well gen 3 rides softer, gen 4 rides more stable..

and sa power this will testify the power of starex vgt..

nag test kami ng bestfriend ko ( auroraoffroader here in tsikot ) head to head acceleration with his new strada gls 3.2 a/t and our grand starex vgt 2.5 a/t
    0-120 km/h i think....

mas lamang ang strada sa starex for i think 3 seconds from stop because of his 3.2 engine.. BUT beyond that 3 or 4 seconds, the rest is history.. hehe
starex on its way to victory... I really love that VGT..

We were surprised even we know starex 2.5 170 hp is powerful than 160 hp of strada because starex weigh 2.2 tons while strada 1.8 ton only..
and the G-force feels stronger on strada when accelerating...
well strada 3.2 can outrun 2.7vvti of fortuner...
still waiting for 3.0 hilux and 3.0 fortuner test...

curious lang kami sa mga engines... test lang naman.. hehe

ganyan kalakas starex kahit di nyo na subukan..

hehehe! not surprised about the starex's performance. a big chunk of that was already available in the Gen 3 CRDi powerplant, but then, there was a delay in the turbo spooling up, so standstill to about 2500 rpm was slow, then boom! take off!

since you mentioned 3 to 4 seconds before the starex caught up, did you notice at what rpm the turbo kicked in?

    between 1800 t0 2000 rpm..

we did a test drive again..
    0 - 100 kph, 14 seconds for both car

now im impressed with the strading
    its a tie...

final verdict, starex can caught up to about 5 seconds then its a head tie

but when i used handbrake plus slight revolution at standstill just for the vgt
to kick in.. its starex on its way.. but strada only behind.. di mo sya maiiwan..
thats all.. its enough na.. hehe

Well, I doubt maiiwanan mo talaga yung Strada on a straight-away with both of you going full throttle. But being able to perform as you had mentioned is great for a big van ;)

Went to ACE (somewhere in Makati) to get 3M nomads, those rolled up. I brought my useless Starex mats for them to use as guides for them to cut (apparently, may use pala sila). I left the mats with them and went around to buy some stuff (mostly automotive stuff of course). To make a long story short, I went home and as I laid out the mats, I realized to my horror that, they had cut them BALIKTAD, right side down for the mats in front!

What pains me is that the 3M promo girls were very nice, polite and helpful. If I were to fault anybody, I would fault 3M itself for not training them enough. Or if they aren't trained at all, then they should be trained to say that they are not trained to cut and I should cut it myself.

Does anybody know anybody from 3M I can bring this up with? I don't want to bring it back to Ace to complain, because if I do, I'm afraid the mistake is gonna be charged to the people 3M people there, which I don't want to happen. Those na may connect, please drop me an email: jermiako*yahoo.com

I spent 5k++ for the mats because I only bought for the first row and second row. I bought one of those long plastic mats and put that in the third row. Cost is 950++/feet, Starex front is 2 feet, 2nd row is 3 feet. When you bring your mats to Ace make sure you tell them that the one with the velcro side is the bottom

Sad to hear about your predicament bro.... Based on your brief description of the promo girls, I can't blame you for missing that detail when they traced the outline of your old mat and cut your new 3M matting....

On the bumpy STAR tollway, my dad and i concluded that our Fortuner's and Strada's ride are stiffer than the Grand Starex, but still we concluded that the Fortuner's ride is the stiffest among our vehicles in our garage. The Grand Starex felt confident at 160 kph, di mo ramdam na 160 kph ka na until you'll look at the speedo. Overtaking was a breeze, and the ride is still comfortable even on the 4 km rough road going to Laiya Beach. On the Sungay Road, which is very steep and ridden with sharp curves, the grand starex also faired well even though many times we had nearly called "Death" while negotiating that road. Overall, it's a good highway vehicle to have. Btw, the fuel consumption for that trip is 12.75 km/l.

Your route going up to Tagaytay is really that exhilarating, especially for a vehicle as big as the GS... I am sure that you're not wanting in power on the really steep curves, so I am not that certain why you stated that you "nearly called 'Death'". Unless of course you chanced upon a convoy of 4x4s with trailers/jet skis going down to Taal Lake.....

Bottomline, very good rate of fuel consumption.

^^ It's because during our climb, our speed was 60-70 kph, and it was turning dark when we were negotiating that road to Tagaytay. Hence the statement "nearly called Death".

I'm curious sa monthly sales figures ng Grand Starex at kung ilan ang nabebenta ng HARI vs. gray market dealers.

you might want to check pitstop, i think they're selling the original matting for the high end grand starex at 11,500 for all sets.

Bro.,- I am quite familiar with the road there. I don't think you can do 60-70KPH going up, especially since the hairpin turns occur every 3-4 of seconds. It is just too fast, IMHO... Well as you said,- "nearly called death"....

2008 Starex throwing it down on the dyno, This is a automatic transmission and do to the design of the vehicles there we can't get a accurate read below 3000rpms because the vehicle will shift out of 2nd gear. But I can assure you this is the now the fastest Starex in the Philippines. The HP/TQ gains will be much higher at 1500rpms to 2500rpms as far as the percent of power gained but you get the point.

At almost 200 wheel hp and 320 foot pounds of torque or 433nm this thing a beast. The alcohol injection alone is about equal to the unichip but when you combine the two the power goes up considerably.

Was the dyno test done on a CRDi-equipped Starex?

sorry if stupid question.... i was wondering if you buy 3m na mat, would it be better fitting? Kasi complaint ni misis is that the stock mat keeps getting bunched up. so want sana mat na can stick? or something that would fit better.

    Hi guys.

We want to get a Starex A/T next week from HARI. Choosing between the GOLD variant (1.768M) or VGT (1.598M). The difference between the two models is 170K pesos.

But comparing the features, the difference is that the GOLD variant has leather seats, the LCD monitor, and the extra airbag (2 instead of 1). If we upgrade to leather seats (from Seatmate), it would only set us back around 50K right? So we still save around 120K right?

Am I missing any other feature? Trying to justify why we should get the gold variant kasi.

Baka mas mura pa if you buy them individually.
