it's common medical knowledge, that no vaccine offers perfect protection.
the reason such infection-despite-vaccination cases are wide public knowledge nowadays,
is because covid is worldwide, affecting large numbers of people, thus offering relatively larger numbers of examples,
and because the internet offers effective near-instantaneous spread of information, real or manufactured.

I get a booster shot yesterday since there is no pfizer available I stick with sinovac (I don't like astra and moderna because of known issues with the vaccine). I just hope that sinovac booster shot can help me in the next few months for omicron.

it shouldn't matter if people test positive

what's important to society-at-large and the global economy is vaccine reduces hospitalizations and deaths

then the world can stop fearing SARSCOV2 and normalize

this obsession with cases should end

no need to swab people who don't go to the hospital

Sorry but there was a study done by the University of Hong Kong that 3 doses of Sinovac cannot stop Omicron.

Yes I also read that article but I don't want to go back again so I just make a safe choice with sinovac as booster. If it will not be an effective booster to omicron then I guess DOH should revise its booster shot policy because there is no use having that booster shot if it will not protect you from omicron and I see more people lining up for sinovac booster compared with astra or moderna.

swabbing everyone (asymp, mild) counting cases creates material for the media to feed on

fearmongering media --> people demand government action

governments are pressured to act -- on and off restriction cycle

this (pandemic) won't officially end as long as governments maintain the cycle

the swabbers may have a legitimate reason for their swabbing.
    "research" and all that.

what the media does with the info, however...

maybe the swabbers should just keep the info to themselves, until after the paper (research output) is published.

our journalism teacher used to say,
"if there is no news, let us make the news!"

    for example,
"dog bites man!" is not news.
"man bites dog!" now, that's news!
    heh heh.

On Dec 27, 2021, the number of new cases worldwide hit an all time high, with 1.49M. Massive increases were observed in US and UK

that means you have so much virus in your nose or saliva that the test strip can detect it

malayo ang sensitivity ng antigen tests sa PCR -- you gotta have tons of virus in your nose or saliva for the test to detect

PCR naman too sensitive it can detect very small amount virus kaya meron cutoff value

coz doing those things before the test can easily give you false negative result

    -

    i agree.
if the saliva test is reactive, then you really have it.
    if saliva test is non-reactive...

    trivia.
pinay ang nag-imbento ng first saliva test for covid.

So that means my friend was really positive? No such thing as false negative sa saliva test? Yung test namin submitted sa lab (not at home test kit)

kaya mali ung pag gamit sa PCR as diagnostic tool

pati mga walang sakit (walang sintomas) may sakit

using a dna/rna amplification machine as diagnostic tool

if such machines existed during the spanish flu di lang 2 years ung pandemic na yan

    -

cause of false positive -- the rapid test may not be highly specific to sarscov2

meaning it may have picked up some other coronavirus (cross reactive -- this is what rapid test manufacturers try to avoid)

    -

cause of false negative -- the rapid antigen test isn't sensitive enough to pick up small amount of virus

gusto niya madaming madami virus -- only people with symptoms will test positive (high viral load)

like Thermo-Fisher, Bio-Rad, Roche, Quiagen etc

i'm sure hindi iisang brand gamit nila
