the event is until Sunday, May 10.

While there are ICE vehicles for testing, the vast majority of inventory for test drive seem to be NEV's. Brands with booths that I saw were:

    • Tesla
    • Honda
    • Toyota
    • Lexus
    • BYD
    • Omoda & Jaecoo
    • Kia
    • Nissan

The others I couldn't see clearly. For those of you thinking about hybrids and EV's, this is a great chance to check them out one after the other. Trust me, it is a hassle these days to get test drives for EV's and hybrids from dealerships, and the fact that you could do side by side comparisons is great.

Mainit nga lang so stay hydrated.
