hi mga sir! just wanted to ask what's the main differences between a carnival and a sedona?

i have a pajero subic right now and my friend wants to swap his 2000 Carnival LS manual trans. Anything important I need to watch out for aside from the normal checks for acquiring a 2nd hand car?...

All the information you need has already been discussed before, but in a nutshell, there is no difference between a Carnival and a Sedona. The first generation was named Carnival, the second gen (around year 2002) was named Sedona, following the name used in the US market. If you get a 2nd gen unit from the grey market, it will most likely bear the Carnival instead of the Sedona badge.

The year 2000 model you mentioned is most likely a 1st gen Carnival, like this one:



It has a different hood scoop, fog lamps, and rear tail lamps compared with the 2nd gen Sedona. The 1st gen doesn't have lock-open sliding doors either.

The main thing to watch out for in the 1st gen release is the oil pump chain (it makes a grinding noise when it's about to break). Maybe the other members can recall other problem areas.

Yup, puro lubak yung highway, tapos baha pa dahil sa bagyo. Buti na lang mas konti daw ang lumuwas dahil may pasok sa Nov. 2. Hindi ko masyado naramdaman ang traffic dahil dumaan ako sa secondary streets kanina, although I only pass these when driving the Starex. Hindi kaya ng powers ko na ilusot sa sobrang kitid na daan ang Sedona. Pag nagkamali kasi ng estimate, sa rice field (which is about 2 feet lower than the road) na ang bagsak ng gulong ko

hi sir mikey, tnx for replying. it looks like that, but it's 2 tone. is there anyway to tell if it's gray market sir? also, about the lock-open sliding doors, what do you mean, hndi iilaw sa dash console yung warning light kung bukas pa yung sliding doors?

The two tone means that the unit you are looking is the LS version, the higher end version of the carnival with more features.

The lock open sliding doors are also available on gen 1 carnival ls. It means that the two sliding doors would not slide shut unless you pull/activate the door levers thereby preventing any accidental injury due to unwanted sudden closing of the sliding doors.

There is basically no difference between a gray market unit and locally distributed carnivals ( because the locals were brought here as CBU's from korea) except that the gray market units had more gizmos/creature comfort thingmagajigs that came with it. Some of these features in the gray market unit are taken out from the local carnival to lower the price and make it more competetive.

Personally, i would take a gray market unit with full options anytime than a stripped down local carnival

ok, guys pasensya na. here is the rear tire and you can see that the INNER tread is much more worn than the outer side.

the same thing used to happen on my old toyota corolla and when i had it checked for camber correction, they said there was nothing wrong and this was common to city cars. so any of you guys have the same experience? sayang kasi dahil ang kapal pa nung othere side of the tread.

yup! my gray market carnival is a monotone white and it looks like a local RS variant till you look inside and see that some features beat the local LS version (2 extra jumpseats that can act as armrests when folded, moonroof, climate control, rear power windows)

thanks sir Jabr! Yes, I checked the badge it is a LS version. Looks like a I got a local version because there's no moonroof, climate control, etc...but there' s lot of cupholders! which is perfect because I exchanged my pajero for this to be my family carrier anyway. just got it today, and am very excited!

it has 2 captain seats for the 2nd row and a full length 3rd row seat which only folds down (does not fold down then fold forward parang sa mga innova).

it's at 57k right now, should I be replacing the oil pump chain when it hits 60k? Parang nabasa ko dito sa thread a few pages back e. The front windows are a bit sticky though, ano kaya pang ayos dun? alignment? as in it'll take almost 20 seconds for it to be fully closed from being fully open. the driver door does need to be slammed closed a bit, baka wala ata sa alignment.

anything else i need to watch out for mga sir? tnx in advance!

All the while I thought all LS units had a moonroof, and the RS units were the ones without it. Does the unit you got have ABS?

Also, is there no sign of collision damage on the driver side door? I find it easier to close the front doors of my 2002 Sedona compared with my 2006 Starex, the latter requiring more force to close fully.

You can have someone check the power window on the driver side door, maybe there is just some dirt in the mechanism that keeps it from closing at the right speed. OTOH, maybe the motor driving the window is nearing the end of its life. Does it sound labored when you operate it, compared with the motor for the passenger side power window?

hi sir mikey! about the moonroof, wala yung sakin sir, parang gusto ko nga magpalagay, yung pajero (subic) ko kasi na i traded in for the carnival had one na miss ng misis ko maganda daw kasi 4 the baby maliwanag kahit kagabi na.

mukang may abs sir, pero driver's side lang. nakalagay sa steering wheel, hopefully hndi naman pinalitan lang yung wheel. mukang ok naman, kasi all stock siya, yung radio nga lang, maarte yung cd player ayaw mag play ng pirated :P

the driver's side door baka mukang walang bangga naman dati, kinatok ko na all around the vehicle and inspected the sidelines mukang ok pa naman, pantay lahat. baka nawala lang sa align, pa check ko na lang when i get new tint. yung windows, both driver and passenger mabagal na sobra, wala naman malakas na sound coming from inside the door so it might mean kulang lang sa grease? not sure.

also when i start it from overnight (sa umaga), mababa yung idling, nasa 400 lang ata and takes around 5 mins. to warm up to 900. anybody/anywhere kaya sir i can obtain a manual from? nawala na nung prev. owner kasi...

anyway, i'm still not sure if i got a gen 1 or 2, but here it is, para kayo ng mga expert maka pagsabi. Btw, hndi ko mahanap yung card holder above the aircon vent in the driver's side, weird?

Gen 1 Carnival LS nga yung unit mo, shauntot. Yung mga RS kasi monotone, yung LS ang may two-tone body color. Mukhang maganda at sariwa pa yung unit mo, congrats.

Yung card holder sa dashboard, sa Gen 2 Sedona RS nagsimula yon. It's located where your power side mirror controls are (the side mirror controls for the Gen 2 are on the driver side door already).

IIRC, altec offered to have his Gen 2 Sedona manual scanned. Check out this part of the thread for details.

Mayroon bang choke knob sa dash ang unit mo? Yung Gen 2 Sedona kasi may choke knob na pwede mo gamitin pag cold start sa umaga.

tnx for confiming sir mikey, sana nga walang problema, makinis pa naman siya kahit papano. walang choke sa dash, or baka hndi ko lang nakikita. anywhere specific i need to look? medyo malakas nga vibration pag cold start pero pag tagal nawawala rin

check out the lower left portion of the second-to-the-last photo you posted (kia2.jpg). Dun sa ilalim ng dash, below the fuel filler lid release and parking brake release, there's a small circle with a yellow marking. Isn't that the choke knob? That's approximately where mine is located.

mikey - sharp eye sir! oo nga no, meron. tingnan ko nga mamaya. pardon my ignorance but this is a 1st for me, san/when mismo ginagamit yang choke? alam ko meron pajero ko din nun, but never had to use so i don't really know :D

useless naman yung choke knob na yan eh. ours also have one. pero disabled. automatic choke na ang j3 engine.
