South Africa jubilant as Omicron wave subsides rapidly with minimal Covid hospital admissions and Delta killed off: 'Expect the same in other countries'
Optimism is growing rapidly in South Africa as the wave of Covid infections caused by the Omicron variant seems to subside as quickly as it came.
Infections are down and multiple Covid experts have confirmed the Omicron wave is subsiding quickly.
Ridhwaan Suliman, a senior researcher at the South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), said the country has “surpassed the peak of the Omicron wave now, driven by the significant decline in the populous province and epicentre: Gauteng,” the province that is home to Johannesburg, the country’s largest city.
Although test positivity remains “still high at 29.8 per cent,” the fact the figure is decreasing confirms “the decline in infections is real and not a testing artifact,” Suliman added.
Other Covid researchers are saying the same.
Michelle Groome, of the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD), told reporters that “we have surpassed the peak of infections.”
kaya mas ok specific kung ano city mahihinang nilalang. Wag buong ncr bilangan para ang ilookdown yung area mismo.
but watch how PH media will be covering this as local cases skyrocket (even if we know cases peak and fall quickly)
watch/listen to people like leachon
btw, lumalabas na uli sa TV si guido ng octa research
watch how the public reacts when new cases go into the thousands again
huwag na tayo lumayo
dito palang sa thread may mga nag post "here comes the surge"
what's next?
people will demand higpitan ng gobyerno ang restrictions
ano pa ba?
Huwag kayo ma praning.
The govt expected the surge and they know if its omicron its just like a simple cold, which it is. For majority of fully vaccinated its a walk in the park.
For the immuno compro, get a booster and a flu shot.
The govt will no longer declare ncr wide lockdowns, and they will stop listening to Lechon just like how kags hate its raw looking fats. The economy has to move. Face masks will stay for sure and face shield maybe as compromise to lockdown advocates. The packing Phil is open drove from north to south no one check the vaccine cards.
Telltale sign is when DOH announced they will no longer report covid numbers next year, so dont fret, its one way of saying we are now ready to live with the virus so pack the numbers.
Now if its not omicron, then we are screwed.![]()
Positivity is number of tested positives divide by number of total tests done, right?
There are fewer people getting tested and no more road blocks in different LGUs that require covid test to enter. Those who went for a covid test most probably have symptoms, and are more likely to be infected. So tataas talaga positivity.

this is why i personally feel, our local statistics might not be compared to the foreigns' ,
because our numbers might be generated in a manner that is not similar to theirs.
if ours are based on tests on folks who are symptomatic, or have been pre-screened in whatever way,
and the others' are generated from un-screened walk-ins...
