err...ka-level na ba hyundai ngayon sa toyota? in local consumer perception?
err...ka-level na ba hyundai ngayon sa toyota? in local consumer perception?
Just test drove the Kia Carnival LWB yesterday at the car show... It was pretty sweet... Good power (scared the guy from Kia) hit over 100km in short stretch even with traffic (Lots of people at CAMPI show).. Steering was great can drive with one hand (texting with the other, I know, I know, bad form)... Engine was quite can't hear it while idling and revs like a gasoline car when puching the gas.) Suspension not bad abit bouncy... with all the extras (power everything) the only thing that was negative to me was the crappy seat apholstery
(nothing seat covers can't fix),the limited leg room for the back seat (since those seats are for my kids and their yaya's not a problem) and the center consul is plain...
Sorry new over priced grand starex... value for PHP and no waiting for end of the year, the Kia Carnival wins...I may even buy the carnival next week...
Any comments to consider before I buy???? Anyone?:seehearspeak:
i guess the practicallity of the grand starex has been thrown out the window.. i really rather stick to me 2001 starex until it falls apart.. then maybe get a GRX CRDi... heheh,,,
i thought the crdi would sell for 1.5M and the high end modelwith dual sunroofs is at !.7M.kung 1.7 ang crdi na ilalabas ng HARI then mahal nga yan. a lot would go to thje gray market which sell the grand starex at a fraction less than 1.5M. my brother got one at standout and pagkakaalam ko vgt na siya. bahala na ang warranty kung mas mura sa gray market ng 200thou. that's a lot of money to be spent on other things.
Err.......the Previa is still one class above the Grand Starex.
Even if both are minivan/MPV, the Previa/Estima is one class higher than the new Grand Starex. So it really is an apples to oranges comparison. Not fair at all.
What the Grand Starex is competing against are the likes of the Hiace Super Grandia, Grandis and Carnival LWB CRDI.
Siguro between the three, it's the Grand Starex and Carnival LWB that would be more favorable (given na walang manual mode ang Hiace Super Grandia). Kudos though to the Grand Starex for being a 12 seater (driver + 11 passengers) which goes beyond the 7-8 seater format for vans out in the market.
Pero even so, I still pick the new Previa. That minivan/mpv got my vote since the start of year 2006
So:
Previa > Grand Starex
In terms of class, the Previa still beats Grand Starex ass hands-down. Simply becausing comparing them is unjustifiable (apples-to-oranges).

Ask your dealer if he could include Yokohama or Dunlop tires with the Carnival instead of the stock Korean tires. A number of Tsikoteers have had negative experiences with Korean rubber, ranging from tires going oblong early in their life to having blowouts while on the road.
maybe 1.8 M price for the top-of-the line HVX CRDi model, 1.7 M for the HVX TCI, 1.5 M for the CVX CRDi and 1.4 M for the CVX TCI... that's only for the LWB version... what if for the SWB? maybe mas mura yun...
in my mind, the grand starex is over priced. they just change the look's whcih is normal when coming up with new models but internally, the reconfigured seats does not justify the their price jump. just like on the current model, the sellers are the standards. hardly they can sell the gold series cause it doesn't justify the 200K difference.![]()

1.8M for the HVX is fine, considering its features.
My uncle paid 1.9M for his Grandia. I'm sure he'll buy this too to replace his 2000 Starex TDIC . His Grandias only last 3years before he sells because the starex is the family favorite.
Buying in grey market saves you a lot - initially. That is if nothing major fails. If something does, you're screwed.
dapat honored din ang warranty kahit direct import, a friend bought a 2nd hand f150 from the US before and ford philippines still honored the warranty. yan pa kayang brand new na direct import? unless yang hyundai phils ay hindi pag-aari ng hyundai korea at they are just stealers/dealers?
They are dealers.
If they will honor warranty, everybody will just import since its easy to buy Customs officials.
Investment protection lang yan. If you're a dealer, you'd want to protect your investment and business too. Manufacturers grant this based on conditions set on the dealership contract.
official distributor/dealer or importer/grey market, look for a dealer that best protects your interest as a consumer - look at the long term aspect of owning/buying a car like warranty coverage and claims, parts and support.
Dealers earn from car sales and service, warranty claims are bourne by the manufacturer and not the dealer except maybe for the labor aspect. put it this way, hyundai korea allowed the export of their units to the phils so the local hyundai representatives should honor warranties given by hyundai korea unless they explicitly advised the buyer that they will not honor warranties for export units.
Dealers spend money to buy diagnostic equipment and train personell to service the vehicles. They get the money partly from sales of the vehicles themselves.
Talo sila if they honor the warranty of parallel/gray imports.
It's a different case for indent imports that are also coursed through the dealer. Those get full warranty and dealer support.
Yep because the Carnival is cooked in the same formula as the Chrysler U.S. minivans. Also neither of the two are off-roaders. Clearance similar to a sedan will work well enough. Ground clearance between the two is actually not that far off since ground clearance is officially measured from the lowest point underneath the vehicle.Di ba parang mababa (ng malaki) yung ride height ng Carnival kumpara sa Starex?
The Starex just looks higher because the side sills/rocker panels are higher off the ground.
It's also more difficult to climb into a Starex. You merely step into a Carnival.![]()
