You must be talking about the old bulky external hard drives. I am using the new generation slim type which is USB powered so no separate power supply needed. They work fine on my laptop. I can see power light on it when connected to the JVC unit but it just can't access it.

Mga fellow club members, you guys wont believe what happened to my strada today.. I was cruising * 100kph on the skyway going to makati when suddeny my front right fender just flew off! It was literally ripped off my car! WTF!! I am 100% sure that I did not hit anything. No car was even near me. I was also in the left most lane so it was impossibe that I hit something on the right side. And no damage was done on the cars body. Yung fender lang talaga ang basta na lang lumipad. It was never taken off before so hindi ko talaga alam ano nangyari. Buti na lang walang tinamaan na ibang car. Damnt I am so pissed off!

I went straight to Citimotors Makati since it is on the way and hindi sila maniwala sa nangyari. Mga bros at sa mga club officers natin, what do you think I should do? Help naman. Im starting to think that I got a freakin lemon!

I took pictures.. check them out.

louchua: wow, i saw the picture and read your story. that shouldnt happen. i havent experienced fender flares flying off because of high speed. even my old ride, ive driven it about 160kph never had problem with the fender flare coming off. well, one reason i can think of is speed. the wind just went between the body and flaring and eventually the pressure was too much so it ripped the flaring off. scarey...its good no cars was around. were you able to get the flares that flew off? what did the people from casa say?

i think you should write a formal complaint to the dealer and include mmpc and tell them what happened. for me..thats just pure bad workmanship or design flaw of the flarings. did you notice if your any part of your flaring was not flatly installed? (i mean before the incident).

i think from the investigation they can see the culprit of why your flares flew off. from your pictures, i see the flaring are installed using clips only and screws at the front. maybe clips are not durable and should be installed using screws. maybe that can fix the problem.

let us know the findings they give and what they will do. because maybe the car didnt have wind testing that included the fender flares. i dont think its lemon car because lemon cars usually related to mechanics things not asthetics parts. but there must be something wrong with fit and finish.

guys who had fender flares installed, how did they install your flarings? if you were there when they installed it, please elaborate on how they installed your flarings and maybe that might help us in the future.

Was there any telltale signs of cracks between the flares and the body? It must have vibrate and created some strange noise before getting ripped off.

i agree with DonT. there must have been some signs (audible) before that incident. i remember when i was driving along star hwy sa old ride ko..i heard some slapping or whirling sounds..when i slowed down and check.i thought its the rubber of the sunroof.hindi pla.so drove again..this time while driving.i opened the sunroof and felt the rubber..it wasnt that...finally i discovered the rubber around the body and windshield glass it was coming loose..too bad i didnt have any silicon with me...so drove slow lang.

i bet there was a gap somewhere between the flare and body that started the pressure difference and eventually ripped the flares off.

let us know what happens after writing a complaint and having them investigate on it.

sana they will replace that part for you for free

do our stradas equipped with a/c filter? kinda tired of reading the manual. a/c filter would be a great help since dust will not accumulate in the evaporator preventing unwanted a/c cleaning. my last two vehicles were equipped with filters and never did i went of having my a/c evaporator cleaned unlike my first pick-up where i have the to schedule the cleaning once every year for the a/c's to perform in top condition.

btw, what happen to those who planned to upgrade their ecu's? any news?

Regarding my previous plan to have a chip upgrade, well, I didn't pursue it because of some reasons:

1. Cost - the expensive, though I think, good ones, are about 50-60k pesos, while the cheaper ones are about 30k, either not plug-n-play or no shop to show.

2. Warranty concern - even if it's plug-n-play, if something happens to the engine, the factory computer might detect some re-programming. Then came the story of egayski about the stalling/choking engine.

3. Acceptance that the 2.5L engine has more than enough power and realization that pick-up trucks are not race cars

the aux line in is installed at the cd changer wiring harness.

The probable reason why your JVC unit cannot access the drive may be insufficient power provided by the USB port of the HU (although I vaguely recall a JVC salesperson telling me that their HUs can only support up to around 10 Gb drives only.

As I mentioned in my previous post, the HUs usually only supply up to 500mA of power via USB port so you need a special cable to supply additional power via the auxiliary power adaptor.

Wow! First time I heard of fender flares flying off. There must have been a problem when they installed the flares (maybe the clips were defective).

I got my flares from Carryboy and they use screws to keep it affixed to its position. I did notice before that the technicians there failed to tightly screw on the screws so I had to tighten them myself. I regularly check the screws of the flares whenever I wash the truck.

The pioneer 7950UB HU already has both an extension USB cable and an auxiliary in wire for other types of music players.

That was probably the case.. Faulty installation lang somehow nagkaroon ng gap beetwen the flares the the fender itself. No I did not notice any part of my flares improperly installed. I heard a cracking sound before the fender flare got ripped off but I did notice anything prior to that. I've had the car for almost 9 months now. And to think na I just had my car serviced yesterday! Bad trip talaga. And no, I was not able to recover the ripped off part of the fender flare. The whole thing flew off and over the Skyway. Sana na lang walang binagsakan na car sa baba. When I took the car to casa, they said impossible daw na nangyari yun. My reply was "panong impossible e nangyari na nga?!" If they dont replace it for free, i have no choice but to have my insurance company take care of it. I will be writing my formal complaint to the dealer and MMPC first thing tomorow. Will keep you guys posted. Grrrr...

What a flop, sir louchua, bad trip nga yang nangyari sa yo. We’ll be interested in what your dealer’s response to your complaint. This early, basing on the account that you have relayed and images that you posted, I can surmise that this most probably is a case of a lapse in quality control, trivial it may seem.

Mga BOSB, question lang regarding mga strada na may pre-installed fender flares, nakakabit na ba ito from Thailand when it was imported or was it installed dito sa factory warehouse ng Mitsubishi prior to its release?

The reason why I’m asking is to give us an idea where the quality control lapse occurred and remedial measures can probably be recommended to Mitsubishi Philippines to adopt.

Good morning sir Boz. I already have raised the concern to sir av8or5, please check the strada club thread. I think he already has previous communications with MMPC for some other concerns. I suggest that we let the officers of the club handle this at the appropriate time. Let's give the dealer an opportunity to respond to sir louchua's letter complaint.

Sir louchua, please provide a copy of your letter complaint to MMPC and the officers of the Strada Club, so they will be kept informed first hand.

BOSB, i saw the pics louchua posted regarding his torn fender flare, mas madami pa screws yung factory installed versus those installed by miggyboy sa glx ko. dun sa mga aftermarket fender flares, wala drilling sa body, they just intall it with the existing screws underneath sa wheel well with 2-3 clips lang to support. ok naman yung sa akin, i drove my ride sa nlex 160 kph, wala naman nangyari... i could only surmise na baka di nailagay yung complete screws ng fender flare ni sir louchua or di na-tighten ng maayos when it was given to him sa casa. anyway, the insurance company will surely shoulder the replacement of sir louchua's torn fender flare, with the agreed participation fee, but mitsubishi phils should be informed and take the neccessary action to prevent the same freak incident in the future. kakatakot din yun.

sir louchua, update mo kami sa development ng complaint mo, buti na lang wala damage sa body ng ride mo and wala ka katabi... lets just pray na wala din tinamaan pagbagsak nung fender flare mo sa baba ng skyway

Sir louchua, I can only think of one reason why your fender flare got ripped off at high speed: Majority of the clips used were either loose, weak/defective.

My right fender flare figured in an accident sometime last november. It obtained very slight damages like scratches and minor disalignment to the bumper, hence, the lower front portion of the fender flare is no longer clipped perfectly to the side of the bumper. Usually I would see a big gap between the right fender flare and the bumper. Those who have been to the 2nd eb (pauland) saw that huge gap between my right fender flare and the bumper. I also go to Batangas weekly and hit around 120kph sa skyway and 140-160kph sa star tollway. Inspite of the said existing gap and the speed that i usually take, my fender flare is still intact.

So my guess, sir louchua, is that the clips of your fender flare were defective ever since you bought your unit. It should be covered by the warranty.

Sir louchua, go directly to your SA/dealer and inform them about what happened and insist that they replace the fender flare free of charge. If that doesn't work, write a fomal letter/complaint addressed to them and furnish MMPC with a copy of that letter. If all else fails and if you plan to pusue a legal action against them, do let us know. We are here to help you.

u hve to modify the usb cable, since the head unit only support 500ma of power, but before u do that make sure that ur jvc head unit can support the capacity of the drives. i'm using pioneer 7950ub head unit, and its work well for me, 40 gig laptop usb drive.

i have installed the fender flare personaly. its 2 metal screw and sevel clips.
its should go off otherwise the fender flare will rip. i think what happen to sir louchua is that the clip is not properly fit., i hve this problem when i'm installing it. its hard to lock the clip to the body properly. I already drove my car to 160kph but nothin happen. it still as stiff as before.

sometimes it might happen this way. It was wayback 10 years ago, me and my friend have his strada serviced, but when its done the stereo sub hve been damaged and we let them pay the damages. while we where walking inside the casa my other friend complained about his lancer regarding the repainting job of his side mirror. cause he caught the service personnel repairing his side mirror due to scratches. May be this might happen to you, they have scratch it and repair it. but during the installation they hve not fit it well. Hope this are not the case but it can happen

i am quite surprised myself that something as INTACT

as fender flares would suddenly declare freedom! pati yung extension nya mounted at the bumper flew! Question po: based on your picture, i do see the mountings for the screw- is the bracket holding the flare still there or is it just the hole nalang? if you see the hole nalang, try to see if the screw might still be inside the fender. also, since the fender flare area shows dried up murky water and other possible external elements- proves that not only water passes through, but also air produced by speed pulling the moulding away from the body. was there any small opening or a crack on the sealants? you can check on that with the other remaining flares

i agree with av8or5- write a letter of complaint to MMPC and the Dealer (c/o the service manager)- as for MMPC- the service department should be it. the email address is found on the service manual- please PM me if that didn't work and i'll think of something brilliant, i have someone in mind. ok bro!

to follow up on what DonT asked you- about certain vibrations or strange noises, did you notice anything or was your stereo on? or perhaps the vibration may not be too strong for you as the new strada has good sound insulation.

as asked by ooba99- the fender flares are also installed at the thailand factory. built up before it goes inside the ship. when i visited the MMPC plant a few years ago, the assembly of a High-Grade Adventure Super Sport calls for hole-boring for the flares before the CEDP paint process starts. I presume that this principle applies to the Strada.

this must be replaced by the plant within warranty as this shows questionable workmanship. but i will try to go to motorplaza to read over the warranty booklet- again.
