price aside, that's too high for an '03 model...try shooting for 530-550K...a family friend is selling one for 530T, it's a manual tranny though...

mas okay kung 2.3L model na ung kunin mo.. masmalakas ang makina at masmatipid.

meron ibang escape 2.0 that can go as low as P400k.. low-mileage pa. maghanap ka lang marami pa jan.

get the A/T.. may problem sa clutch and 4x4 powertrain ung M/T.

thanks for all your replies. they have been really helpful.
sir kipper, you mentioned that there are lots of escapes (2.3) available. can you point me in the right direction? all i rely on are web advertisements here at this site and some other pinoy buy and sell sites.if you can, that would be really nice.

anyway, and i know this may sound too overbearing, but which among the two you would recommend for me? taking into account everything about these two suv - gas consumption, price and availability of parts, durability, riding comfort (based on earlier posts, escape is the winner), ease of maintenance (granting im from the province).

here's what i think - looks!!!, interior (roomy, attractive - beige dash, ), lower price - the escape would be the winner

but, when it comes to track record of durability and dependability, as well as the availability of parts and resale value - honda would be my choice.

since i have no experience with fords and we in the family have been driving hondas for ten years already, the escape is an unknown quantity - maintenance and durability wise. unlike hondas which have proven to be absolutely reliable.

thanks for any input you can give. :lurk:

Bottomline pa rin dito is kung paano pagKAGAMIT ng 2nd hand unit na mabibili mo. Keenly observe the engine bay, interior and the authenticity of the Mileage.... When your heart jumps pagkakita mo sa unit---testdrive na---pag di pa rin tumitigil sa kakathump after the testdrive, BILI na

Since your from Legaspi City and you've said na walang Casa dyan ang Ford...the question is....

    1. Is there a lot of Ford Vehicles in your area, especially Escape model? Reason for the question is if there is a lot of Escape in there, there is a probability that you can buy some spare parts for your escape at your area if there is some minor problem....you wont go back to Manila everytime you need to replace your oil filters or brake pads or other minor items such as bolts (being in inches instead of mm) or bulbs do you?

    2. What about the Honda CRV? Probably theres a lot of Hondas in your town....so that means simple spare parts will be quite easy to get and some of the local mechanics are already familiar with the car....

    3. How long will you intend to use the car, if you plan to keep your car for a long time, then the re-sale value really doesnt matter.....but if you are planning to use the car for only 2-3 yrs. then re-sale value is quite a factor....

If your answer in one is No.....Then CRV is quite a good choice and probably will be a less headache....maintenance wise

If your answer in two is also a No....then still CRV has an advantage since you've mention on your first post that once in 3-4 months a Honda service caravan visits your place and if your car broke down and you cant use it completely then there's a bigger chance that it will be fix by a certified Honda mechanic and you dont need to bring your car in the nearest Honda dealer or in Manila.....

If you are planning to keep the car for keeps....both choices are quite good but initial cash output favors the Escape being cheaper on the 2nd hand market.

Also your personal preference will play a major factor on your decision making.....I for one will choose the Escape 2.3 over a CRV for the reasons of the amenities on the interior and its gadgets for safety as a standard for their models and I am quite tired already of seeing a CRV quite often....but if you incorporate the other factors such as engine reliability, re-sale, maintenance etc...then it will alter your preference.....

It looks to me that you are inclined to get the Escape.......

well good luck on your hunt....hope my 2cents will help in your decision....

Also a sales agent from a Metro Ford dealer told me that the 2.0L Escape has a "problem" which he failed to elaborate which he said caused the silent phase out of the 2.0L in favor of the 2.3L. So just watch out for this one.

thanks again for all your replies, especially 5speed. that was quite a mouthful of tips. very well thought out too.
after much deliberation, i've decided on the cr-v. primarily my decision is based on the honda cr-v being a 'known' quantity. by that I mean that hondas have a reputation of being bullet proof reliable, although at the expense of pricey parts. the escape 2.0 is very very handsome in my opinion, however, the risks attendant to its purchase are just too high for my taste. i have no experience with fords, especially how its spare parts are priced, plus the factor that it might be difficult for mechanics to service it here in Legazpi.
even if the cr-v is 'matagtag' and a bit of a gas guzzler, in the long run, its a better deal for me. i plan on holding onto it for about 4-5 years, hence, maintenance is a huge factor. moreover, i remember reading a post from a distressed escape owner seeking help as to where he can get a better deal on a new alternator for his ford. he said that the casa was charging him about P50,000.00!!!! . goodness me. that did it for me.
anyway, im planning on changing the springs in the cr-v i intend to purchase later on should the ride be too stiff. at least one of the cons of the cr-v can be remedied easily.
thanks again for all your replies. you saved me from a lifetime (maybe) of regrets. (as im not as mucho dinero as some of the tsikoteers)

An all-new body CRV will be out by next year here in the Philippines (by the end of the year in the US). Hence, the current CRV might have an even greater price depreciation next year which means better deals for you if you can wait that long.

Also about the bumpiness of the CRV, IMO, changing the springs will not cure this bumpiness. We have a '06 CRV 5 passenger and it still is quite bumpy. I think it is even worse on the earlier 8 passenger or 10 passenger variants

hello mga bossing, does anybody have an idea when will ford phils. introduce the all-new escape ? the escape that we have now in the market, when was it first introduced ? i'm thinking that if i buy escape 2.3L now, maybe after only few months a new model will come in, parang sayang.

I'll appreciate if somebody can give me feedback.

    Thanks a lot.

matagal pa.. 1-2 years pa siguro. rav4 pa lang naman ang may bago eh. pero sana before the year ends or next year.

marami pa kasing stocks, pati na mga ranger and everest. bagal ng inventory turn-over nila.. di katulad ng sa toyota.

Thunder has relatively cheaper parts. But still quite expensive.

Few third party replacement parts are available for Escapes.

I have been using Bendix pads for our sedans for several years already and I dont see any problem with it. A pair of pads for the 2 front wheels just cost me P500 a few years ago so I guess it wont differ much lately.

The cost of brake pads of Fords have caught my attention a few years back when a friend of mine changed his Lynx's front pads for a similar amount as what you have indicated.

Casa prices are at least 2x-3x more expensive than what you can buy from the market
