there are studies that indicate that washing with soap and water, or using alcohol, may cause the specialized N95 mask to "disintegrate" somewhat, causing reduction in their filtering ability.
a study using steam-cleaning (and they showed a picture of a mask inside the traditional siopao bamboo cooker), suggested it may be done three cycles, and still remain use-able.
autoclaving is a time-tested way of sterilization. a hospital study suggested that the n95 mask could be recycled for up to five times, and still keep its filtering ability intact.
microwave? for one, some masks have minute metal parts (nose piece, staples) that are a no-no in microwaving.
but are they otherwise effective against covid? i don't know.
clorox, zonrox, or sodium hypochlorite?
i don't know. but they may leave an un-healthy residual that we do not want to breathe in...
i guess, that means, they still haven't come up with a uniform way to re-use masks.

May 28th, 2020 01:22 PM #12223Just got back from a quick grocery run at an SM near my place. There's still a waiting area before you can get in the supermarket but, its not as long a wait anymore. I was seated for only 5 minutes before they let me in. Number of shoppers are considerably less than last month, almost normal, and the lines to the cashiers are not that long either. Some items are still limited on what you can buy, but overall, they are well-stocked. Facemasks, disinfectants like alcohol and bleach are all over the place and shoppers are not even bothering to look them over anymore.
