Ah yes, I did'nt realize before that this was a significant amount, at 10,000 kilometers of free fuel, that's like having free fuel for a year! Thanks for pointing that out CVT!![]()
Generally, Mas matipid sa diesel and CRDi, kasi, nakukuha nya agad ang higher Horsepower at a lower RPM. Tsaka mas oks talaga ang CRDi. Sa laki at bigat ng body ng Grand Starex, underpower ka kapag TCi lang engine mo, which is parang 105 to 110 HP lang ata, compared sa 174 hp ng CRDi. Pag medyo 3 years old na engine, malamang mag usok na sya.

That's what I am worried about bro. The additional 500Kg in the Gen4 body (vs. the Gen3) may be a bit challenging on the TCi engine.
However, the difference between the same "general variants" of the TCi and CRDi VGT is about P300K. This is just a bit too much upfront cost...

I agree, essentially, that's 300K for an engine upgrade.....
That's why, I'm now thinking if a GS with just TCi engine is an OK choice for my kids school "hatid-sundo", and occational twice a year provincial trips..
I'm using a Gen3 CRDi now, and love the power in this engine that I swore never to go back to regular diesel engines again, but the 300K difference makes me think twice...hehe.
Same here bro. I am in the process of replacing our 2005 GRX TCI AT, if I get the necessary funding, and from the looks of it, I think I'll be ending up with the TCI MT variant, or another van... For the Gen4, the switch from MT to AT of the same engine variant amounts to P170K and the switch from TCI to CRDi VGT is about just what you said....
I remembered complaining to HARI when I bought my Gen3 that their MT>AT upgrade was the most expensive in the industry. It was then P70K, if I remember correctly. Now, it has more than doubled.... Well.....

hi everyone! very thankful for the info found on this forum. i just want to inform the others who posted inquiries about rear wipers. i just came from HARI quezon ave. today and their units now have rear wipers. from tci up.additional 5k on the price tag though.
i'm deciding on whether to get a tci manual 10 seater or not. can't afford the higher models. anyone else has this model who wants to share his/her experiences? thanks!
Bro.,- try this Hyundai forum.... Graystar and TED both own a GS TCI MT.... Read through the threads....

Yeah, I suggest you check specifically the Starex General thread at Hyundai Auto Club Phils. (HACP). I have posted a lot of threads and replies specifically on the Grand Starex (all variants including Limousine) under my handle Graystar.
Here is the link : http://hyundaiclubph.proboards.com/i...=starexgeneral
Anyway, as a future GS TCi M/T owner, you won't regret your decision to purchase one. For one, you will get a bit more features than us who bought way back early 2008. For one, the P5K for the rear wiper/washer is well worth it if you plan to use it, but for those of us who have dreams of upgrading to the rear wiper with washer will have to shell almost P100K just for that modification (change of rear windshield, molding, etc. etc.).
If you need more opinions and feedback before deciding on a purchase, join one of the EBs of the Hyundai Starex owners so you can make a comparison of the different offerings. While the GS TCi M/T is relatively expensive at P1.208M, it is still cheaper than the CRDI A/T variants which go for almost P1.7M. CVT has already thoroughly analyzed the pros and cons of each variant, and based on the feedback he's provided, the GS TCi M/T is considered value for money.
would the GRX rear wiper be easier and cheaper to install on the GS? or would it look weird?
Thanks CVT and GSTM9/Graystar! I accidentally found the HACP site last night after posting my comment. Your (GSTM9) comments, together with another owner of a TCi M/T, were extremely helpful. What I need now is to test drive the damn thing. HARI Quezon Ave. only had one unit and it was on the showroom floor. We might schedule something with them this week or I'll try out other dealerships. I need to get a feel for it since my last Starex was a 98 non-turbo version. That was so slow. Good thing it was ok since I usually don't drive like a crazy person in the streets of the metro.
As for dealerships, I've spoken to two, Quezon Ave and another one. People from Quezon Ave. seem to know more about the TCi and they have an actual unit. The other (which I won't name for now) was not too knowledgeable and I would wait for indent order but can give me a 50K discount. Quezon Ave. can only offer 20K. Heck! With the additional 30K discount and me getting knowledge from fellow tsikoters, the second dealer is looking pretty good. We'll see how it goes.
Honestly, the rear wiper is not a big ticket or a must have for me, because in my almost 5 years of ownership of my Gen3. I never used my rear wiper.... Really!
(The same is true with my 10-year old Vanette....I never used my rear wiper.....)
