    Mga kapatid sa Carnival,
I am experiencing some problems starting my 2002 kia carnival LS diesel.
The 1st time this happened was after parking the car near a fastfood store to buy food. So turned off the engine when out came back then turned the ingition key.... nothing happened, cara won't start. No noise of engine cranking up. I can only hear a slight click sound during turn on of ignition key. Sinubukan ko ng ilang beses pero ganun parin. Then i decided to look for a mechanic, thinking baka battery lang, buti nalang meron malapit na Motolite dealer. Kind naman yung sales guy and check nya status of my motolite Gold battery (75A). Turns out okay pa ang battery, pero ayaw pa rin mag start. Then after so banging (kunwa) and closing the hood, bigla na start. This happened 2nd time while parked sa Roxas blvd.
Can the problem be because of the engine starter?
I plan to have it check this weekend, nag start pa naman sya for 2 day na. Pero i notice na medyo may konti hingalo. Not like before one-click start.

Hindi naman siguro magnetic switch ang problema gaya ng nangyari kay rodski, kasi sabi mo kahit crank-up sound wala.

Maybe it is the starter motor, or maybe a loose battery connection? Anyway, do let us know what the findings of the check-up are.

the o ring cost me 100 pesos, claimed it kasi under warranty, don't know why the o ring wasnt included though. Will ask them, kasi my sedona is in the casa, calibrate injection pump, under warranty. I said duda ako di yun injection pump, baka bearing lang, kasi may whining sound ako marinig when you rev it. Casa insisted its injection pump, I grudgingly agreed, kasi naman under warranty. Let's see if mawala yung ingay.

    Bro,

The same situation happened to me just few days ago, in my case, the problem was attributed only to battery corrosion (the technician just cleaned the contact points with water). Similarly, please check battery connection, might be loose as the other Peep suspects. Hope this helps.

What did you mean by '...after so banging...'? Did you mean you hammered on the battery clamps/connecter to tighten it? Not a recommended move since it might damage the battery.

fried bangus, are you asking about the engine number? If so, you can find it at the lower front left portion of the engine after taking out the air filter intake and some other stuff.

guys, got my sedona back from warranty claim on the injection pump. Didn't notice any significant change in the noise, although I noticed a slight dull taktak sound very typical of diesel that I didn't notice in my engine before. Need to send it back though coz there is a rattle that I could hear under the dashboard by the driver side.

Anyway, I tested the unit in the highway in my area. Similar to what we did with the innova users. 2.9tdic manual 03 sedona ls local version, 3 people, dual aircon on, fifth gear: 2K rpm = 83-85kph, 2500rpm = 103-105kph 3Krpm = 123-125kph. Didn't try beyond 3K, ran out of space due to traffic. Noticed no loss of momentum every 500rpm = 20kph increase. Note: no biodiesel used in this particular load.

hmmm... 2k rpm with my a/t at final drive is 100kph yata.

mikey, can you check if the filter media can still block water at this point?

Mmmm, how do I do that?

Gusto mo iwan ko na lang yung filter sa store nyo? Mechanically challenged kasi ako pagdating sa fuel filter operation

There's this haripin turn at my place which is a bit tight for the carnival so i anticipate it by stopping and turning the wheel to the max to the left before proceeding. yesterday when i had come out of the turn, the steering wheel suddenly felt jammed, then i realized power steering was gone.

our carnivals are heavy machines so i almost cramped twisting the wheel with full exertion. i turned the iginition off and checked the power steering fluid. level was ok. i checked the ground for any sign of dripping fluid, nothing. i expected a busted hose and fluid spraying everywhere but it was clean. i tried it turning the car on and off, but no change.

being late, i decided i would bring it to the casa next day. but lo and behold when i tried it this morning, problem was gone and all was ok. what the heck?? i'm thankful but fearful at the same time.

anybody else experience this? i remember a comment from the thread that you should not turn the wheel at max for a long time, how come? any comments and insights would be appreciated.
well, after doing nothing, it just went back to normal. guess i'll have to chalk it up as just one of those weird things.

About two months ago I noticed a strange humming sound (ugong) from the front of my Sedona. I thought at that time that it was just road noise from the new tires I bought (Dunlop EC 201), but after researching a bit on various "ugong" threads on Tsikot, I found out that it might be the wheel bearings.

Anyway, I had the van inspected today and as it turns out, my left and right front wheel bearings were already eroded to the point that they were causing the ugong that I could hear at both low and high speeds.

The replacement bearings at our local auto supply store cost P2,800 each. After they were installed, my ride became its normal quiet self again.

    Just wanted to share

mikey, that's good news that you found the source of the sound and its not the tires. I got 1 pc of the same tire but havent used it as its still as a spare. But I think I may need to replace my oem tires as I notice the rear is starting to wobble the whole rear of the car, and may make the passengers dizzy.

mikey, sure, you can drop it off at the shop. sayang nga... i was there three days ago kaya lang i haven't ventured into these forums yet kc. sana na-sms kita noon.
i remember replacing the bearings in my nissan patrol at least every 50k km. same thing din, may ugong. our kias are heavy cars -- that's why i am not the least bit surprised that they erode wheel bearings too.

btw, my carnival figured in a low speed fender-bender with a security agency's revo last week. the revo's bumper and headlight and signal light cluster were damaged. my vehicle suffered a dent and a major scratch less than a foot long above the rear wheel well. not a good idea to engage into a long argument with a brimming with jaguars. i just let them off after the incident report was filed.

i'm off to the pdr and paint forums this time!

altec, i absolutely love the dunlop lemans rv tire i have on my vehicle right now. my only gripe is that they wear out too fast. they are just ten months young but they look three years old now. i might be getting new tires by july again.

jabr, my unit is from the gray market. my dealer told me that the 2006 grand carnival isn't available here yet.

Guys, i just want to know what's the correct tire pressure (PSI) for the Sedona...

seems like the front of Sedona is too heavy.. I already put 38 psi (I use Nitro) but it still has lump (Parang medyo plat pa rin) most especially when I parked it on uneven pavement...

    thanks..
