Its out on the market and can be seen on any Ford outlet. According to Top Gear, "it looks macho on the outside, a mysterious alien craft on the center panel of the dash, and a touch of asian taste interior."

I checked it out myself and my impression is... pumangit yata . Its like a pogi boy who just got a bad haircut. The front grille is ugly, yung dash board e two tone na parang sina-una ang design. Yung tail lights looks like an FX replacement tail lights na gawa sa Taiwan.

All that, I guess the modification on the engine, breaks, suspension would make up for it.

No offense to 2007 Escape owner. Just my impression...

It does NOT look attractive, at all. In fact, design-wise, it took a turn for the worse, IMO.

I got to ride in one of the new Escape here and in bumper to bumper traffic conditions at Ayala Ave. all the way to the Fort. Well, it does feel like 2001 Escape when I rode on one in San Francisco for a few days. The center console is a bit neater with a silver accented cover. The shifter has finally been moved mounted to the floor. It does have useless features like those airplane-like stowable meal tables behind the front passenger seats.

Early this year when word spread that Ford would be releasing a make-over Escape, I was hoping they were introducing the 2007 USDM spec Escape here. Unfortunately, Ford lost their senses and went for the Taiwanese-DM Escape.

The 2007 USDM spec Escape is a slightly tweaked version of the original design released back in 2001. It is in this iteration that the Escape is looking its best in years, so far.

Indeed.. After I checked that ugly version of Escape on that Ford outlet, beside it was a new Ford Everest and looks great especially on the interior of the 4x4 model. I just wonder how the ride of the new Everest feels like? Anybody test drove it?

No offense din sa owners ng 2007 Escape. Sa totoo lang nag mukhang bakla ang escape ngayon. Peace tayong lahat.

I don't know about you guys but I like the look of the facelifted Escape... blacked-out crystal headlamps, pseudo-LED taillamps, Forester-like grille, hi-tech looking HU, a more well integrated fog lamp & bumper, nice materials inside, etc.

In comparison, the original Escape's interior looks so agrarian with black plastic everywhere.

Plus, what matters most is what they did to the tranny & suspension.

I've always liked the looks of the Escape and I think the 2007 Escape looks even better. I like them a little "boxy".

Having said that, it's taken them a while to come out with a truly new design.

    RE: Mechanical differences:

    - Some people say the ride is softer, I didn't notice much difference (not like with the New Everest). It's still Mazda-stiff, but it's quite liveable, and tons better than the AUV-type cars out there. Suspension articulation and damping is very good.

    - The new electronic throttle and transmission programming are pretty good. Still a bit of lag at times, but it's more responsive overall than the Escape of old. It's more than quick enough for me.

    - The handling still remains top-notch compared to other CUVs. Wonderful Ford/Mazda steering, wonderful Ford/Mazda response. Fun both on and off-road.

    -------

    RE: Looks?

    - My biggest pet peeve is still there. The damn long door handles. The modern console looks better, but putting more seat space in would have been nice.

    - They didn't change the greenhouse (windows and roof), which is okay, it was perfectly fine. Thank goodness they changed the lights and grille, but they could have done more body work on the sides.

    ------

Sadly, most people didn't give the last Escape a second look, and many won't give the new one a chance, either. Shame, it drives much much better than it looks... and much better than most of its competition (against the RAV4... that's a source of open debate).

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Don't get me wrong, but I myself is an owner of 2006 Escape NBX. I like the dash board as it is. You can even install an LCD screen/DVD/TV combo on its 2DIN stereo slot made by Jensen/Audiovox just like I did. With the new dash of 2007 model you can't do this unless you have the entire center panel custom made. The dash of the 2007 model is like what you see on a van, two tone black combined with a futuristic silver center panel which I find it odd, and ugly.

With regards to the ride, I agree with you totally. Responsive steering, suspension is great, no road and wind noise can be heard from inside, depress the throttle and you hear a bit of engine roar which I like better than just the little hum of the 2007 model.

I test drove the likes of Sportivo and the engine sounds like a rice mill. CRV wind noise is high on high speed. The new Rav4 though is great inside and out, and ride silently as well. It would be nice if the 3rd row seat is available here in PI just like what they have in USA.
