Office of the President gets P17-B increase in 2017 budget

MANILA, Philippines – The Office of President Rodrigo Duterte seeks an allocation of P20.03 billion ($430.3 million), the proposed 2017 national budget shows.

The amount is around P17 billion more than the P2.87 billion ($61.44 million) budget that the Office of the President (OP) has for 2016.

Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno said on Monday, August 15, that the increase is due to the Philippines' hosting of the ASEAN Summit in 2017, which is also the organization’s 50th anniversary.

“There is a P15 billion item in OP for the hosting the 50th anniversary of ASEAN. This item, while at OP, will be distributed to concerned agencies during budget implementation,” Diokno told Rappler in a text message on Monday.
10B lang ang ginastos nung 2015 APEC Summit tapos etong si PGong hihingi ng 15B para sa isang ASEAN Summit lang?

Abay malinaw pa sa araw na lokohan to.

What Digong lacks, is sensitivity to the plight of Martial Law victims when he insists on burying Marcos at LNB. I hope the dissent and dissatisfaction grows so that he'll feel it come the mid-term elections.
You mean, Sir, that the wisdom to whether or not bury the strong man at the Libingan ng mga Bayani is a POLITICAL QUESTION and NOT a justiciable controversy?

DRUG-RELATED killings may be on the rise but total reported crimes across the country have dropped by 10 percent, a Malacañang spokesperson said on Sunday.

“The government’s campaign against illegal drugs and crimes continues to reap positive results one month after President Duterte occupied Malacañang,” Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said over state-run dzRB radio.

“This is proof that a fearless solution and urgent action, which the President is known to advocate, are not only a campaign slogan. It’s a change that Filipinos now feel wherever they are, even in the far-flung communities where illegal drugs and crime exist,” he said.

Citing Philippine National Police statistics, Andanar said recorded crime incidence throughout the country was 50,817 last July, or 5,522 fewer than the 56,399 incidents reported in the same period in 2015.

    Plummeted

According to Andanar, index crimes—or crimes against persons and property—plummeted to 11,800 in July, or a 31 percent decrease from 17,105 cases reported in the same month last year.

During the same period, Andanar said crimes against property, such as theft and robbery, went down by 40 percent, from 11,106 incidents to 4,476.

The data, however, provided by PNP spokesperson Senior Supt. Dionardo Carlos did not include the number of individuals that died during police operations and vigilante killings stemming from Mr. Duterte’s crackdown on illegal drugs.

Military seizes 2 Abu Sayyaf strongholds in Basilan
    04:51 PM August 16th, 2016

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines—The military on Tuesday said it had seized two strongholds of the Abu Sayyaf in Basilan after more than a month of military operations.

Col. Andrew Bacala, commander of the 4th Special Forces Battalion, said on Monday soldiers were finally able to set foot on Hill 355 in Barangay (village) Silangkum in Tipo-tipo town.

“The hill is the ASG’s (Abu Sayyaf Group) last stronghold after the terrorists went on the run from the relentless military operation that started last July. A total of 10 enemy bunkers, four tunnels, several foxholes and two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were seized on Hill 355,” Bacala said.

Last Sunday, soldiers were also able to simultaneously seize and take control of Abu Sayyaf strongholds in Barangay Baguindan Proper and Kawilan Hill, he said.

Bacala said the more than one month of military operation had led to the “liberation” of the people of Tipo-Tipo, Ungkaya Pukan and Albarka from the clutches of the Abu Sayyaf.

Earlier, President Rodrigo Duterte said he wanted the Abu Sayyaf destroyed, adding that it was pointless to talk peace to them because it was not clear whom they were fighting for or what ideology they have.

Joel Maturan, the former town mayor of Ungkaya Pukan—a town carved from Tipo-tipo—said “the Abu Sayyaf was finally flushed out of our towns.”

Gov. Mujiv Hataman of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) said with the flushing out of the bandits, development could now start to take place in the former Abu Sayyaf strongholds.

“The provincial government of Basilan has plans to develop the place to make sure the armed men who terrorized our poor people will no longer return and occupy the place,” Hataman said.

He said people in the affected areas “are now free and they can start to live normal lives.”

“There are interventions being done by local government, livelihood, training, education and security to make the affected communities strong against these lawless elements,” Hataman said when asked what local government units can do to further improve the lives of the locals.

Tor, it is not ad hominem, it is the TRUTH.

Tor, as I said, it is NOT ad hominem; it is the truth.

Look, if this administration is really great, then why the hell we are still fighting against the Abu Sayaff? Why Indonesia and Malaysia are even joining the fray if we can easily contain them?

No, TOR, nothing has happened earth-shaking to our country; it is still the same.

Yes, we made some inroads against dangerous drugs but that is not enough.

It is wrong to say AD HOMINEM, because, TOR, you are NOT arguing; you are merely copy-pasting news reports. You are like a parrot. Do you understand what you are saying?

In fact, TOR, you are no different from ex-President Aquino and his spin doctors who always blamed the administration of his predecessor of their own woes. So, TOR, what does that make you?

Heto pa. Wala din to sa nakaraang administrasyon.

Duterte will have P7.6 billion for representation expenses, including for entertainment, and a P2.5- billion intelligence fund.

The representation allocation of his predecessor, former president Benigno Aquino III, was a drop in the bucket at P139.3 million.

That's like telling a self-anointed propagandist to stop spewing propaganda. Eh di nawala ang kanyang raison d'etre. Hayaan mo na at hindi naman bawal ang cut-and-paste. At least you can see it coming from a mile away.
