That Concept engine pretty sure is only a dream to Pinas unless our local emmission regulation std will be upgraded to EURO 5 or the stringent US EPA Tier 2 Bien 5.
Guess what we'll expect for the 5th gen STRADA is the 2.5L 4D56 175 hp UK L200 Long Bed current model or the 3.2L 4M41 200 hp engine of the 2010 Aussie Pajero.
As we all knew on the DAKAR 2009 where 3 out of 4 Diesel Racing Lancers entries broke down (overheating probs) on the race with the one survive at 7th place due to penalties (not sure). V6 3.0L -280 hp engines were used & i doubt if Mitsu continue it's development of those engines. Even the Qatari privateer Al Attiyah whose leading the initial stages also broke down on his BMW diesel, The VW diesel is superb as they easily grab the crown 1-2 punch finished.
The latest diesel engine on Pinas now is the Toyota LC 200 twin turbos V6 4.5L 260 hp? Might be adopted on TUNDRA trucks in US on 2010.
More news next post.

IMO the engines for those racing lancers are prematurely entered to the dakar rally so I think that's why they suffered alot of overheating which cause them a really hard to bite 7th place as what you said. considering the feats of all the generations of the pajero and the other Mitsu Models that was used by different teams in the said rally. However I can consider the last dakar rally as testing waters for the Mitsu team and since they already learned their lesson from the past season, for sure there are readying alot of surprises on conquering the next one.

BTW I think the new LC200's has a V8 4.5L twin turbo 265 hp

sorry po medyo OT

thank you sir for the quick input...

If MMPC will put its heart and soul into making the Clean Diesel engines a reality, they must work on our standard diesel fuel compatibility. The Philippines may not too strict with euro step emissions standards yet but let see what happens next.

Regarding the Long Bed L200/Strada/Triton/Sportero...
Please wait for my VERDICT within this week or two regarding this since i'm waiting for a reply from my friend at Mitsubishi Motors Europe.

AFAIK as of now, this has been seen only at the UK. Its distributor, The Colt Car Company for all these years has been fond of making their own versions and customized editions from the current line-up. For the info of everyone, their best known project is the Lancer Evolution FQ series... uhm... FQ meaning F**king Quick! hehehe...

Yep, the LC200 4.5 V8, the baddest Diesel engine from Japan... no doubt about it.

*LR777,

Enjoy the Theme Song of the Dakar Rally: Sama Amie by Wock ... I'm sure u will enjoy it as much as i do! I want to think of the Past 12 Victories of Mitsubishi with the Pajero and to think that the Strada at one time was part of a 1-2-3-4 victory finish!

Like anyone and any other company, anything new in the system will eventually be perfected... the question is How Long? and that goes for the 3.0V6 or the continuous development of the 4M4 series.

for me, time stands still on this one...

It's me wrong / mistake, sorry its a V8 for the LC200.

Well, hopefully Mitsu is developing that 3.0L V6 into production & probably the first recipient is the Pajero, wonder why the Japs, Mitsu particularly are very slow in improving their diesel tech.
Just imagine the 4M41 was introduced on 1998 & the Thailand Triton got it on 2005?
Wish ko lang, there'll be a 5th gen. Mid-sized Strada sporting this 3.0L V6.
Say their American counterparts have already ready-to-launch 2010 Half-ton Diesel like the CUMMINS, DURAMAX (kahit bankcrupt na GMC) & POWERSTROKE not to mention the EURO diesels leader of the pack.
CIAO.

with regards sa strada longbed.

thanks for posting sir ian! really enjoyed it! the video also showed when all of the drivers followed a certain driver that lead them to the wrong route...hehe...that really differentiates the good ones from the ones that only follow the leaders.......and you also got to love the Wheeling bikes on the sand as well as the ones that crash and also the cars that get stuck on the sand...hehehe....but the best part is in the 3:06 when the strada devoured the sand going down on a dune! Sweeet!

I also believe that the new technologies especially the diesel ones is still on the testing phase and its not surprising to see those kind of setbacks in that kind of conditions like the Dakar Rally. But yes they may have not succeeded on this year but its not enough to take away the 12 time championships under mitsu's belt....and who knows? maybe they've even did it on purpose to test the limits of the new machines...or an X deal maybe with VW for letting Mitsu use the diesel technology of VW on some models of Mitsu in EU(VW touareg won this year)... just thinking out loud! haha!

Great! i got you in the momentum there... i hope that would serve as a little inspiration for the (***AHEM***) ah basta... alam mo na yun!

*Mariposa, hello po. no response yet from my friend. But i have a strong feeling that this is a modification made in UK and not from Thailand.

Based from my observation, i with my acquaintance with more than half of the Strada Club members, i never heard them complain about the shortened pickup bed nor even regret their purchase of the Strada. From what i recall, Club member Moto even sighed in relief when he had to put either an ATV or a Motorbike at the truck bed and was able to close the tailgate because it was a perfect fit!

Also, the Strada with the current pickup bed is as long as the leading pickups on the market today. If this one comes up i presume the overall length will be the longest in the market. My concern is the Rear Overhang (from the tire to the eng of the truck) seems like it is good enough to hit the wall from a sharp turn. The Departure Angle makes it resemble like that of the Bus to me!

*Tancho, im not too sure of anyone buying or selling bling-bling wheel and tire packages... in case anything comes up, i will let you know asap.

Love the new Strada. Hope it reaches our shore soon.

Anyways, I'm going to Baguio this month with my GLS Sports. Question lang peeps, kaya ba ng full tank from Makati to SM Baguio?

Also, what's the best possible route? The truck will be fully loaded with 4 passengers and cargo.

TIA.

*idoy, heed to the advice of alainroyce, i do agree with him. your full tank is good enough not only to SM Baguio but around town as well.

do take note of the number coding scheme- same rules apply like Manila.

if u wish to meet me and the rest of the Baguio BOSBs, please let me know the soonest possible time. my contact number is at the contact us section of the club website. thanks.

im afraid im not too sure of the specifics of the updated strada. lets give MMPC this quarter to see if they will come up with something. it is but normal for all of us to expect an update since it has been with us in 2006. As i have mentioned in earlier posts, the Ford Ranger which was introduced a few months later than the Strada- yun pa ang naunang nag pa-facelift!

if its ok with u, please pepper (kulit) your SA with the update for the strada. Im positive that MMPC wont want to be left behind. In case info has been shared with you, please share it here too. HtH.

I have my doubts on the long bed strada ever be brought here in the Philippines considering that it is manufactured yet in UK. Eh kung yung single cab strada nga di na nakarating dito, gawa na yan sa Thailand. Just my opinion.

For those needing extra bed space, available naman locally yung bed extender. Here's a pic:
