I finally took the GS TCi M/T for a test drive today. I went to HARI Pasig. I liked it. It didn't feel underpowered...to me that is. I also sat at the back during the test drive and it was also fine. I didn't feel the ride to be bouncy or stiff. I also loved the spaciousness of the 10-seater. The only thing I hated was it didn't have power locks. It's so difficult not to have such a feature on a big van. Well, mura lang naman magpakabit nun...pero nakakainis.

Like HARI Quezon Ave., they can only offer 20K discount. They said (in a let-me-let-you-doubt-the-other-offer tone) that some dealerships will promise big discounts and not be able to deliver on it after. For me, 50K is 50K. And since I'm in no hurry, I'll consider that offer to be real until proven otherwise.

I'm getting closer to pulling the trigger on this one. I'm giving myself a few days to digest all the data I've gathered and of course, wait for what the banks will say when it comes to the loan.

Oh I forgot to mention that HARI Pasig nor the other dealership are asking for additional 5K for the rear wiper. It's included in the regular price. I wonder why Quezon Ave. was charging extra for that.

CVT, I use rear wipers especially on rainy provincial trips so it's useful for me. People are right about the ugly antena though but that's something I can live with.

When we bought our Starex GRX in 2005 we went to a lot of dealers and eventually ended up in Hyundai Edsa (the one in Guadalupe Makati) simply because they were the ones who offered the most generous discount, Hyundai New Manila(Wheels) eventually tried to match Hyundai Edsa's offer but we felt it was right to just buy it from Hyundai Edsa since they were more up front with us from the start.

In the case of our Grand Starex, we just went to Pitstop Motors and got a gray market unit from them since they matched the 5 year warranty that the HARI units get, I didn't really look at the HARI offerings anymore because I really hated the way the roof mounted antenna looked on the HARI units as opposed to the glass mounted antenna on the gray market units. That alone made me decide to go for the gray market.

Bro.,- why don't you try getting in touch with Hyundai in Macapagal Ave.,- Manila Bay(?).... I heard from a couple of friends that they're aggressive in securing an order for their units.... Good luck. I might follow suit, i.e. I'll buy a GS, in a few weeks/days if everything turns out well on my side.... I'll be contacting Hyundai Alabang and Manila Bay, most probably since we're in SouthMM....

What I need now is to test drive the damn thing. HARI Quezon Ave. only had one unit and it was on the showroom floor. We might schedule something with them this week or I'll try out other dealerships. I need to get a feel for it since my last Starex was a 98 non-turbo version. That was so slow. Good thing it was ok since I usually don't drive like a crazy person in the streets of the metro.

As for dealerships, I've spoken to two, Quezon Ave and another one. People from Quezon Ave. seem to know more about the TCi and they have an actual unit. The other (which I won't name for now) was not too knowledgeable and I would wait for indent order but can give me a 50K discount. Quezon Ave. can only offer 20K. Heck! With the additional 30K discount and me getting knowledge from fellow tsikoters, the second dealer is looking pretty good. We'll see how it goes.

Bro.,- kindly PM me who this dealer is,- I might be contacting them in a short while, (hopefully).... TIA

GSTM9 - Did u put in keyless entry or auto locks for your GS Tci? If yes, where and how much? Also, how much does your insurance come out on the 2nd or 3rd year? Thanks!

Yes I had both installed including an Autopage alarm. The alarm I believe cost P8000 and the keyless entry about P6000. This was the first upgrade I had done even before I drove the unit out of Hyundai Pasig. The selection at the casa is usually limited (3-5 models only) so you can probably go to your suking accessories shop if you want more options.

As for insurance, I didn't get the one that came with the in-house deal. I remember I paid a little over P23K for the first year insurance, and slightly less for the succeeding year (2009). If you want details, PM me so I can give you the contact name and number of my friend who procured insurance for me.

Yes I had both installed including an Code alarm (CA120). Everything cost me P13300 back in January 2008. This was the first upgrade I had done even before I drove the unit out of Hyundai Pasig. The selection at the casa is usually limited (3-5 models only) so you can probably go to your suking accessories shop if you want more options. The alarm will generally be much cheaper than that at the casa.

Thanks again! I'm trying to determine all the possible expenses associated with this purchase. Will PM you for the details of the insurance guys. I'm now 98% sure of doing this purchase. The remaining 1% is for the bank saying "go to hell!" and another 1% is in case my commitment phobia comes knocking. Only left to figure out is when, how and with whom.

OT - I saw on HACP threads that you and Ted are in Pasig. I work in Ortigas and would be happy to check out your GS one of these days.

Yup! We have a very tight budget. For the additional 170K, I'll just let the driver drive it more often.

I agree with this especially if you are going to have the driver bring the vehicle most of the time. Exactly the same discussion we had given the GS variant we had to choose. But make sure your driver is not a clutch driver, the GS TCi M/T rear axle tends to react if the driver shifts gears haphazardly or lets the engine speed drop below 1000RPM before downshifting.

You are most welcome to meet up with me and Ted and other GS TCi owners. We were at Hyundai Pasig yesterday and had the 15000 km PMS done for my GS. Usually weekends would be the best time, there is a TCi A/T owner who just joined HACP recently and has met Ted already. I am looking forward to the day where we can have over 5 GS owners in a mini EB (so far, the most we've had is 3 during the HACP GEBs).

OT: Today we have another impromptu EB with Starex and other Hyundai owners but you are most welcome to join us on September 13 GEB (just check the HACP boards). I reckon we will easily gather 5 GS owners by then, including future owners like you and CVT.

Anybody have feedback on this model regarding the metal durability/thickness of the actual doors/sides?

Vans and similar vehicles really tend to be less durable in this department, and we may be looking to replace our old Hi-Ace with either another one or a Starex.

Ang nipis ng bakal sa lumang HiAce e (and I'd suspect, most other vans of that era as well), nakakatakot isipin how bad a side collision will be especially compared with the relatively thicker doors/sides of at least, a compact passenger car.

After weeks of deliberating, negotiating with banks, dealers and even insurance agents, I have finally brought home my GS TCi M/T (10-seater)! For me, half the fun was the hard work involved with the purchase. Obviously, the other half is driving it.

Here a few things I wish to share.

I called or visited ALL the Metro Manila and some provincial HARI dealers. Narrowed my choices between two of them. (People must note that it is EXTREMELY difficult to find this particular model.) I decided to go for Hyundai Laguna (yes Laguna!) because they were going to give me a large discount and free LTO registration...WOW! We were in constant communication for about a week and they knew exactly what I wanted down to the color.

Today, my bank was ready to send the PO to the dealer after getting all the details. When I called Hyundai Laguna, the girl said, "Tumawag na po yung banko ninyo. Sir, nagkamali pala ang manager ko. 12-seater pala yung nandito." (This is after a week of being pratically phone pals with this woman.) She continued by saying, "Sir, sorry po. Maghahanap po ako kung sino ang meron." At this point I was fuming. She calls me back and says, "Meron po akong nakita pero di po pwede yung discount na sinabi ko." She starts telling me how it is not their dealership's unit so the discount they can offer is essentially the same one everybody else is giving.

The funny thing is...while I was waiting for the P.O. to be sent to HARI Laguna and before all the s**t hit the fan, Sir LUI, one of the tsikoters here, texted me asking if I had decided on where to buy the unit. He was one of the 2 people I was considering to get from. Unfortunately, Laguna, had "more" to offer. Not by much though. As soon as Laguna made my blood boil, I immediately called LUI to get his details. I instructed my bank to move my purchase to LUI (HARI Abad Santos) and arrange for everything. Laguna was trying to haggle but I put the phone down on them.

I highly recommend working with Lui and he didn't promise anything he couldn't deliver. Should have trusted my instincts and I would have probably had a lighter day. By the way, I'm in no way related nor do I get commissions from his Sales...unless he offers. He just made my life a little easier today. Thanks!

Next time, I'll talk about my fabulous bank and where I got my insurance. Now it's time to take this baby for a spin!

Lui is a trusted and straightforward car sales agent for Hyundai and Mitsubishi. He helped me acquire fast a Montero Sport recently at a time that there was a long waiting time for a unit. Mabuhay ka, Lui.

    Congrats on your new ride!

Do you think trading my 2008 Town and Country chrysler is worth it for a top of the line HVX GS?

Luxurious as it may be, the TC gulps gas as if there's no tomorrow given its 3.8L V6 displacement. How does the HVX GS fare on this department?

    Thanks
