I may be wrong but if you read the tones on the political views of the people here, i don't see bitterness really from the anti-Duterte people but more of frustration on some of his actions (so far), and the irrational behavior of some Duterte supporters here. Try to step back and look at the picture as a whole, and from even before last month as this goes back a long way so you can understand the personalities behind the other posters as well.

On a related note, isn't this a conflict of interest? Everyone knows the real estate interest of the Villars and having a hand in the DPWH will work to their advantage. I was hoping he could retain Singson as DPWH Sec as i think the man was doing a commendable job overall.

NP, PDP-Laban coalesce; Villar son gets DPWH | Headlines, News, The Philippine Star | philstar.com

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) and the Nacionalista Party (NP) formally forged a coalition yesterday after both supported the candidacy of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte in the May 9 polls.

Duterte ran under PDP-Laban, but his runningmate Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano is a member of NP.

The incoming president announced last night that he would appoint reelected Las Piņas Rep. Mark Villar as secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The two parties officially sealed the merger yesterday when an agreement was signed by Villar’s father, former senator Manuel Villar, representing the NP, and Sen. Aquilino Pimentel III for PDP-Laban.

The signing was held when the press conference of Duterte at the Matina Enclave Residence was about to end late yesterday afternoon.

Both PDP and NP were supposed to be part of the Liberal Party-led coalition for the elections.

    Headlines ( Article MRec ), pagematch: 1, sectionmatch: 1

Sen. Cynthia Villar and her son Rep. Mark Villar witnessed the signing of the agreement done in front of Duterte.

The two parties actually started the merger in August last year to support the candidacy of Duterte, who said he did not have the logistics and machinery to run a campaign for president.

What to do with Mark Villar’s congressional post is still under discussion, with substitution eyed. Villar was president of Crown Asia and MGS Corporations before he became a congressman.

He is married to DIWA party-list Rep. Emmeline Aglipay.

re villar appointment - that's surprising since the villars and aguilars were backing poe in las pinas (along w/ marcos). could've been some serious horse trading that occurred down south

and i agree, singson should've been retained along w/ bro luistro of the deped. that villar appointment is eye brow raising, to say the least

Well Duterte is not worried in giving key departments to the communist. So ok lang yan si Villar para sa kanya, may background sa construction so pasok yan sa DPWH.

dunno about that but their clan was parading all sorts of poe & marcos paraphernalia all over las pinas. even their electioneering footmen had marching orders to campaign for poe and marcos (two of these actually go to our house and do some household chores for extra income regularly and that's what they were specifically told)

another last second switch from the poe campaign to the duterte camp was the revillas of cavite. so i'm expecting bong to get some favor in the near future

They just probably covered all their bases.

But one think I'm sure he's still bitter from his loss to Pnoy, once you have a meeting with him. He is still talking about his losing bid and was dissing Pnoy and his admin. [emoji16]

Lawyer Sal Panelo has been mentioned as potential spokesman and press secretary. The man, no doubt, has very good skills at picking his way through media space. But he had many controversial clients in the past and the ghosts of those cases might haunt him.

Most provocatively, Panelo lawyered for the Ampatuan family in the horrendous Maguindanao massacre cases. These cases have barely moved in the courts. Should Panelo take up a portfolio in the new administration, this will undoubtedly be raised as a major issue by the families of the victims and the human rights community that has been following the litigation closely.
