    That's how most of the pipz at the usa forester forums see it.

    Here though, the Overdrive button works by adding the last gear, making it able to go faster but if and only if you're already beyond the 2nd to the last gearing ratio. I actually drove an AT before with this feature and this is exactly what it used to do.

    I'm just not sure that 'power' = 'overdrive', and it doesn't say so in the manual (or anywhere else, apparently).

    Try this. Accelerate from a full stop. Keep your foot at constant throttle, say not lower than 1/4. Count the number of gears it shifts to and (this is more important) take note of the rpm it shifts until you hit a speed of 120 kph. Now repeat this process but with the power button on. That should finally put your question to rest.

    I've learned not to believe everything the casa tells me lalo na in the case of an AWD, turbo charged, 4EAT proshift transmission et al.

    Hindi ko nga halos ma-feel yung shifting eh. Feeling ko 2 gear lang meron. hahaha. Maybe you can try on your unit. You from manila? Layo ng house ko eh.

    Yung sa overdrive, proven ko na yan. I was wondering why my old Galant AT before was more thrifty on fuel when the OD button was on, then when I counted the gearing, pag naka-off pala siya, 3 gears lang!

    I was informed by e-mail by Motor Image Phils that the power button is NOT an OD button. It delays shifting of gear to higher revs daw but the 4 gears are available all the time. Can someone help me verify this? Maybe with Subaru Singapore or Japan?

    Got the same answer from Motorimage in Singapore last week. I always drive with it off. I believe you don't need it swithced on to use all 4 gears.

    One thing i do to check what gear I'm on is to switch from D to sportshift (?) mode. The indicator on the guage cluster will then display the gear used. I drive with a light foot and I notice that I hit 4th gear at 60 - 70 kph with the power button off. Will try with the power button on later.

    Well, it's just about certain that Power is NOT Overdrive. I was going at 80 km/h with Power OFF and popped the stick into sportshift and the indicator said 4. I guess it's an ECU adjustment to delay gear change rather than a physical drive lock like the OD.

    the power on/off button is just a delay in shifting. much like when you shift gears using m/t, you try to shift at higher rpm to get max power from that gear. the toyota camry has the same button, im assuming it works the same way. akala ko dati the power button will give you more hp, it doesnt make any sense when you think about it.

    Yes. I know that now. Some of us simply confused it with the OD button which simply enables the last gear to be used -- almost opposite of the power button in terms of gas consumption I suppose.

    ...kase, whatever noise the turbo makes, it's hardly discernable. tsaka the boost does not kick in until around 3K RPM, and you'll know it when it does...but take it easy for now, until the break-in period is over. be forwarned though, it'll be difficult restraining yourself from unleashing the beast, so good luck.

    personally, i'd rather listen to the burble of the boxer engine.

    You know I was just re-reading this thread and it suddenly occurred to me that the reason I'm probably not hearing a whistle is that ..... my turbo's a virgin!Yes, never been used! I'm still breaking in, see, so I don't exceed 105-110 kph. But at that speed, the RPM hasn't reached 3000 yet!

    OK, here's some mileage data at 1,500 kms (no problems):

    Second fill-up: 6.76 km/liter
    Third fill-up: 7.32 km/liter
    Fourth fill-up: 7.54 km/liter

    Mixed City/Hiway

    Baliktad yata itong Forester ah, parang tumitipid habang tumatagal. hehehe.

    Question lang sa mga FXT owners. Would it be advisable to install a turbo timer in order to allow for a cool down of the turbo?
